    Biography:
    Anna Steffen was born to German immigrants in Wisconsin. It is not known to this writer what her maiden name or anything else about her birth family.
    In 1889 she married Martin Steffen, also the son of German immigrants. He was a farmer and they lived, at least as of 1917, on an 80 acre holding in the extreme south of Dale and Hortonia where the two townships come together.
    Her and Martin had at least 11 children together (list of names on husband's memorial). Two preceded her and her husband in death: Margaret ("Maggie") in 1911, and Henry in 1920. Anna died on June 30, 1922 and was buried in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery near these children. Her husband followed her in death in 1926 and is buried near her. Sons Walter and Robert are also buried in this cemetery, as is their grandson Glendon Krueger (son of their daughter Ella/"Alwina"),daughter Ella (latter) and her husband Charles Krueger, and probably others.

    Biography:
    GEORGE DEML, who is the proprietor of a flourishing meat market at No. 753 Richmond street, Appleton, is one of that city's progressive business citizens and self-made men. He was born April 8, 1871, in Center township, Outagamie county, Wisconsin, and is a son of Peter and Catherine Deml, natives of Byrn, Regensberg, Germany, who came to Appleton in 1856 and took up wild land in Outagamie county. Peter Deml engaged in clearing his land for cultivating, and during the early days often carried his flour from Appleton on his back eight miles to his home. At the time of the outbreak of the Civil War, in 1860, he enlisted in the Union army, leaving his wife to take care of the five small children while he was away, and she bravely did her share in giving aid to the adopted country. Mr. and Mrs. Deml are still living, and are faithful members of the Catholic Church, attending St. Joseph's congregation at Appleton. Of their twelve children, seven are still alive. Mr. Deml is a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. George Deml secured his education in the public schools at Center, and at the age of fourteen years left home and for some time worked at $5.00 per month, learning the meat business. He then worked in butcher shops in various parts of the state, and in 1893 came to Appleton and rented from Jacob Walter, who was the proprietor of a market in the Fifth Ward. Ten months later he built the building, a two-story frame structure, at No. 753 Richmond street, where he has since carried on a very successful business. Mr. Deml is a self-made man in every sense of the word, having started out upon his own resources and never depending upon any one else for assistance. He dates his start from the time when he shipped dressed calves to Chicago, and made such a success at this undertaking that he not only accumulated enough money to establish himself in business, but also gained the confidence necessary to embark in such a venture.
    On January 23, 1895, Mr. Deml was united in marriage with Mary Wolf, of Clintonville, daughter of Valentine and Caroline (Rehl) Wolf, the former of whom is now the owner of an elevator at Sparta, Wisconsin. Four children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Deml, namely: Catherine and Gladys, aged fifteen and ten years, respectively, at home; and two sons who died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Deml are members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and he is connected with the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and St. Joseph's Society.

    Walter Mathias Steffen was the second oldest of at least 11 children of Martin and Anna Steffen. Born in Hortonville, Outagamie, Wisconsin on February 4, 1892, he grew up a farm boy surrounded by Steffen relatives, as his Steffen grandparents, and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins from the Steffen side lived nearby. (Not much is known by this writer of his mother's birth family -- who it was, how local they were, etc.) (See his parent's memorials and links there for further information.)

    Walter appears to have remained single his entire life. He lived with various siblings and their families at different points. For example, in 1930 he and his brother Harry were living with his brother Robert and his wife Genevieve and family. In 1940 he was living with his sister Ella (now Krueger) and her husband Charles and their family.

    He lived a simple life. In 1930 he was a machinist in a garage, and in 1940 a factory laborer. He only completed the 8th grade.

    He died at age 55 in 1947 and was buried in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Hortonville, near his parents and various siblings.

    Ella Steffen was born January 17,1893 in Hortonville,Outagamie, Wisconsin, the 3rd of at least 11 children of Martin and Anna Steffen. She grew up on their family farm there.

