    Obituary:
    John A. Bauhs, age 92, passed peacefully into his Lord's waiting arms in the early morning hours of March 10, 2010. John was born in Appleton on August 25, 1917, son of the late John and Hertha (Kositzke) Bauhs. He graduated from St. Paul Ev. Lutheran School as well as the Appleton High School and went on to study both bookkeeping and electrician work. In his younger years, he worked at Zwicker Knitting Mill in Appleton and in 1942, he entered the United States Army and served faithfully in the European Theater until November of 1945. On May 17 of 1947, he married Hildegard Krueger at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton where he was a member of the church council. For over thirty years, John was employed by the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1979 as the Dispatch Supervisor. He was a member of the Johnston Blessman American Legion Post #38 and VFW Harvey Pierre Post #2778, the Appleton Postal Retirees, the American Postal Workers' Union (APWU), and was also an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where he once had served as their treasurer.
    He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years: Hildegard Bauhs, Appleton; three children: Joan Rudolph, Appleton; John (Michele Burlew) Bauhs, St. Paul, Minnesota; and Thomas (Teri) Bauhs, Danville, California; two grandsons: Scott (Audrey) Bauhs, Mammoth Lakes, California; and Mark Bauhs, Danville, California; a sister, Leola Eastman, Appleton; a brother, Kenneth (Viola) Bauhs, Albuquerque, New Mexico; two stepbrothers: Elton (Elinor) Jandre, Appleton; the Rev. Cyril (Audrey) Jandrey, Stoughton; a stepsister, Verona Wieseler, Appleton; a sister-in-law, Adelheid Bauhs, Waverly, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
    John was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Margaret (George) Schuh; two brothers: Leonard Bauhs and Norman (Bernadine) Bauhs; a stepbrother, Leroy (Ruth) Jandrey; a stepsister, Arlene (Alfred) Starck; and a brother-in-law, Warren Wieseler.
    The funeral service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2330 E. Calumet Street in Appleton, with Rev. Gary Nokleberg and Rev. Roger McQuistion officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. A memorial fund is being established in John's name.
    The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the many caregivers at Brewster Village in Appleton. You cared for John as though he was your very own, and for that our family will always be grateful. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
