Obituary:
Fran L. Verhagen, nee Verkuilen, 71, of Little Chute, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 27, 2015, at the St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. She was born on January 13, 1944, daughter of the late John and Anna (Van Schyndel) Verkuilen. Fran married Walter L. Verhagen, Jr. in 1969, and he preceded her in death on November 8, 1976.
Fran was a long time member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute, graduating from St. John High School in 1963. She was also a very active member in the St. Elizabeth Society. Fran worked as an executive secretary for lawyers Van Hoof and Van Hoof and for Riverside Paper until her retirement. She was an avid Packers and Badgers fan, but most importantly, a devoted mother and grandmother.
Fran is survived by her two daughters: Julie (Todd) Baumann and their sons Alex and Max, and Cathi (Kirk) Leyden and their children Ava and Ian; siblings: Anna Marie (Merlin) Hein, John (Carol) Verkuilen, Robert (Gloria) Verkuilen, Dolores (Bruce) Schulz, Patricia (Harry) Schulz, George (Diane) Verkuilen, Joe (Marilyn) Verkuilen, Beverly Bangart, Jim (Sharon) Verkuilen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Marcellus (Mary) Van Gompel, James (Myra) Verhagen, Eugene (Sandy) Verhagen, Douglas Verhagen, Grace (Carl) Fiestedt; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents; her father and mother-in-law, Walter J. and Del (Lom) Verhagen; sister-in-law, June Van Gompel; brother-in-law, Allen Bangart.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine Street, Little Chute, with Msgr. Jim Vanden Hogen officiating. Visitation will be on Friday evening, January 1, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 101 Canal Street, Little Chute, and again on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Fran's name. For online condolences, please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.
