A most interesting and difficult operation was performed by Dr. MAGER of this place with the assistance of Dr. SMITH of Port Washington, on a little girl about four years old, daughter of Peter FELLEN of St. John, Calumet Co. by taking from the bladder a stone two inches long and over two inches in circumference, weighing 1 1/8 ounces. We saw the stone and it looks and feels exactly like a limestone. The child is doing well and will recover; the mother is of course in attendance here with her child. The parents have been consulting physicians for last 16 months without the latter ís discovering the true cause of the ailment. Last week the same gentlemen removed from the arm of Mr. LORENZ near Sheboygan Falls, a large portion of diseased bone with such success as to save the amputation of the arm .

Obituary:
See Image Miss Elisabeth and Anna Feller receiv ed a telegram Monday night of the sudden death of their father Peter Felle r, aged 62, a resident of this city for many years. The death occurr ed at Holcombe Monday evening at 8 PM. The dispatch not stating the caus e. Mr & Mrs Feller were married in Milwaukee in 1876 making their ho me at St. John's until 1889 when they came to Kaukauna where they resid ed until 4 years ago. Surviving are wife Mary and 6 children; Mrs. L. Smi th of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mrs W.V. Leppla of Green Bay, Elisabeth a nd Anna Feller of Kaukauna, Joseph and Ursula Feller of Holcombe. He is al so survived by a brother John Feller of Kaukauna. The Misses Feller and th eir Uncle John left for Holcombe Tuesday to attend the funeral which was h eld Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church. The remains arrived here Thursday a nd a service held at Holy Cross with internment in the family plot at Ho ly Cross Cemetery.

1875 The "Rhein" was built by Caird & Co, Greenock in 1868 for Norddeutscher Lloyd [North German Lloyd]. Her details were - 2,901 gross tons, length 332 ft x beam 40ft, clipper stem, one funnel, two masts, iron construction, single screw and a speed of 13 knots. There was accommodation for 70-1st, 100-2nd and 600-3rd class passengers. Launched in August 1868, she sailed on her maiden voyage from Bremen to Southampton and New York on 3/10/1868. In 1878 her engines were compounded by the builders and on 16/10/1889 she left Bremen on her last voyage to Baltimore and New York. On 18/09/1890 she commenced her last Bremen - Baltimore voyage and the following year was sold to a British company. She was scrapped in 1893. See image John Feller Dead - Has been reside nt of Kaukauna for past thirty years.John Feller, a resident of this city the past thirty years and a well kno wn millwright died at 5 o'clock Friday afternoon November 18, at his ho me on Desnoyer street, after an illness in bed of a little over two month s. He was born in Prussia, Germany and came to Kaukauna about the time t he round-house was built in Ledyard where he has resided ever since. He w as married 22 years ago to Theresa Romenesko, who with seven children surv ive. They are Henry, Mary, Anna, Margaret, Theodore, Della and Harold Fell er. One child, John, is dead. Mr. Feller was a member of the Catholic Knig hts of Wisconsin and of St. Josephs Society and was also insured by the F ox River Health and Accident company. Among those who attended the obsequi es were Peter Feller of Newberg, Mr. & Mrs Wallace Leppla and Miss Elisabe th Feller of Green Bay; Mr. & Mrs Walter Romenesko, Henry Romenesko, M r. & Mrs Theodore Penning, Louis Verhagen, Miss Anna Green and Joseph Gre en of Freedom; Mr & Mrs Matthew Van Hoof and Mrs Albt. Hartjes of Little C hute. The funeral ceremonies which were largely attended by the relativ es and friends of the deceased were held at Holy Cross church Monday morni ng at 8:30 o'clock by the Rev P.J. Lochman in charge. the pallbearers, sel ected from the Catholic Knights and St, Josephs society equally, were Theo dore Schmalz, Nic. Koburn, John McMorow, Wenzel Brouchek, Barney Schlude a nd Charles Zeuhl.
Funeral of John Feller John Feller died Friday afternoon at his home on the north side, of heart disease after a severe illness of several weeks though he has been unwe ll for over a year. Deceased was born in Prussia in 1856 came to the Unit ed States in 1875 with his father who settled in St. John's Calumet Count y. In 1888 he was married to Miss Theresa Romeneska at Freedom, since whi ch he has been a resident here. He was a millwright at Patten's mill for s ixteen years. Surviving are his wife and seven children Henry, Theodore, H arold, Mary, Anna, Della and Margaret. Deceased was a member of the St. Jo seph's Society and the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin both of which attend ed the funeral in a body. The funeral was held Monday morning from Holy Cr oss church. The following acted as pallbearers: Theodore Schmaltz, Nic Kub orn, Barney Schlude, W. Brauchek, Charles Veul and John Mitchka. Internme nt was made in Holy Cross cemetery. Relatives and friends from Green Ba y, Freedom, Little Chute, Kingsville, texas and other places attended t he funeral.

