Obituary:
Edwin Behrens, age 92, of Kaukauna, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at his home. He was born on January 17, 1920 in Elk Grove Township, Cook County, Illinois, the son of the late William and Christina (Busse) Behrens. Edwin was received into the Kingdom of our Lord through Holy Baptism at St. John Lutheran Church, Elk Grove on January 25, 1920 and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Elk Grove on March 25, 1934. He graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1938. On January 17, 1942, Edwin married Bernice H. (Baker) Behrens in Oak Park, Illinois. They lived briefly in the Chicago area until Edwin was inducted into the U.S. Army on November 23, 1942. Edwin was honorably discharged from the Army on February 13, 1946. The couple resided in Palatine, Illinois for 29 years; in Hendersonville, North Carolina from 1985 until their return to Kaukauna in 2002. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaukauna. Edwin retired from Teletype Corporation, Skokie, Illinois. Special interests included; Habitat for Humanity, church activities, and gardening.
Edwin is survived by two sisters: Betty and Lydia; by two sons: Dennis in Lexington, Kentucky and Chris in Kaukauna; three grandchildren: Christina, James and Michelle and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Behrens and brothers: Richard, Albert, Louis, Wilber, and Walter.
The memorial service for Edwin will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 124 W. 10th Street, Kaukauna. Rev. Levi Willms will be officiating. Inurnment will take place at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Kaukauna. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:30 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer's Association are appreciated.
