Virginia was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a member of the St. Mary's Christian Mothers, and helped with the hot lunch program at St. Mary's Grade School. She was a Girl Scout (with her mother being the first Girl Scout leader in Appleton), and a Girl Scout leader for both of her daughters for over ten years. She was a charter member of St. Bernard Catholic Church Appleton, and an active member of the St. Bernard Mission Group-making quilts for the homeless and needy, and the Women of St. Bernard. She loved playing cards with the St. Bernard card group on Monday afternoons.
She was the founding member of the Crossroad Homemakers group (1949) in the Town of Grand Chute and current member for over 60 years. Virginia was a founding member of the Appleton Gallery of Arts, later the Center for Visual Arts of Appleton, now known as the Trout Museum. She was active with the Thompson Center Line Dancers and was an avid bowler, bowling in a couple's league with her husband for many years and on a woman's league until she was 84 years old. Virginia also took several cooking classes at the Fox Valley Technical School. Virginia loved swimming, bicycling, gardening, bowling, line dancing, folk dancing, sewing, painting, playing piano, playing cards and enjoyed going to lunch with her many friends and relatives. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico with her family, and also to Europe and Egypt.
She and her husband, Norbert, loved the seven acres of wooded property purchased just west of Appleton where they designed and built their home when they moved back to Appleton in 1949 and where they both lived until their time of deaths.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents Theodora (Lohman) and Julius Vogt and Elizabeth (Schmdtkunz) and Andrew Fischer; great grandparents Francesca and John Lohman, Anna and Frank Vogt, Theresa and Martin Fischer and Margaret and Charles Schmidtkunz. She was dedicated to her extensive family [daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt] and was always helping someone. She possessed many creative talents and could use them to the delight of all who knew her. She always offered a caring hand to those in need, always had a gentle smile, and was a true Christian to everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
