    Obituary:
David Zillges, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016, while surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Dave was born on December 3, 1937 in Kimberly, as the oldest son of the late Gordon and Katherine (Stygar) Zillges. Dave graduated from Kimberly High School in 1955. Dave played on the Kimberly High School basketball team and was dominant on the court.
Dave married his High School sweetheart Joan Mary Roth on August 30th, 1958. Dave kept the placeholders from his high school senior farewell at his bedside. Several had handwritten notes from his friends commenting on his beautiful girlfriend, Joan. Dave deeply treasured his relationships with his wife, his son, his daughter, and their families and his friends.
Through the years Dave worked at Kimberly Clark Corp in Kimberly WI until the plant shut down. He then moved to California with his family for a year before moving back to Appleton and working for the rest of his career at Wisconsin Tissue Mills.
Dave loved fishing, hunting and all things related to the outdoors. He mastered the art of taxidermy and went on to create a plethora of lifelike mountings of deer, fish, fowl etc. Dave spent countless hours with his family fishing on Lake Poygan and then later on Lake Winneconne at his father's home. Dave made many trips to Montana hunting and fishing with his brother Gordy, son Andy, grandson Andrew and good friend Mike Poore. Dave made many lifelong friends in Montana and had permission to hunt on thousands of acres of private land.
Dave loved creating pieces of art from various materials gathered in the mountains of Montana in addition to old heirlooms that he collected over the years. Dave would never sell or accept any payments for any of his works of art. Dave said he wanted to share them with people who would enjoy them and their beauty, and that was his reward.
Dave was very active in support of the Special Olympics for many years and loved working with his daughter Caroline on these events. He was very proud of her devotion working with her kids and the Special Olympics. Dave donated his time and wildlife art that he created in support of the Special Olympics fundraisers. Dave also worked to obtain additional donations for the Special Olympics and ran multiple fund raising raffles. The proceeds of the raffles were used to send children to Lion's Camp and Gym Kids at no cost to the family. Dave also loved working with his grandson Alex and granddaughter Autumn on Special Olympic sports and often accompanied them to events.
Dave enjoyed attending granddaughter Mara's volleyball games and swim meets and he especially enjoyed when Mara visited him with his great grandsons. His face beamed when he held his great grandsons Carter and Bentley.
Survivors include his beautiful wife Joan; son Andrew Zillges and friend Lynn DeBruin; daughter Caroline (Zillges) Seidl; grandchildren: Mara (Travis) Nelson (Zillges), Alex Seidl, Andrew Zillges II, Autumn Seidl and Makayla Olson (Zillges); great grandchildren: Carter Nelson and Bentley Nelson; brother Gordy (Lois) Zillges and sister Nancy (Lee) Rutton. Dave was preceded in death by his parents.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Fox Valley Nephrology and all of the great people working there in addition to all of the patients that Dave was friends with during his time spent there.
A memorial will be held from 2:00 - 5:30, September 26, 2016, in the Mark Van Thiel Room in Combined Locks Civic Center at 405 Wallace St, Combined Locks, WI. Pastor Rodger McQuistion of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church will be offering a prayer at about 2:30. There will not be a showing or a funeral service.
If desired, contributions may be made to Dave's memory in support of his memorial.
