    lvin Henry Lietz, age 92, died peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin.
    Alvin was born September 9, 1919 in Appleton son of the late August and Albertina Lietz. He served his country with the United States Army during WWII. Alvin was united in marriage to Mary Bodmer and she preceded him in death in 1964. He then married Vera Guyette in 1968 and she also preceded Alvin in death in 2002. He built and owned the Darboy club for several years, and was a long time member of Riverview Ev. Lutheran Church, Appleton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell. Mostly Alvin loved to travel with Vera whenever they could. He was a member of the local American Legion Post 38 and VFW 2778 Post of Appleton.
    Alvin is survived by his three step-daughters, Lorna (Les) Kasten, Appleton; Bonnie (Ed) Felauer, Hortonville; and Sandy (Glenn) Kasten, Menasha; a step-son, Ronald (Nancy) Davidson, Brillion; 14 step-grandchildren, 23 step-great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Alvin was also preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
    The funeral service for Alvin will be held 6 PM Thursday, December 1, 2011at RIVERVIEW EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 136 W. Seymour Street, Appleton, with the Rev. A. Bode officiating. Full military honors will follow the service at the church. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Alvin's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday at the church from 4PM until the hour of service.
    Alvin's family would like to thank the entire staff at Wisconsin Veterans Home at King for their care and compassion and to his step-daughter Lorna, for all her help, love and care over the years.

    Ruth E. Pennings, 88, Appleton, passed away Friday evening Dec. 17, 2010, at Appleton Medical Center. She was born June 5, 1922, the daughter of the late August and Albertena (Brueggeman) Lietz. On Sept. 18, 1948, she was united in marriage to Clarence Pennings. Ruth and Clarence owned and operated Pennings Supper Club at Twelve Corners from 1957 until their retirement in 1979. Ruth enjoyed following the Brewers, Badgers and Packers and looked forward to winters in Florida. Ruth was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Center.
    Survivors include her husband Clarence, Appleton; children, Patricia Riehl, Black Creek; Cindy (Tom) Baer, Lakewood; Mike (Mary) Pennings, Clearwater, Fla.; Steve (Shawn) Pennings, Black Creek; granddaughters, Jodi (Paul) Mathe, Kerri (Steve) Tuma, Sarah Riehl, Jessica (Shane) Wallenfang, Amanda and Marissa Pennings; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alvin Lietz, King.
    She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Wes Riehl; great-granddaughter, Katelyn; five brothers and five sisters.
    Friends may call on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Center, from 4 p.m. until funeral services at 6 p.m. with Pastor Micha Martin officiating. Burial at Bovina Cemetery in Shiocton. Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, is assisting the family with arrangements.
