Obituary:
Gale M. Bohman, age 89, Hortonville, died on Monday, January 07, 2013, at St. Joseph Residence, New London.
Gale was born on April 21, 1923, in New London, daughter of the late Sidney and Minnie (Heimbruch) Freeman. After graduating from New London High School, she moved to Milwaukee and worked as a nurse's aide. The bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 prompted her to return home where she worked at New London Community Hospital and for Dr. John Monsted. On June 5, 1945, Gale married Francis Bohman, settled in Stephensville and dairy farmed until Francis' death in 1978.
She married Elmer Thiel in April of 1989; he preceded her in death in September of 1997.
For 25 years, Gale was the lunch lady in the Hortonville School cafeteria. At the same time, she held the office of Clerk for the Town of Ellington. She was a longtime member of the Never Idle Homemakers, Legion Auxiliary, New London Medical Center Auxiliary, volunteer at the Dale food pantry, Lionettes, Monday morning coffee club at Patti's Place, and thirteen year member of the St. Patrick's Parish Round-Up committee. Gale was very proud of the hundreds of chairs she refinished, caned and rushed over the years. She enjoyed many car trips with family and never missed an opportunity to spend time with relatives and friends. Gale will be remembered for her positive attitude, her love for life, making friends of strangers anywhere, and her favorite saying, "You get what you give."
Gale is survived by her sons: Peter (Betty), North Monmouth, ME; John (Pat), Glenwood Springs, CO; Paul (Elaine), Appleton, WI; Fred (Brenda), Sussex, WI; daughters, Anne, Hortonville, WI; Rose (David) Yohr, Seymour, WI; daughter-in-law, Shirley Bohman, St. Louis, MO; honorary son, Al (Bev) Meyer; brother, Sidney (Mary) Freeman; brothers-in-law, Edward Bohman and Anthony (Marilyn) Bohman and sisters-in-law, Grace Bohman, Therese Corr and Dorothy Freeman. She is further survived by 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sons, Anthony, Michael, and David, and brothers, Tony, Gordon, Elton, and Neil.
Funeral Mass for Gale will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Stephensville with Fr. John Kastenholz and Sister Pauline Feiner officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. at the Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home (109 W. Main St), Hortonville. Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Gale's family wishes to thank the staff at St. Joseph Residence and Heartland Hospice for their loving care extended to our Mother during her stay.
