    Dobberstein, Hugo P. On Friday evening, June 15, 2007, his Lord and Savior called Hugo from this life to his long-awaited home in heaven. Following a brief illness, Hugo died at the age of 88. He was born in the town of Hortonia on Oct. 25, 1918, son of the late John and Emma (Handschke) Dobberstein. Hugo was a graduate of the Hortonville High School, and on April 22, 1941, married the former Evelyn Peterson at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Dale. On Dec. 7, 1942, Hugo entered the United States Army, and was present at Utah Beach at the Normandy Invasion. He was injured in that invasion, and needed over a month to recover. He returned to battle, however, and was wounded again in the Battle of the Bulge. Hugo was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, as well as a lifemember of the 101st Airborne Division Association. His commendations include the European-African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with one Silver Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Unit Citation, Glider Badge, Bronze Arrowhead, and World War II Victory Medal. On the 60th anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, Hugo hosted a family trip to Europe which retraced the very steps Hugo took during his military career. The family even crossed the English Channel together and landed safely on a beach in France.
    In 1948, Hugo returned to civilian life, and went to work at Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Kimberly as a laboratory Technician. He retired from Kimberly Clark, then known as Repap, in 1982. He enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with his loving family and many dear friends.His church and his Lord were primary in his life, and Hugo was a longtime active and faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton. It was there that he formerly served as the congregational president, chairman of the board of elders, worked on the committee for lay ministry, the stewardship committee, was a member of the Board of Regents for Fox Valley Lutheran High School and well as its building committee, and also served as a greeter at church.
    Hugo is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn Dobberstein, Appleton; four daughters, Faye (David) Leatherman, Oshkosh; Beth Garcia, Neenah; Jan (Raymond) Ross, Newton; and Dawn (Kevin) Bunnow, Appleton; nine grandchildren, Peter (Michelle) Leatherman, Tim (Nicole) Leatherman, Bradley (Dawn) Garcia, II, Jason Garcia and his fiancee, Heather Yuen, Matthew Ross, John Ross, Mark Ross, Kyle (Allison) Bunnow, and Dana Bunnow and her fiancee, Darrin Dahms; two great-grandchildren, Justin Leatherman and Bradley Garcia, III; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Charles) Cornelius, Willard, Ohio; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
    Hugo was preceded in death by his parents; by Evelyn's parents, Owen and Emma Peterson; brothers, Armand (Concordia) Dobberstein and Leo (Ruby) Dobberstein; by a sister, Zeda (Orville) Loos; as well as by many fallen military comrades.
    The Christian Funeral for Hugo will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 302 N. Morrison Street in Appleton, with the Rev. Kenneth Frey officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Dale Union Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday, from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service.

    Marie D. Westphal, age 84, of Readfield, died on Monday, June 29, 2009, at St. Joseph Residence in New London. She was born on December 28, 1924, in Hortonville, WI, the daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Kringel) Dobberstein. On January 3, 1942, Marie married Walter Westphal at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Larsen. He preceded her in death on February 29, 2008. Marie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield and their Ladies Aid, and formerly served as the organist. She enjoyed playing cards, cross-stitching, polkas and line dancing, and family get-togethers.
    Marie is survived by ten children: Glen Westphal, Neenah; Susan Haase, Neenah; Beverly (Harris) Winkler, Oshkosh; Stephen (Linda) Westphal, New Holstein; Stanley (Gretchen) Westphal, Larsen; Lynn Cole, Appleton; Cindy (Thomas) Gorges, New London; Roland Westphal, Warsaw, IN; Timothy (Shirley) Westphal, Hortonville; Carol Colden, Appleton; 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Adelaide Westphal, Readfield; Marcella Westphal, Fremont; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    Marie was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria, a grandson, Michael Colden, six brothers, Gerhardt, Arthur, George (Speed), Lawrence, Henry and Wally and a sister, Olga.
    Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield. Rev. Robert Diener will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Readfield. Friends may call at the Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont on Monday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for Zion Lutheran Church, Readfield.
    Marie's family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone at St. Joseph Residence for their care and concern during this time.

