Meyer, DeForest A. "Swede"
DeForest Meyer, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital after a brief illness. DeForest was born on August 29, 1919, in Greenville, to the late Albert and Marie (Much) Meyer. He married Valoise Miller on June 21, 1941, at the Methodist Church in New London. DeForest farmed the family homestead for 31 years prior to moving to Appleton. While in Appleton he was a certified welder and later a foreman at Badger Northland. Moving to Plainfield, DeForest and Valoise owned and operated the Pine Grove Restaurant and Motel and a large Christmas Tree farm. The couple returned to Appleton upon his semi-retirement. DeForest enjoyed woodworking, traveling, camping, gardening and bird watching. He was well-known for his ability to fix anything mechanical and his sense of humor as a trickster and storyteller. DeForest loved his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first great-great-grandchild.
Survivors include Valoise, his wife of 68 years; his daughter, Betty Lou Seegers (fiance John), Menasha; her children Dawn (Carl) Baumgarten, and her children, Christopher DeForest (Christina) DeCoster, Amy (Christopher) Gehrke, and Alex Baumgarten; Betty's daughter, Tamara (Bill) Kain, and their children, Brianna, Austin, Adam and Amber Kain; and Betty's son, Travis Seegers; DeForest's son, Jerald (Doreen) Meyer, New London, their children Becky (Josh) Maschinski and their son Chase, and Jesse Meyer (friend Annie) and their children Zoe and Zander. DeForest is further survived by his pet birds, Hootie and Hoppy (his pride and joy).
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009, at ST. MATTHEW EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 129 S. Mason Street, Appleton, with Rev. Paul T. Schuler officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. A memorial has been established in his name.

Much, Nyle H., AppletonAge 80, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at his home. He was bo rn on March 27, 1923 the son of the late John and Irene (Jacquot) Muc h. On August 7, 1948 he married Alice Hooyman at St. Joseph Catholic Chur ch in Appleton. He served his country in the United States Navy during Wor ld War II on a LST 950 in the Pacific Theater. He owned and operated a roo fing and siding company for many years. After retirement he drove school b us for Lamers Bus Company and others. He loved wood and leather working, a nd was known to be able to do just about anything with his hands. Nyle w as also an avid model railroader, and was active in the restoration of t he trolley in Appleton. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic C hurch and his kindhearted, outgoing nature will be missed by many.He is survived by his wife Alice of Appleton, his daughter Gloria (Cleo) M oore of Mesa, Arizona, daughter-in-law Bonnie Much of Appleton, 17 grandch ildren and 10 great grandchildren; his brothers: Ralph (Marge) Much of Fre mont, Willard (Nancy) Much of Dale, Gordon (Esther) Much of South Carolin a, and Robert (Joyce) Much of Elcho, WI; and his sister-in-law Betty Lou M uch of Dale. Larry L. Strey, age 54, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2011, at Appleton Medical Center, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Larry was born on February 7, 1956, in New London, son of Harold and June (Beschta) Strey. Larry attended Hortonville High School, graduating in 1974. On November 17, 1979, he married Nancy Griesbach in Appleton. Larry worked for Curwood in New London for 26 years, where he would become a supervisor. He was also a firefighter and Safety Captain for the Greenville Fire Department for over 30 years. Larry loved being outdoors, hunting, camping, classic cars and attending car shows.
Larry is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Cory (Amanda) Strey; his parents, Harold and June Strey; two sisters, Sheryl (Randy) Asman, children, Marissa and Jeremy, and Karen (Dave) Syring, children, Angela, Ashley, and Amy; one brother, Randy (Karen) Strey, children, Savannah, Falyn, Grace, Summer Gorges, and Logan (Tina) Gorges, with son, James; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon (Alvin) Rathsack, children, Brian (Sally) Rathsack, children, Ella, Harris, and Miles, and Tina (Jeremy) Krueger, son, Mason; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal; his mother- and father-in-law, Floyd and Mary Griesbach; his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Ethel Beschta; step-grandmother, Helen Beschta; and his paternal grandparents, Charles and Linda Strey.
The funeral service for Larry will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at IMMANUEL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, W7265 School Road, Greenville, with Rev. Joel Heckendorf officiating. Friends may call at church from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2011, and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Hortonville, will be private. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at the Martha Siekman Cancer Center, Dr. William Guenther, and the Greenville Fire Department and First Responders for their care, compassion, and support, and also to Rev. Joel Heckendorf and Rev. David Scharf for their spiritual support.

Seegers, Travis "Tad"
Tad Seegers, 32, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Oct. 30, 2009. Tad was born on Aug. 13, 1977, in Appleton, to Betty L. (Meyer) Seegers. He graduated from Appleton East High School. Tad was a faithful employee of Fabco and The Binding Edge.
He enjoyed success as a bowler at the state level, was a talented video game player, enjoyed gardening, solving puzzles and his cats. Tad especially enjoyed time spent with his family. Tad eagerly looked forward to attending the Special Touch Bible Camp each summer at Spencer Lake.
Survivors include his loving mother, Betty L. (Meyer) Seegers (friend, John); his grandmother, Valoise Meyer; his sister, Dawn Baumgarten, and her children, Christopher (Christina) DeCoster, Amy (Christopher) Gehrke and Alex Baumgarten; his sister, Tamara (Bill) Kain, and their children, Brianna, Austin, Adam and Amber Kain; and his uncle, Jerald (Doreen) Meyer, and their children, Becky (Josh) Mascinski and their son, Chase, and Jesse Meyer (friend, Annie) and their children, Zoe and Zander; his cat, Punkin; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, DeForest "Swede" Meyer; and his great-grandmother, Laura Yohr.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at CHRIST THE ROCK COMMUNITY CHURCH, W6254 Highway 10-114, Menasha, with the Rev. John Kieffer and the Rev. Steve Kolasinski officiating. Randall Much, 32, died unexpectedly Friday, January 4, 2011. He was born in Appleton, Wis., at St. Elizabeth's Hospital to Richard and Bonnie (Houk) Much. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard, his grandfather, Nyle, and his aunt, Kathleen.
Randall graduated from Appleton North High School in 1997 and then attended UW-Fox Valley. He started his career working for McCormick Industries. Most recently, Randall worked as a machinist at Fox Valley Tool and Die. Randall was a down-to-earth and strong-hearted man who enjoyed his music, laughter and quality time with his friends. He was a loyal and trustworthy son, brother, uncle and friend.
Survivors include his mom; his grandparents, Philip and Betty Houk and Alice Much; his siblings, Brian (Elizabeth), Travis (Jessica), Adam (Beth), Eric, Kevin, Jacqueline, Corey (girlfriend, Jenny); and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral liturgy will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont St., Appleton, with Fr. Donald Zuleger officiating. A time of visitation from 12 to 12:45 p.m. will be held in the Sacred Heart Room. A private family inurnment service will be held at Riverside Cemetery.