    She married Charles Theodore Krueger sometime shortly before 1920, as they were living together as married without children in the 1920 Census. Charles was a machinist in an auto garage in 1920. In every Census after that he appears as a farmer and she as a farmer's wife. She finished 3 years of high school (as per 1940 Census) and Charles finished school through the 8th grade.

    Charles and Ella had at least 5 children: (oldest to youngest) Dorothy, Helen, Glendon, Charlotte, and Fred.

    Ella died January 23, 1962 at the age of 69. She was buried in Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery in Hortonville. Her husband died a couple of years later, in 1964, and was buried by her side.

    Ella married Krueger, Charles Frank Aft 1911.     Biography:
    Robert Steffen was the 5th of at least 11 children of Martin and Anna Steffen, born August 5, 1896 in Hortonville, Outagamie, Wisconsin. His Steffen grandparents were John and Appolonia (Stark) Steffen and his great-grandfather was Jakob Steffen. His grandfather and father had many siblings in the area, and indeed the Steffen clan was a pioneering founding family in that area. (See memorials for all of these also in this cemetery's records on findagrave.) Thus Robert, who remained in this area all his life, lived his life surrounded by Steffen relatives.

    He grew up a farm laborer and made his living as a farmer all his life. Sometime after 1920 but before 1930 he married Genevieve. (This writer has no information about her maiden name or birth family.) In 1930 his brothers Walter and Harry were living with he and his wife on his farm in Dale, near Hortonville. By 1940 it was just he and Genevieve on that same farm.

    There are no records that Robert and Genevieve had children; certainly none recorded in the 1930 or 1940 Censuses or that appear in available birth records.

    Robert died June 18, 1975 in New London, Wisconsin in the side of New London that is in Outagamie County. He was buried in Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hortonville, Outagamie, Wisconsin. His wife Genevieve was buried next to him when she died in 1983.

    Vernon Steffen was the 9th of at least 11 children of Martin and Anna Steffen, born August 10, 1903 in Hortonville, Outagamie, Wisconsin on their family farm. He married Agnes (this writer knows little of her birth family or maiden name) some time between 1920 and 1927 or 1928.

    Vernon and Agnes had at least 3 children together, their sons Richard (b. 1928), William (b. 1931), and James(b. 1933). The 1930 and 1940 Censuses, as well as old Appleton City Directory, indicate that he was at various points a car salesman, auto mechanic, and service man for Gibson Company.

    Vernon died March 1, 1980. His wife Agnes followed on July 28, 1988. They are buried together in Abbotsford Cemetery, Abbostsford, Clark County, Wisconsin.

    Biography:
    George Steffen was the 10th of at least 11 children of Martin and Anna Steffen of Hortonville, Outagamie, Wisconsin, born there on December 12, 1905 and growing up on their family farm.
    By the 1930 Census he was an embalmer working for an undertaker and living in Hortonville. By 1940 he had married Beatrice (this writer knows little of her birth family or maiden name), was living in Lena, Oconto County, Wisconsin, and was an undertaker there.
    He and Beatrice appear to have had two children, Martin (b. 1934) and Patricia (b. 1936) by 1940. Whether or not they had any more children later is not clear.
    Beatrice died in 1956. George followed on June 11, 1963. They are both buried together in Saint Charles Cemetery, Lena, Wisconsin.

