    Obituary:
    John Fransway, Sr. 302 N. Durkee St. died Saturday morning after a short ilness. Survivors are his widow Jane Thompson Fransway; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Rockstroh and Mrs. Irene Schmeiding; two sons John, Jr. and Earl A. off of Appleton. He was a member of Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and the Holy Name society of St. Therese church and was a resident of Appleton for the past 60 years. The body was taken from the Schommer Funeral home to the residence Saturday afternoon. The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning from St. Therese church with burial in St. Mary's cemetery

Marvel is survived by her son, John (Betty) Conrad, Appleton; five grandchildren: David (Lynn) Conrad, Kaukauna; Sharon (Mike) Wildenberg, Appleton; Patty (Peter) Graverson, Appleton; Sandy (Chuck) Passehl, Appleton; and Tom Conrad, Appleton; eight great-grandchildren: Scott and Laurie Wildenberg, Tonya Conrad, Jenny and Ben Hietpas, Paige and Melissa Conrad, and Chad Griener; a sister, Alice Holtz, Appleton; and a brother, Murrel (Evie) Miller, West Bend.     Fransway, Peter E. In His grace and infinite wisdom, God called Peter Fransway, beloved husband and father, to his heavenly home Sunday morning, August 20, 2017 at the age of 84. It was a blessed end to his earthly life, and a glorious beginning to his eternal, perfect life. Pete was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on June 25, 1933, son of the late Earle and Myrtle (Van Wyk) Fransway. From 1953 until 1957, Pete served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He later attended Fox Valley Technical Institute and received a degree in accounting. For much of his working life, he partnered with his son Rob in the building and management of rental properties. On May 1, 1954, Pete married Lois Sturm in Greenville, South Carolina; their marriage of sixty-three years was blessed with three children. Pete will be remembered as an avid reader who loved fishing and life on the lake. He found great joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even though his health declined over the last few years, Pete never lost his great sense of humor. His humble generosity and kindness touched so many lives. Pete had been a longtime and faithful member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Neenah.
    Pete is survived by his wife: Lois Fransway of Appleton; three children: Joline (John) Kappell of Appleton; Kathleen (Pastor Stephen) Schlicht of Black Creek; and Rob (Marilyn) Fransway of Scottsdale, Arizona; eight grandchildren: Nicholas Kappell, Calie (Neil) Montour, Sarah (Matthew Schmidt) Schlicht, Samuel Schlicht, Lydia (Elliot) Johnson, Pastor Peter (Rachel) Schlicht, Paris Fransway, and Gianna Fransway; two great-grandchildren: Isabel Schmidt and Solomon Schlicht; and Baby Boy Johnson, due to arrive in December. Pete is also survived by several members of Lois' family: John (Kathy) Sturm of Menasha, Mary Sturm of Neenah, Francis (Carol) Sturm of Appleton, Bill (Clare) Sturm of Neenah, and Sue (Richard) Miller of Madison, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jim (June) Fransway and Tom (Carol) Fransway, a brother-in-law Glenn Sturm, and Lois' parents John and Catherine Sturm.
    Due to renovations being underway at St. Gabriel church, the funeral liturgy for Pete will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. The 448th Bombardment Group was an Eighth Air Force B-24 Liberator unit stationed in England. Assigned to RAF Seething in late 1943, the group flew its last combat mission on the 25th of April 1945, attacking a marshaling yard at Salzburg, Austria. The 448th flew B-24 Liberators as part of the Eighth Air Force's strategic bombing campaign. The group entered combat on the 22nd December 1943 and until April 1945 served primarily as strategic bombardment organization, hitting such targets as aircraft factories in Gotha, ball-bearing plants in Berlin, an airfield in Hanau, U-boat facilities at Kiel, a chemical plant at Ludwigshafen, synthetic oil refineries at Politz, aircraft engine plants as Rostock, marshalling yards at Cologne, and a Buzz-bomb assembly plant at Fallersleben. The group took part in the intensive campaign of heavy bombers against the German aircraft industry during Big Week, 20-25 February 1944.
    In addition to strategic operations, flew interdictory and support missions. Bombed V-weapon sites, airfields, and transportation facilities prior to the Normandy Invasion in June 1944 and on D-day attacked coastal defenses and choke points. Struck enemy positions to assist the Allied offensive at Caen and the breakthrough at Saint-Lo in July. Dropped supplies to airborne troops near Nijmegen during t5he airborne attack on the Netherlands in September.     John E. Conrad Jr, 91, of Appleton, passed away Dec. 31, 2016. He was born on July 31st, 1925, to John Sr. and Marvel Conrad from Freedom, WI. On May 13th, 1947, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Brown.
    He grew up in Freedom, WI where he enjoyed boxing at the high school and for a brief time in the air force. John was a B-24 gunner during WW2 in the US Air Force.     After the war he had a couple of short lived jobs but eventually settled down and became a machinist for Giddings & Lewis Co. in Kaukauna retiring early due to a shutdown of the Kaukauna business location. John and Betty moved to Appleton where they joined St. Thomas More Catholic parish. He enjoyed working with anything mechanical and tending to his yard.
    He is survived by his son, Dave (Lynn) Conrad, daughter, Patricia (Peter) Graverson, son, Thomas (Mary Britten) Conrad, daughter, Sandy (Fritz) Gast and his loving grandchildren, Tonya Conrad, Melissa (Mike) Potter, Paige (Brian) Vandenbloomer, Laurie (Nate) Abbott, Scott (Christy) Wildenberg, Jennifer Hietpas, Ben Hietpas, Chad (Jennifer)Greiner. Great grand children include: Angela Potter, Zachary Potter, Savannah Potter, RJ Greiner, Robby Greiner, Olyvia Hietpas, Ellie Hietpas, Nora Hietpas, Joe Abbott, Ben Abbott, Ava Abbott, Jackson Wildenberg, and Cooper Wildenberg.
    John was preceded in death by his father John Sr., his mother Marvel and his loving wife Betty (Elizabeth) and daughter Sharon Wildenberg.
    The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017, at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, 1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton, with the Rev. James Lucas officiating. John's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Following the Mass full military honors will be held. Interment will be held in High Memorial Park, Appleton.