    Obituary:
    Carl Roesler, 92, passed away at Waupaca Eldercare on Friday, May 6, 2011 . Carl was born on Dec. 18, 1918, in Dale, and was the son of Ed and Ida (Dobberstein) Roesler. On Aug. 26, 1944, Carl married Ruth Running. He was married for 60 years to the love of his life.
    Carl always enjoyed working on the farm, his family and had a great love for animals. He enjoyed singing in the choir and had a beautiful voice and gentle spirit.
    He is survived by two daughters, Judy (Ken) Sasse, Fremont; Joyce (Gerard) Miller, Waupaca; seven grandchildren, Lori (Steve) Jensen, Benjamin (Jen) Sasse, Joshua Sasse, Todd (Barbie) Miller, Terri Miller, Torri (Mark) Pietras, Tyler (Shannon) Miller; and nine great-grandchildren, Dakota, Hunter, Preston, Katie, Olivia, Jack, Seth, Noah and Jacoby.
    Preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Roesler and three sisters, Wilma Hart, Leola Schweppe, Erdine Roesler.
    Funeral services for Carl will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Dale. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. A special thank you to all those who cared for Carl in the last four years.

    Obituary:
    The angels of the Lord carried the soul of Dennis Lee Dobberstein, age 74, to his eternal home in heaven on March 9, 2017.
    Dennis was born December 14, 1942 to Armand and Concordia (Drews) Dobberstein in New London, WI and became a child of God through Holy Baptism on January 10, 1943. He attended Emanuel Lutheran School in New London and was confirmed in the Christian faith on April 14, 1957. Dennis graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton, WI, where he met the love of his life, Cathy (Techlin). After high school, Dennis took agricultural classes at UW-Madison, planning to take over the family farm with his brother Wayne, which they did shortly after he completed the classes.
    Cathy and Dennis were married on October 10, 1964 and the two became one. Children are a gift from God and the Heavenly Father blessed Dennis and Cathy abundantly! Eleven children were born to the happy couple, and the Lord, in his wisdom, took a set of twin boys to heaven shortly after their birth.
    Dennis was devoted to family even in his hobbies and interests. He coached many of his children in basketball or softball, along with countless other youngsters. Dennis loved spending time outdoors, whether it was hunting, gardening, or watching the grandkids' sports. If he had to spend time indoors, a Western movie or book grabbed his attention. Whenever there was a chance to get together with family or friends, a game of cards always broke out, whether it was Countdown or Cribbage.
    Knowing that his sins were forgiven by Jesus, Dennis never feared death or hell, trusting solely in the grace of the Triune God. Praise God for the life of Dennis L. Dobberstein, loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and child of God.
    Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law; three sisters in infancy; his brothers Leroy and Wayne; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eric Melso, Al and Eleanor Techlin, Bob Schmidt, Ethel Moeller, and Charlotte Sikes; and two children in infancy.
    He is survived by Cathy, his loving wife of 52 years; children Tammy (Ken) Nollenberg of Waupaca, WI, Matthew (Christina) Dobberstein of Hudson, WI, John (Stacy) Dobberstein of Greenville, WI, Chadwick (Joanne) Dobberstein of Fountain City, WI, Luke (Lisa) Dobberstein of New London, WI, Mark (Michelle) Dobberstein of Manawa, WI, Rachael (William) Hinz of Fort Atkinson, WI, Jessica (Tim) Payne of Newburg, WI, and Benjamin Dobberstein of New London, WI; siblings, Marjorie Melso, Verlyn (Ena) Dobberstein, and Sharon (Wayne) Koenig; sisters-in-law, Bev (Elmer) Geiger, Joy (Ray) Jochman, Doris Schmidt, and Betty Dobberstein; brother-in-law Joe Moeller; 23 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
    Visitation for Dennis will take place at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Sunday, March 12, from 1-4 P.M. His Christian Funeral Service will be at 11 A.M. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 200 E. Quincy St., New London with visitation at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Rev. William Heiges will officiate.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Emanuel Lutheran Church and School.
