1884 The Cedarburg Weekly News , Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, Ju ly 30, 1884 On the night of the 22nd inst., the Catholic Church in Belgium, known as t he Lake Church, was struck by lightning and entirely consumed by fire. Th is is a very serious loss to the congregation in as much as the church mu st have cost at least $20,000. The Advertiser says the Town is rich and am ply able to rebuild. There are many curious things in and about Belgium, o ne of the richest towns in the county, such for instances as having no Jus tice of the Peace hardly since its organization, nor had any body ever pa id any license for selling liquor or beer, as we have been told, but th at the Town should be liable to rebuild the church is not so apparent to u s, although it might be carried unanimously at a town meeting, and why not ?

See image William Ruppert, a pioneer resident of this county, passed away at his house four and one half miles nort heast of Belgium, on the Sauk Trail Road, on Tuesday afternoon at 4:15. M r. Ruppert had attained the age of eighty three years. Death resulted aft er a long illness. He is survived by five children as follows; Henry of Po rt Washington, Neles of Chicago, IL., Peter of Belgium, Nic. who is residi ng on a farm here, and Mrs. Peter Schimberg of Lake Church. He also leav es to mourn him one brother, Neles who lives in Milwaukee, and seven grand children. His wife, and two daughters. one son and one brother had left f or their heavenly journey before him. The funeral was held on Thursda y. A large number of people attending. May he rest in peace.

See Image Henry Ruppert - The sudden death of Henry Ruppert, veteran fisherman, last Saturday, came as a shock to his many friends. Mr. Ruppert was in his u sual good health Saturday and in the evening was seated in the Mike Lenz b arber shop waiting for a shave when he suffered an attack of heart failu re and sank into unconscionsness and the last slumber. Mr. Ruppert was bo rn near Lake Church and was Sixty two years of age at the time of his demi se. His parents, who proceded him in death, were pioneer settlers of the t own of Belgium. Mr. Ruppert started in the fishing business when fifteen y ears of age, being for many years located at Amsterdam and employ ed by De Los Smith. Almost 20 years ago he came to this city and continu ed his association with Mr. Smith until his death. Deceased leaves two bro thers, Nicholas and Peter of Lake Church and one sister, Mrs. Peter Schimb erg of Dacada. Mr. Ruppert, through his conscientous efforts, built up a l arge patronage for the Smith fisheries. Honesty and straightforwardness ma rked his dealings with fellow men throughout life. He was unmarried and f or several years has made his home at The Mayer Hotel. The funeral servic es were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Horn's undertaking rooms, R ev. Boerner officiating. The remains were laid to rest at Union cemetery.

Hausmann officiating. Mrs. Schimberg was born March 12, 1871 and was r esiding with her daughter Mrs. Henry Lauters from Holy Cross. On Februa ry 13, 1895 she was united in marriage to Peter Schimberg who still resid es at Holy Cross. Lake Church - Nic Ruppert, 73, was found dead in a field on his farm on Sauk Trail Road, town of Belgium at 4 p.m. on Tuesday November 27. He had suffered a heart attack. The body is at Jungers Funeral home in Dacada. Arrangements for the services had not been made at press time. Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Kartheiser, one daughter, Mrs. Mike (Julia) Dahm of Belgium, and one son, Norbert, in the U.S. Army.

Peter Schimberg Funeral services for Peter Schimberg, 57, of 1531 N. 13th St.. who died at his home Saturday,were held at 10 a. m. today at Holy Name Church following brief rites at Gerend's Funeral Home. The Rev. Anthony J. Knackert. pastor, was the celebrant of the requiem high mass. Burial was in St. George Cemetery at Six Corners with the Rev. Raymond Andre, curate,officiating. School children sang the mass with Sister Mary Edmund as organist. See Image Julia Dahm, Father David Wilbert will officia te at the Saturday, November 7th, funeral services for Julia Dahm, 65, w ho died November 3rd at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan. The 10:30 a. m. services will be held at St. Nicholas Church, Dacada. Internment wi ll be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Eernisse Funer al home, Dacada, after 4:00 p.m. Friday. The parish vigil will begin at 7 :30 p.m.. Mrs. Dahm made home at 2046 Jay Road, town of Belgium, where s he and her husband Michael have farmed since their marriage on November 28 th, 1942, at St. Mary's Church, Lake Church. Mrs. Dahm was born October 2 0th, 1922 in the town of Holland, the daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth K artheiser Ruppert. She was a member of the Christian Mothers society of S t. Nicholas Church. Mrs. Dahm is survived by her husband, Michael, a daug hter Monica Haas, Belgium, and eight sons, Clarence, Random Lake; Dougla s, of Elkhart Lake; Roger, West Bend; Richard, James and Gary, all of Belg ium, Donald, of Plymouth and Dennis at home. She is also survived by 28 g randchildren.

Mr. Ruppert was born Aug. 16, 1927 in the town of Belgium. He was the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Kartheiser Ruppert. Services for Mr. Ruppert will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Jungers-Eernisse Funeral Home, Dacada to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lake Church at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be Wednesday after 4 p.m. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Julia (Michael) Dahm of Belgium.