    Thomas R. Schmidt, age 82, of Cecil passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at his daughter's home in Appleton. He was born on February 1, 1932 in Appleton, son of the late Joseph A. and Pearl M. (Miller) Schmidt. After graduating from high school, Tom proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his time in the service he came home to meet, and marry the love of his life, Mary Ann C. Rutten on September 3, 1955. Their marriage was blessed with six children, 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and four more on the way soon. Tom was a long-time member of St. Thomas More Parish, and a 50 year member of the American Legion Post 38 in Appleton.
    After retiring from Appleton Papers in 1988, Tom and Mary took up a life of RVing. They travelled the United States, spending winters in Arizona, and eventually buying a house in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Summers were spent at a property that the family lovingly called "Mill Creek" and eventually purchased an old farm in Cecil, with plenty of space for their beloved family to gather, play, and grow. Tom enjoyed HAM radio, working in his yard, collecting antiques, shooting handguns, and telling stories. He had a deep affinity for animals which was obvious to anybody that knew him. Most recently, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his beautiful great granddaughters.
    He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Ann; his children: Carleen Schmidt, Appleton, Linda (Dave) Arend, New Berlin, Diana (Thomas) Tapelt, Annandale, MN, Bruce Schmidt, Appleton, Bonnie (Len) Jastroch, Fall Brook, CA; grandchildren: Jessica (sp. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. He will be entombed next to his dear son, Brian at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton.

    James L. Schmidt, age 34, of Kaukauna passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017. He was born on February 11, 1983 in Appleton, Wisconsin son of Katherine M. (Sieger) and the late Brian J. Schmidt. James attended New London High School. He was employed by Astro Hydraulics, Inc., a company that treated him very well, and James loved working there. James loved riding his motorcycle, the Packers, the Brewers, camping, fishing, and above all else, James cherished time spent with his large family and his even larger group of close friends. He was a confident, optimistic man, with a heart of gold. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
    James is survived by his mother, Katherine Howard, Kaukauna; his brothers: Thomas (Brenda) Schmidt, Chilton; Christopher (Jenna Kerswill) Schmidt, Kaukauna; sisters: Heather (Kevin) Cook, Eden; Christina (Alex) Whitney, Appleton; Amber (fiancé Luke Hammons) Schmidt, New London; nieces: Lily, Kaydence, Hailie, and Ryleigh; nephews: Logan, Jayden, Nathan, and Godson Nolan, who loved his uncle James and followed him around everywhere; his grandmothers: Mary Ann Schmidt, Cecil; Karen Sieger, Pembine, who loved him more than life itself; his best friend forever, Erin Kinney; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Brian J. Schmidt; and grandfathers: Leonard Sieger and Thomas Schmidt.
    A Celebration of James' life will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
