    Notes: Private Balthazor was a rifleman with the 3rd Squad, 3rd Platoon, Company C, 1st Battalion, 224th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while in his foxhole defending his position at "Sandbag Castle" located between "Heartbreak Ridge" and the "Punchbowl" in North Korea at 9:40 p.m. on November 3, 1952. An enemy 82mm mortar exploded next to him, killing him instantly. Private Balthazor was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.

    RITES MONDAY FOR BEAR CREEK YOUTH WHO DIED IN ACTION
    New London, Wis (Special) - Funeral services will be held at 9:30 Monday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bear Creek for Pfc. Durrell M. Balthazor, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Balthazor, Bear Creek, who was killed in action in Korea Nov. 2. The Rev. H.A. Littel will be in charge. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
    The remains have been returned to this country and will arrive in Bear Creek Friday night and will be taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Balthazor.
    He was born May 3, 1931, in the Town of Deer Creek. He moved with his parents to Bear Creek at the age of five. He was graduated from the Bear Creek High School in 1950. Before entering service he was employed by the Welcome Shiocton Lumber Company, Bear Creek. He left for Japan last August and shortly after went into action in Korea.
    Survivors include his parents, a sister, Rella, at home and a brother, Francis, Michigan.
