- Leona Catherine Ortlieb, age 91, of Chilton, died on Monday, August 10, 2015 at Atrium Post Acute Care of New Holstein, formerly known as Homestead Care Center.
She was born July 10, 1924 in Johnsburg, daughter of the late Isadore & Magdaline (Karls) Watry. She married Robert Ortlieb on June 11, 1946 at St. Ann Parish in St. Anna; he preceded her in death on June 8, 2000.
Before marriage, Leona worked at Hansen Glove Company in Kiel and later devoted her life to the raising of her children. Once her kids were grown, Leona stepped back into the workforce at Tecumseh Products in New Holstein where she remained for 27 years.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton, formerly St. Mary Parish, and was a previous member of the St. Ann Christian Mothers and the Eagle's Auxiliary in Chilton. In her free time, Leona enjoyed working on crafts, especially her needlework and beautiful crocheted items. Leona's greatest joy was to have the grandchildren stop by and play cards with her and Bob. Leona's kind and gentle spirit was a gift to all who knew her; she will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by those she touched.
Survivors include her children: Joan (Donald) Radder of Newald, WI, Mary (James) Wilkens of Amberg, WI, Kathy (Dan) Huber of Cleveland, WI, Carol Ortlieb and her friend, Brian Becker of Chilton, Ken (Ginny) Ortlieb of Kiel, Shirley (Donny) Bartel of Chilton, Karen (Gerry) Stenz of Chilton; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren with another arriving soon; 1 great-great grandchild; and her siblings: Angie Schuh, Romilda Vogel, Bernadine Halbach, Patricia (Paul) Reider, Lorraine (Peter) Winkel, Joanne (Elsworth) Thome, Jerome (Rose) Watry; and a brother-in-law: James (Kathleen) Halbach. Leona is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Bob; a son: John Ortlieb; a daughter-in-law: Virginia Ortlieb; sisters: Lucille (Edward) Halbach, Delores Halbach; an infant brother: Clarence; brothers-in-law: Hank Schuh, Raymond Vogel, Edmund Halbach, Alfred (Evelyn) Ortlieb; and a sisters-in-law: Jacqueline Watry, Helen Ortlieb.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, August 14, 2015 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton. Burial will be in the St. Ann Catholic Cemetery in St. Anna. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 13, 2015 and on Friday at the church from 10:00 am until 10:45 am. There will be a parish vigil service Thursday evening at the funeral home at the close of the visitation.