    Gertrude "Gert" Joos, age 100, of Shawano (formerly of Clintonville) passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Shawano Medical Center.
    The former Gertrude Theresa Kern was born on November 6, 1914 in Mackville (Town of Center, Outagamie County) to George and Agnes (Weiland) Kern. On August 31, 1946 she was united in marriage to Arthur E. Joos in Appleton. The couple lived in Menasha for a few years and in 1950 moved to New London. While in New London they were members of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church. Gert liked to volunteer at MPB School helping out in the library and with the lunch room. In 1977 the couple moved to Tigerton where they became members of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Her husband preceded her in death on August 2, 2006 and the following year she settled in Clintonville and became a member of St. Rose Catholic Church. In August of 2013 she retired to Oakhaven Assisted Living in Shawano and joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Gert's interests included sewing, making craft projects, growing beautiful flowers in her garden, and baking, especially her wonderful cookies and breads.
    Survivors include five children, Marilyn (Paul) Tank of Hortonville, Leonard (Rose) Adams of St. Ignace, MI, Bruce (Diana) Joos of Philips, Charlene Miller of Pulaski, and Larry (Sue) Joos of Caroline. There are 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother, Stanley (friend Shirley Hanson) Kern of Clintonville, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Gert is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Art, a daughter, Betty (Jim) Neitzel-Vogel, and two grandchildren, Leonard Adams Jr. and Dennis Neitzel. She is also preceded by a brother, Vernon Kern, and two sisters, Colette Lamb and Althea Kern.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 24th at 12:00 Noon at St. Rose Catholic Church, 24 Seventh St., Clintonville. Fr. John "Jack" Mullarkey will officiate and burial will be in the spring at Most Precious Blood Cemetery, New London. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of mass at the church.
    The family wishes to thank ThedaCare at Home nurse's Kim and Kelly for their care provided. We also much appreciated the staff at Oakhaven Assisted Living for watching out for mom. Finally, a heartfelt thank-you to Unity Hospice, especially CNA Patti, Social Worker Julie, Chaplain Bill, and RN Leah for the love and support given to mom.

    Althea A. Kern, age 89, of Hortonville, died on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at Brewster Village in Appleton. She was born on June 3, 1923, in Stephensville, daughter of the late George and Agnes (Weiland) Kern. Althea grew up on a farm in the Town of Ellington, Outagamie County. She loved children and babysat for years. She loved embroidering, cross-stitching, polka music, and the Green Bay Packers. Althea worked at Valley Packaging for a number of years.
    She is survived by a brother Stanley Kern, Clintonville; sister Gertrude Joos, Clintonville. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Colette (Vernon) Lamb and a brother Vernon (Toby) Kern.
    A memorial service for Althea will be held at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Friday, December 28, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Mary Vanevenhoven, Pastoral Associate at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Stephensville. A visitation for Althea will be held directly at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
