    Rev. Richard Thomas Peeters - Diocese of Green Bay Died February 19, 2001. Fr. Tom Peeters, a native of Little Chute, was bo rn May 22, 1916. He died Monday of this week in St. Vincent Hospital, Gre en Bay. Fr. Tom was born on May 22, 1916 in Little Chute, the son of Richard and A nna (Weyenberg) Peeters. He lived his early life, in spite of the da ys of the Depression. As he grew up he performed, in his early days, qui te distinguished for his performances in his school years. The family of R ichard and Anna Peeters grew during the years. The Peeters Family gr ew as the other nine children were born: Doris, James, Jerry, John (Fr. Am brose), Henry, Peter, and Robert. Son Carl died at the age of eight; Marga ret (Reider) died October 21, 1981. Richard Peeters, father, died Augu st 2, 1977 and mother Anna Marie Peeters died May 28, 1977. With faith in the Resurrection of Jesus, we offer our prayers for Fr. To m. He served as assistant priest at St. Mary Parish, DePere (1942). He w as then appointed to Chaplain Service in the U.S. Navy, assigned to the Ma rines on Guam. Fr. Tom returned to serve as assistant at Holy Rosary Paris h, Kewaunee (1946) and St. Mary Parish, Chilton (1947). Father return ed to the Chaplaincy in the U.S. Navy in August, 1950 and served in Kore a. While in Korea, he received a Letter of Commendation and the Bronze St ar for heroism and bravery under fire. He then served as Chaplain at the S an Diego Naval Station (1952-1953). Father returned to serve as Assista nt at St. Therese Parish, Appleton (1953). Father was appointed Past or of St. Mary Parish, Glenmore, with mission at Stark on January 25, 195 5; St. Mary Parish, Maplewood on June 18, 1959; St. Mark Parish, Two River s, September 8, 1966; St. Wendel Parish, Cleveland, February 19, 197 0. He served as Associate pastor of Annunciation Parish, Green Bay (1978 ). Father also served as Chaplain in the US Naval Reserved, retiring wi th the rank of Captain. He served as Port Chaplain of Green Bay and Direct or of the Seamen's Ministry for the Diocese from 1980-86. Father retired f rom active priestly ministry June 1, 1986. He then served as Diocesan Dire ctor of the Apostleship of the Sea from 1991-1992. Father Tom was a 54-year member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post N o. 258, Little Chute. Reception of the Body will be at 4 p.m. by Msgr. James Vanden Hogen at S t. John Church, Little Chute, on Thursday, February 22, 2001. Visitation w ill continue until 8 p.m., with a Prayer Vigil at 7:30 p.m. Visitation wi ll resume on Friday morning at 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mas s. An American Legion Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday eveni ng. The Funeral Liturgy, expressing our faith and our hope in the promis ed glory of the Lord's Resurrection, will be on Friday, February 23, 20 01 at 11 a.m. at St. John Church, Little Chute. Bishop Robert J. Banks wi ll be the main celebrant and Father Ambrose J. Peeters, O. Praem., Fath er Tom's brother, will preach the homily. All priests are invited to conce lebrate in alb and white stole. Full military Honors will follow the Ma ss by the Jacob Coppus American Legion Post No. 258, Little Chute. Buri al will take place at the St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Members of the Leo Benevolent Society are asked to offer the prescribed Ma sses.
    In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
