    Obituary:
Thomas P. Oettinger, Schofield, 65, died Friday, March 22, 2013 surrounded by his family.
Tom was born in Kaukauna to Arthur and Cecilia Oettinger. He was a 1965 graduate of Abbott Pennings High School in Green Bay and he earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1970. Tom married Virginia Niesen in 1969 and raised five sons. Tom worked for many years at Zimpro where he contributed to the discovery and issuance of several patents. With his friend Mark Hoffmann, Tom opened an engineering firm, Applied Corrosion Control, in the mid 1980s and he continued to work as a consultant until his retirement. Throughout his life, Tom honed his skills as an expert fisherman and slayer of crappies and bluegills. He was known to many of his friends as "Perch."
Tom was an active and loving father and grandfather. He loved to fish and hunt with his friends on the Prairie River, and he looked forward every year to his fishing trip in Canada, his week of deer season with the Prairie River Gang at the hunting shack, and his famous "unbelievable" fish fry reunion every August. Tom's Catholic faith was an important part of his life, and he volunteered regularly at St. Therese Parish as an acolyte, a bingo caller, and in many other ways.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Cecilia Oettinger, his brother-in-law Ralph "Mick" Walsh (Kaukauna), and his sister-in-law Lonnie Oettinger (Goleta, CA), and his foster brother-in-law, Jerry Gerrits.
He is survived by his sons, Peter (Rebecca) Oettinger, Baraboo; Mark (Mendy) Oettinger, North Platte, NE; Paul (Amy) Oettinger, Sun Prairie; John (Amireh) Oettinger, Madison; and Phillip (Jodi) Oettinger, Rothschild; his grandchildren Sophia and Cecilia; Adrianna, Kadin, and Keegan; Jack; Duncan and Tabitha; and Keta and Keaton; by his siblings, Mary Walsh, Kaukauna; Joseph Oettinger, Goleta, CA; Carol (Don) Geenan, Appleton; James Oettinger, Schofield; Janet (John) DeYoung, Appleton; Dawn (Tom) Killian, Kaukauna; by his sons' mother, Virginia Holbrook, Truth or Consequences, NM; and by his foster siblings, Judy Gerrits, Minneapolis, and Ron (Gail) Welter, Fond du Lac.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild, Wisconsin. Reverend Janusz Kowalski will preside. Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Peterson / Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 6th Street, Wausau, and again on Tuesday, from 9 a.m. until time of services, at the church. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Tom's memory to St. Therese Catholic Church, Rothschild, or to the Friends of Lake Mohawksin.