    The family would like to thank the staff at Brewster Village for their care and concern of Althea.

    Bernice F. Schmidt, 84, Appleton, passed away Saturday Sept. 5, 2009, at Heartwood Homes in Appleton due to complications from Alzheimer's. Bernice was born June 12, 1925, in Appleton to the late Nicholas J. and Margaret H. (Weiland) Kern. On Feb. 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Warren Robert "Bob" Schmidt at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. The couple enjoyed 56 years together until his death in 2003. Many years ago, she worked as a waitress at South Side Athletic Club. Bernice was proud of her 45 years of volunteer service at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was also the recipient of the Helen McGrath Humanitarian Award in recognition of her many years and thousands of hours of dedicated service on April 24, 1995. Bernice enjoyed working in her garden and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved walking and traveling with Bob - especially their trips to Hawaii. Bernice and her husband Bob were faithful members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. She is survived by her daughter Marsha (Terry) Dawson, Appleton; two sons, Kurt (Sandi) Schmidt, Appleton, and Brian (Joan) Schmidt, Appleton; seven grandchildren, Gillian Dawson, Brennan Dawson, Ryan (Jen) Schmidt, Kyle Schmidt, Brad Schmidt, Craig (April) Schmidt, and Katie (Todd) Shink; two great grandchildren, Aaron Schmidt and Benjamin Shink; her brother Nick (Marilyn) Kern, Cecil; four sisters, Lorraine Coopman, Menasha, Joyce Frank, Appleton, Rita (Leonard) Wyngaard, Kimberly, and Donna (Cornelius) Van Hout, Kimberly; two sisters in law, Rosemary Beaverson, Waunakee, and Norma Jean Van Ryzin, Venice, Fla. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 am Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St. Appleton, with Father Robert Karuhn officiating.     Rita Vanden Wyngaard, age 82, of Kimberly, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Parkside Care Center with her family at her side. She was born on April 24, 1929 in Appleton, the daughter of the late Nicholas, Sr. and Margaret (Weiland) Kern. On March 31, 1951, Rita married Leonard Vanden Wyngaard at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberly. Rita retired from the Kimberly Area School District after thirty years of employment. She enjoyed her flowers, snow globes, and playing cards. Rita loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending their high school activities and taking them on trips to Great America.
    She is survived by her son: Lee (Linda) Wyngaard; daughter-in-law: Deborah (Douglas Tuschl) Wyngaard; grandchildren: Lisa (Brett) Jondle, Timothy (fianc?     Joyce M. Frank 83, Appleton, passed away Wed. Sept. 3, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
    She was born Feb 4, 1931 in Appleton to the late Nicholas and Margaret (Weiland) Kern. Joyce graduated from Appleton High School in 1949. She worked at Zwicker's Knitting Mill. Joyce met the love of her life, William 'Touhy' Frank at the July 4th Celebration in Pierce Park. They later wed on July 3, 1954 and he preceded her in death in 2008.
    She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also loved to bake, generously sharing what she made with her family. She was an avid Brewer and Packer fan and loved her flower gardens.

