Obituary:
Esther L. Gritt, age 85, of Black Creek, passed away early Friday morning, December 1, 2006, at an Appleton hospital. She was born October 8, 1921, in Pittsfield, the daughter of the late Gustave and Mary (Moes) Ruechel. She was united in marriage to Edward W. Gritt Sr., on May 30, 1941, in Green Bay. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2000.
Esther was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Black Creek, a member and past president of the Christian Mother's Society, member of Mother of Twins Club, Joe's Lodge, and was an avid crafter. She loved to sew, ceramics, enjoyed reading, playing cards and time spent with her family. Esther was a past Brown County "Alice in Dairyland."
She is survived by her children: Keith (Jan) Gritt, Horicon; Karen (Bert) Gietman, Combined Locks; Eddie (Mary) Gritt, Black Creek; Mary (Jerry) Lawrence, Oconomowoc; Carolyn (Bruce) Fassbender, Appleton; June Steffens, Butte des Morts; Judy (Fran) Ver Voort, Seymour; Christine Vander Zanden, Black Creek; Becky (Gary) Schaumberg, Seymour; Steve Gritt, Land O' Lakes; Mike (Jeanne) Gritt, Black Creek; Kim (Bruce) Johnson, Black Creek; and Jennifer (Bob) Wagner, Black Creek; also, survived by 47 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one brother, Gailand (Marion) Ruechel, Oconto; three sisters-in-law: Ruby Ruechel, Anston; Jean Gritt, Seymour; and Vera Gritt, Edgerton; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five grandchildren: Angela Vander Zanden, James Gritt, Joe Fassbender, Kyle Vanhandel, and Bev VerVoort; one sister, Myra O'Connell; and one brother, Gordon Ruechel.
Friends may call at the Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, 358 S. Main St., Seymour, on Sunday, December 3, 2006, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, December 4, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 301 E. Beech St., Black Creek, from 9:30 a.m., until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with Father Theodore J. Hendricks celebrating. The burial will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
