Obituary:
Marion Elizabeth Muellenbach, age 99, of New Holstein, died peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the Homestead Care Center in New Holstein where she resided since March of 2010.
The former Marion Rollmann was born October 31, 1913 in Milwaukee to the late Henry & Mary (Schaefer) Rollmann. She attended St. Mary's Grade School in Chilton.
On November 26, 1941, she married Alfred "Fritz" Muellenbach at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chilton; he preceded her in death on March 11, 1998.
Marion had worked at the former Leverenz Shoe Company in New Holstein until her retirement.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein and the Christian Women's Society.
Marion achieved the finest accomplishment one can reach in life; she was a prime example of a good person. She was a strong lady with a lot of integrity. She lived by the rules of society, followed the teachings of her religion and held onto her strong faith in God. She worked hard, asked for little from life, never complained, and always had a pleasant word for everyone she spoke with. She never raised her voice.
A day did not pass that she did not read the newspaper from front to back - every word. She was always interested in current events, local and world.
Marion lived and loved her home ("the little white house on the NW corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Mason Street) in New Holstein for 57 years. Her door was always open, an offer of food or drink was made before one's foot touched the floor and her arms were outstretched while telling you to "take off your duds". In this beloved home she quilted - many, many, many - quilts and crocheted nearly as many afghans. Dishtowels were embroidered and she tried her hand at hooking rugs (not her favorite pastime). She played countless games of cards with family and friends. TV was for the news, sports, and the late night talk show monologue. She cleaned, sorted, and prepared jewelry that had been donated to be sold at the church rummage sales.
Marion's greatest enjoyment in life was her family. She was especially proud of her three grandchildren for whom she provided chicken soup (for any illness) and kept a stocked cookie jar of homemade cookies. She was thrilled at the age of 93 to have been blessed with a great-granddaughter and another at the age of 96. Having become a mother at the age of 35, she never dreamed of being a great-grandmother.
Her husband won the prize for the best wife. Her son could not have had a better mother. Her daughter-in-law was loved as a daughter. Her grandchildren received an abundance of love and could do no wrong. Her great-granddaughters allowed her to beam with pride each time she could "show them off". All reveled in her love.
Upon leaving Marion's home after a visit one was always told to go "home safe".
January 12, 2013, God wanted her back; Marion went "home safe".
She was on this earth for 99 years - the time was too short.
Survivors include her son, Steven (Jan) Muellenbach of Kiel; her grandsons, Chris (Katie) Muellenbach of Glendale, WI, Eric (Heather) Muellenbach of Chicago, IL; her granddaughter, Susan Hegedus of Grafton, WI; her great-granddaughters, Brynn Elizabeth and Claire Danielle both of Grafton; a sister-in-law, Laura Muellenbach of Chilton; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Fritz; three brothers, Lester, Henry, and Melvin; a sister, Arlene (Rollmann) Diedrich and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as all too many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1724 Madison Street in New Holstein. Rev. Loren Nys SDS will officiate with Parish Director, Joe Zenk, assisting. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home, 2618 Altona Avenue in New Holstein, on Wednesday, January 16th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM and again at the funeral home Thursday morning from 10:00 - 11:00 AM when brief rites will be held.
A Memorial Fund will be established in her name.