    Nicholas Kern, Sr., age 79, of Shawano Lake, formerly of Appleton, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at The Cottages on Golden Pond in Shawano. He was born on November 16, 1934, in Appleton, the son of the late Nicholas J. and Margaret (Weiland) Kern. Nick married Donna Zephirin on September 17, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. They were blessed with four children, Susan (Kevin) Gerarden, Julie (Mike Saunders) Herb, Kathleen (David) Heger and Nicholas E. Kern, Jr.; eleven grandchildren: Paul (Melissa Cichantek) Gerarden, Charles (Meghan Helmle) Gerarden and John Gerarden, Jodi Kay (Ryan) Dorshorst; Natalie (Luke) Kohtala and Broderick Herb; Amy (Michael) Berghuis and Layla Heger; Karri, Nicholas Benjamin, and Tobias Kern; and four great grandchildren: Megan, Teddy, Dylan and Lincoln. Donna passed away on March 9, 2002 after 47 ½ years of marriage. Nick married Marilyn Gunther on October 16, 2004. He welcomed eight step-children, eleven step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren into his family.
    Nick is further survived by his sisters: Lorraine Coopman, Joyce Frank, and Donna (Cornelius) Van Hout; brothers-in-law, Leonard Wyngaard and James (Vicki) Zephirin, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law: Vernon Coopman, Dolores (Harley) Reinholz, JoAnn (Jerome) Jost, Rita Wyngaard, Bernice (Bob) Schmidt, and William Frank; nephews, Dennis Schmidt and Jay Wyngaard; and nieces, Kim Wyngaard and Christine Reinholz.
    Nick attended St. Joseph Elementary School, St. Lawrence Seminary, and graduated from St. Mary High School in Menasha. He was a charter member and trustee at St. Bernadette Parish, and past president of St. Bernadette School Home School Association. Nick retired from Miller Electric after 41 years of employment and was past president at the Miller Electric Credit Union. He was also a vice president at NE Wisconsin World Trade Association.
    The funeral liturgy for Nicholas will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 23, 2014 at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 E. Lourdes Drive, Appleton. Fr. Donald Zuleger will be officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. A visitation will take place on Sunday at Wichmann Funeral Home downtown chapel from 6:00 pm until a prayer service at 8:00 pm, and again at church on Monday at the church from 10:00 am until 10:45 am.     From Her Valley Funeral Home Obituary: Charlotte A. Werner (nee Krueger) age 86, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family at her side, Saturday, August 4, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer. She joins her loving husband, Joseph, in Heaven. Charlotte was born on January 13, 1926 in the Town of Hortonia, at the Steffen Family farm. Her birth was attended by midwife Lyda Oak. She married Joseph J. Werner on July 2, 1949 in Hortonville, WI. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2006, after 56 years of marriage. Charlotte was the last surviving child of Charles and Ella (Steffen) Krueger. Charlotte received a 2 year Teaching Diploma from Outagamie Rural Normal School in 1945. She taught at one-room rural Elm Grove Center School; Medina Graded School and Dale Graded School during 1944 to 1950. Beginning in 1951 she remained at home to devote herself to raising her family, but returned to work as a para-professional in Kindergarten at Little Chute Public School in 1967. She continued working and returned to school at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education on August 3, 1973. Charlotte was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education Beta Theta Chapter at UW-Oshkosh. She continued her teaching career at Little Chute Public School, teaching Kindergarten until she retired in 1988. She was beloved by her students and touched their lives with her constant cheerful and caring manner. On April 22, 1988 Charlotte was recognized by the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for 26 years of dedicated service. She joined the Wisconsin Retired Educators Association (WREA) and the Outagamie County Retired Educators Association (OCREA) in November 1989. Charlotte coordinated the reservations for the OCREA monthly teachers luncheon with the help of her husband, Joseph, from 1991 to 2001. In 2011, Charlotte was nominated to the WREA High Honor Roll for making a difference in so many of her students lives. Charlotte enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and Wheel of Fortune on television and listening to her police scanner. Charlotte liked dancing at weddings and at Rainbow Gardens. She was a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish. Charlotte is survived, and will be sadly missed, by her four loving children: Charlene (Michael) Bernaski, Wauwatosa, WI; Charles (Susan) Werner, Germantown, WI; Jerome Werner, Menomonee Falls, WI; James Werner, Appleton, WI; precious granddaughters, Sara Bernaski, Wauwatosa, WI and Amanda and Abigail Werner, Germantown, WI; special family friend, Mark Spies and many nieces and nephews.     Patricia M. Gregorius, 78, of Appleton, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Oakridge Gardens.
    Pat was born on March 24, 1935 to Fred and Lucille (Viotto) Geenen in Appleton. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1953 and then completed her bachelor's degree from UW Madison in social work. On August 31, 1968 she was united in marriage to Roman Gregorius at St. Joseph Catholic Church, together they spent 45 wonderful years. She retired from Kimberly Clark after 25 years as a secretary. During Pat's retirement she was a volunteer at the gift shop at St. Elizabeth hospital. She enjoyed bowling, gardening and was an avid golfer. Pat was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
    Pat is survived by her husband Roman, her daughter; Lynne (Les) James, a granddaughter, Caitlin James, and other relatives and friends.
    Pat was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Mark.
    The funeral liturgy will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 11:30AM at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 E. Lourdes St. with Fr. Donald Zuleger officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the church.
    A memorial has been established in her name. The family would like to thank the staff at Oakridge Gardens and Affinity Hospice for all they have done.

