- John James "Jim" Cronin, 68, died at Parkside Care Center, Little Chute, Friday, Oct. 10, 2008. He was adopted by the late Sarah and Michael Cronin in Duluth, Minn. He moved to Menasha at 12. Jim married Kay Coonen in 1964, and she and their three sons, Michael (Michelle), Kevin and Andrew, as well as grandchildren, Kristi (Josh) Hooyman, Charles, Elizabeth and Ella, survive.
He is further survived by his sisters, Dodie (Jim) O'Brien and Pat (Jack) Graegert. He is also survived by Kay's family, Jeanne (Warren) Bristol, Nancy (W. Michael) Slattery, Michael (Ellen) Coonen, Patricia (Edwin) Coonen-Korte, Beth Coonen, Maria (Bill) O'Meara, Dave Klister, Jim (Maureen Quinlan) Coonen, Grace (Dave) Pable, Nora (Paul) Virnig; and 24 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Kay's parents, Jerome and Mary Coonen; brother, Donald; sister-in-law, Vera Klister; and nephew, Mikin Coonen-Korte.
He served in the Naval Reserve and the Air Force after graduation from Menasha High School. He retired in 2000 from Thilmany and enjoyed eight winters in sunny Arizona. His high school tennis career prepared him for a 13-year coaching career at Kimberly High School that he greatly enjoyed. His bowling, basketball, softball, football, golf, umpiring and even card playing always kept him in a game.
Friends may call at Holy Cross Parish (301 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna) on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. until the funeral at 5 p.m. The Rev. Martin Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
