    Pfc. Herbert J. De Bruin, George Street, is now being processed at Camp Atlanta in North Eastern France, as a member of the first ETO armored division to be ordered to the Pacific. Pfc. De Bruin is a member of Company A, 16th armored Infantry Battalion and served with the 13th armored division. He holds the combat Infantry badge and a bronze service star. His unit known as the Black Cat division captured more than 20,000 German prisoners in the fighting and took an additional 19,000 in Bavaria. In the closing days of the war in Europe the 13th captured Hitler's birthplace city of Braunau, Austria, and liberated 14,000 Allied prisoners of war. He will be given the furlough before the division begins its training for action and the Pacific.

    DeBruin, TonyTony DeBruin, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, D ecember 12, 2005 at the age of 78. Tony was born in Appleton on November 1 2, 1927, son of the late Peter and Dora (Cathagen) DeBruin. On Septemb er 3, 1949, he married the former Marilyn Chadek in Menasha; she preced ed him death on September 20, 2000. Tony worked for various contracto rs in the area for many years as a painter and wallpaper hanger. He enjoy ed woodworking, and made many intricate items to beautify his home. He al so enjoyed feeding the ducks and other small animals that made their hom es in his yard.Tony is survived by three children: Peter (Doris) DeBruin, Peggy (Steve) S chuh, and Pam (Tom) Vils, all of Kaukauna; eight grandchildren: Sara (Jef f) Johnson, Benjamin DeBruin, Rachel DeBruin, Becky King, Bryan Schuh, An dy Vils, Tim Vils, and Jeremy Vils; a great-grandson, Taylor Johnson; thr ee sisters-in-law: Margaret DeBruin of Appleton, Jane Chadek of Georgia, a nd Ellen Jacobson of King; and a brother-in-law, Jim DeGoey of Kaukauna.Tony was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother May DeBruin, h is wife Marilyn, a brother Herb DeBruin, a sister-in-law Delores DeGoey, a nd brothers-in-law Duane Chadek and Bob Jacobson.The funeral liturgy will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 20 05 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with F r. Marty Fox officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Frien ds may call directly at the church on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the ho ur of the service.
