    Lawrence P. Van Zummeren, 100, Appleton, passed away at Cherry Meadows Hospice Center on Wednesday December 25, 2013 in the arms of his family. He was born December 27, 1912 in Combined Locks to the late Henry and Alice (Menard) Van Zummeren. He was baptized December 28, 1912 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Kimberly. Lawrence (known by family and friends as Larry) graduated from Appleton High School in 1932 and was a 1937 graduate of Palmer School of Chiropractic, Davenport, IA. During this period, Larry also played halfback for the semi-pro football team, Appleton Red Devils. He and Leone Diny married at St. Mary Catholic Church, Appleton on November 23, 1944 and spent 64 wonderful years together.
    Larry was employed by the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (now known as the A&P) in Appleton prior to entering the U.S. Army in 1942. He served his country in the Medical Corps from 1942 to 1946, rising to the level of Master Sergeant.
    After WWII, Larry was co-owner of Depot Grocery in Kaukauna (1948-1958). He was the first X-ray technician at Appleton Memorial Hospital (now Appleton Medical Center) when it opened in 1958. He headed the X-ray department for many years, retiring in 1978.After retirement, Larry was an active volunteer in the X-ray department at Kaukauna Community Hospital and in medical records at the Appleton Medical Center for many years.
    Larry was an avid golfer and belonged to the Fox Valley Golf Club for about 40 years. He won the Presidents Cup in 1952 and again in the late 1970's. He shot a hole-in-one in 1977. Larry golfed until the age of 99, playing at Winnegamie Golf Course in recent years. He also loved to play bridge, 3-13, sheepshead, skat, and cribbage. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Kaukauna Elks Club.
    Larry is survived by his two daughters: Kay (Steven) Robbins of San Antonio, TX and Beth (Ken Cone) Van Zummeren of the high seas (on sailboat "Eagle's Wings"); grandchildren: Nicole Robbins of Houston, TX and Thomas Robbins of Austin, TX; daughter-in-law, Cindy Van Zummeren of Appleton; sister-in-law, Elaine Van Zummeren of Menasha; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alice; wife, Leone; son, Mark; brothers and sisters: Rose (Herman) Smaxwell, John (Jane), George (Dorothy), Irving (Florence), Philomena (Clement) Stoffel, Mildred (Harold) Sigl, and Richard; sister-in-law Rosalie Peerenboom; brothers-in law: the Very Rev. Justin E. Diny, O'Praem and Robert Peerenboom.
    Larry loved living at Touchmark, and the family will be forever grateful to the staff and residents for their friendship and kind care. The family is also grateful to Dr. Jack Anderson, Heartland Hospice, Theda Clark Hospital, and Cherry Meadows Hospice for their guidance and support.
    A memorial Mass for Larry will be held at 11 am on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at St. Bernard Parish (1617 West Pine St., Appleton) with Rev. Dennis Ryan officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Appleton. Relatives and friends may visit the family from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass Saturday at the church.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

    Obituary:
    Richard Van Zummeren, 81, Menasha, died Friday, November 30, 2007, due to complications of pneumonia at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center. He was born December 9, 1925, in Appleton, son of Henry and Alice Menard Van Zummeren. He was a 1945 graduate of Appleton West High School and served with his brothers, Lawrence and George, in the U. S. Navy, as a seaman second class from 1943 to 1945. Rich married Elaine Kirschling May 6, 1979. He was a meat cutter and later as meat manager for the Red Owl Stores and Ron and Lloyd's in Neenah for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid golfer, where after retirement he worked at Bridgewood Golf Course in Neenah. Rich enjoyed many years camping at the Silver Spur Campground in Gresham. In April 1992, Rich was stricken with a stroke. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Menasha and the Neenah-Menasha Elks Lodge #676. In 1991, he received the "Elk of the Year" award.
    Rich is survived by his wife, friend and caregiver, Elaine; daughters: Anne (Clarence) Schreiber, Milwaukee; Laura (Brian) Batterman, Hortonville; Lynn (Patrick) Nichols, Menasha; grandchildren: Kevin Dykstra, Ashley and Drew Brunkey, Jordan Nichols, Amanda, Angela and Breyton Batterman; brother, Lawrence (Leone), Appleton; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Betty (Ron) Kluck, Diana (Richard) Rzentkowski, Marion (Fred) Firkus, Deborah (Greg) Van Dreel, Diane Kirschling and Donald "Butch" (Joan) Kirschling.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters: George (Dorothy), John (Jean), Irving (Florence), Rose (Herman) Smaxwell, Philomenia (Clem) Stoffel and Mildred (Harold) Sigl; brother-in-law, John Kirschling.
    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2007, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 324 Nicolet Boulevard, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Radetski officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Heaven Mausoleum, Neenah. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. Monday until the time of the mass. An Elks service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday. Military rite will be performed by members of the William Verhagen American Legion Post #60, Kimberly following the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
    The family wishes to express a special thank you to the caregivers at Theda Clark Medical Center and Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center for their care and compassion for Rich.

    Joseph E. Van Zummeren, age 76, of Waupaca, WI passed away on Friday, January 1, 2016 at his residence. Joe was born in Appleton on December 9, 1939, the son of the late Irv and Florence (Pleier) Van Zummeren. On July 15, 1961, Joe married Patricia Murphy in Appleton. He worked for over 35 years for the Red Owl Grocery Stores. He then worked for Badger Metals, Inc. in sales for 20 years, retiring in 2014. Joe was a US Army veteran and a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Waupaca.

Burial will follow in the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King, Wisconsin. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca and also on Thursday morning from 10 AM until the time of mass at the church.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials greatly appreciated to the St. Mary Magdalene New Building Fund.

    Anita Ann Smith, age 62, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at her home on November 30, 2008. Anita Ann was born on May 27, 1946, in Appleton, to Waunita (Koller) Willems and the late John Willems. She was a 1965 graduate of Stockbridge High School and later earned a degree in Child Care at Fox Valley Technical Institute. Anita Ann married John Smith on June 19, 1976, in New London. Her whole life was dedicated to caring for other people. This was best demonstrated in her more than 22 years of dedicated service at Little Angels Child Care Center.
    Survivors include her husband of 32 years, John; her mother, Wuanita Willems, Stockbridge; her children John R. (Kris) Smith, Combined Locks, and their children, Ryan, Jordan and Alaina; Roseann Smith, Green Bay; and William (Ashley) Smith, Appleton; her siblings, Lester Willems, Robert (Diane) Willems, Mary (Bruce) Pelkey and Mark (Debbie) Willems;. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her brother John, Jr.
    The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2008, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 West Marquette Street, Appleton, with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and directly at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Bear Creek. The family would like to thank all of Anita Ann's friends, family and neighbors for their prayers and kindness. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