    Appleton - Margaret Mary Schmalz, age 81 of Appleton, surrounded by her family, passed on to her heavenly home on January 5, 2018 following a brief illness. Marge was born on August 25, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Mike and Margaret (Schmidt) Schreiber. Marge married James (Jim) Schmalz on September 18th, 1956 at Holy Angels, Darboy and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage. She was a devoted member at Sacred Heart Parish, Appleton.
    Marge and Jim have 8 sons, 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Marge enjoyed many activities from coaching softball games, custom sewing, upholstery, and paintings that she created and made for her family. She loved bowling and was on a bowling team until in her late 70's. She enjoyed the cabin up north with an occasional trip to the casino. She was known as "Cookie Grandma" especially to her great grandchildren. Family meant everything to Marge and Jim and they attended many of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities.

    John "Beck" Schreiber, Town of Harrison, age 65, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2010, after a valiant fight against cancer, surrounded by his family. Beck was born at home June 3, 1944, in the Town of Center, to the late Mike and Margaret (Schmidt) Schreiber. On September 27, 1969, he married Cris Stommel at Peace Lutheran in Sussex, WI. John was born to a large farming family, driving tractor by the age of six. During his lifetime, he put in long hours as an employee of Thilmany, Schmalz Landscaping, Holiday Power Sales, Duralam, and Coating Excellence International; also having served in the Army Reserves. John loved spending time at his cottage in northern Wisconsin, giving pontoon boat cruises (with beverage) to everyone who visited. You could find him in his garage at home tinkering with various projects while watching his beloved NASCAR. Beck also enjoyed riding his motorcycle to and from work, a love passed on to his daughters. He had the greatest of fun "hunting and fishing" with various friends, especially Rodger Baum and the JQ boys. But the greatest loves of his life were the wee ones, Gus and Franny.
    He is survived by his wife, Cris, and daughters: Molly, Menomonee Falls; and Jessica (Joseph) Terrien; grandchildren: Gustav and Francine Terrien; brothers and sisters: Michael, Jr.; Margaret (James) Schmalz; Raymond (Lois); Barbara Gillis; Jerome (Dianne); Sylvia (Gary) Breier; Robert (Mary); Ronald (Kathleen); Joseph; Angela (James) Hall; Mary

    Freedom - Mary A. Krueger, 62, of Freedom, passed away Tuesday evening, March 20, 2018 surrounded by her family at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton after losing her courageous battle with cancer and COPD. She was born September 8, 1955, daughter of the late Frederick and Alice (Koeppl) Krueger.
    She is a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom.
    Mary graduated from Hortonville High School in 1973 and attended Fox Valley Technical College earning her nursing degree.
    Mary worked as a nurse at Oneida Health Center and New London Medical Center where she was proud to be of assistance to others.
    Mary was very creative, always working with her hands on sewing and crocheting projects.
    Mary accomplished her goal of taking a trip to Ireland to celebrate her Irish heritage. She was also a life-long Packer fan.
    Mary is survived by her daughter, Andrea (Thomas) Gault; son, Mike (Rachel) Krueger; four grandchildren: Tristan, Samuel, Kylee, Lillian, and one more on the way; five sisters: Sue Krueger, Deb (Rick) Diedrich, Theresa (Kevin) Marquette, Tammy Krueger, and Cindy Krueger; four brothers: Chuck (Kaye) Krueger, Randy Krueger, Tim (Brenda) Krueger, and Tom Krueger. She is further survived by aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
    In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sister-in-law, Sandra Krueger; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
    Friends may call at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 9:00 am until the funeral mass at 12:00 noon with Fr. Walter Stumpf officiating. Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, is assisting the family with arrangements.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mary's memory.

    Mark John Gregorius, 38, Appleton, passed away unexpectedly from a brain aneurism on Friday afternoon, April 17, 2009, at Theda Clark Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 13, 1970, in Appleton, the son of Roman and Patricia (Geenen) Gregorius. He was a 1988 graduate of Appleton East High School, after which Mark went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Mark was currently employed by Wal-Mart where he had worked since the store opened better than six years ago. He spent much time at the Appleton Public Library, he loved reading, and playing the drums.
    He will be sadly missed by his parents: Roman and Patricia, Appleton; his sister: Lynne (Les) James, Appleton; his niece: Caitlin James; his nephew: Tyler James, Shiocton. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Andrew and Rose Gregorius; Fred and Lucille Geenen.
    Funeral services for Mark will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Wichmann Funeral Home (537 North Superior Street) with Father Don Zuleger officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:30 until the time of service. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton.

    On September 27, 2016, Owen James Verhagen entered into this world at 2:45 PM and went to meet the Lord 31 minutes later at, 3:16 PM. We take great joy from the time we had with him, and we have peace in knowing he watches over us every day.
    Owen is survived by his parents Eric and Amanda; sister Karlee Verhagen; grandparents: Tim and Carla Mueller and Greg and Sue Verhagen; Great Grandparents: Beatrice Mueller, LeRoy and Judith Van Dera, and Carol Just. Aunts/Uncles: Travis Mueller and Nichole Brady and their son Brady Mueller, Chelsea Verhagen, and Jeremy Verhagen