A most interesting and difficult operation was performed by Dr. MAGER of t his place with the assistance of Dr. SMITH of Port Washington, on a litt le girl about four years old, daughter of Peter FELLEN of St. John, Calum et Co. by taking from the bladder a stone two inches long and over two inc hes in circumference, weighing 1 1/8 ounces. We saw the stone and it loo ks and feels exactly like a limestone. The child is doing well and will re cover; the mother is of course in attendance here with her child. The pare nts have been consulting physicians for last 16 months without the latter ís discovering the true cause of the ailment. Last week the same gentlem en removed from the arm of Mr. LORENZ near Sheboygan Falls, a large porti on of diseased bone with such success as to save the amputation of the arm .

She was born November 21st, 18 82 in St. John's, Wisconsin, and her husband, Walter, died February 5th, 1 963. Mrs. Leppla was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and St. J oseph Church. Joseph P. Feller, funeral services for Jose ph P. Feller were held at a solemn requiem high mass Monday morning at 9: 00 at St. Patrick's church. The very Reverend Father Thomas A. Kennedy w as celebrant of the mass; Reverend Father Joseph E. Guertin, deacon; and R everend Father Norbert Freiburger, subdeacon. See Image Ursula M. Schowalter, nee Feller, of 224 Lincoln Drive South, West Bend, d ied Friday at Cedar Lake Home at the age of 84. She was born April 5, 189 8, in Kaukauna, and then lived in Newburg until moving to Chicago, where s he attended Mosher Business College, after which she was employed at the C ontinental Bank in Chicago, prior to coming to West Bend in 1917. She w as employed by First National Bank for many years, and was also a volunte er nurse's aide at St. Joseph's Community Hospital during World War II, a nd was very active in the early days of the Girl scouts of West Bend. S he married Col. Herbert P. Schowalter at Holy Angels Church on October 1 8, 1921. He died November 3, 1972. Survivors include three children, Don na Jean (Harold) Roll, of El Cajon, Calif., Jo Ann (Clarence) Loebel, of N orthbrook, Ill., and Mary (Milton) Rusch of Racine; 10 grandchildren; oth er relatives and friends. One daughter died in infancy. She was a chart er member of the West Bend Country Club, a charter member of the West Be nd Women's Club, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of the Lt. R ay Dickop Post 36, the VFW Auxiliary Fred A. Schaefer Post 1396, the Chrit ian Women's Fraternity of St. Frances Cabrini Church and the Apostola te of Suffering. Funeral services will be held Monday at 6;30 pm. at Schmi tt Funeral home. Burial is in Washington County Memorial Park.

Geography; Galicia or Galizien was formerly a crown land of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Its former territories are now shared between southern Poland and western Ukraine. 1903 Kaukauna Times dated 7/03/1903; The ten year old son of Mr & Mrs Jo hn Feller of the 2nd ward was injured last week by having a spear run thro ugh his foot near the toes. No attention was paid to it until his muscl es began to grow rigid, when Dr. C. D. Boyd was called and found the lad s uffering from lockjaw and in a very dangerous condition. Prompt attenti on taken by the Dr. has overcome the danger and it is thought the boy wi ll recover.

She was born Janua ry 2, 1891, in Freedom, the daughter of the late John and Anna (wrong) (Ro menesko Feller. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, the La dies of Holy Cross and the Lady Foresters. She is survived by five sons a nd six daughters-in-law; Orville and Bea Yingling, Langlade; Donald and Ma ry Yingling, Lakewood; Norbert and Della Yingling, Omaha, Nebraska; Franc is and Delores Yingling, Appleton; James and JoAnn Yingling, Kaukauna; Hel en Dettl and her husband John, Kaukauna; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorot hy and Eugene Sage, Neenah; 19 grandchildren and 23 great granchildren. S he was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1969, and a son Jereom e, in 1967. The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cro ss Church, Kaukauna with Fr. Mrs. F. Goetzman service to be he ld Monday Morning - Mrs. Frank Goetzman, age 64, died Thursday eveni ng at 830 at the Kaukauna Community Hospital following a long illness. S he was born in Kaukauna on September 10th, 1892 and has lived here all h er life. She was a member of St. Anne's Court, Catholic Order of Forester s, and the Altar Society of the Holy Cross Catholic church. The funeral s ervice will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Holy Cross Church with buri al in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Fargo funeral home aft er 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening. Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Saturd ay and Sunday. She is survived by her husband, Frank, one daughter, Mr s. Lester P. Coonen, of Detroit Michigan, one son, Robert Goetzman, of Kau kauna, three brothers, Harry Feller, of Milwaukee, Theodore, of Two River s, and Harold W. Biography:
A short biography from her son, Robert Goetzman, written in 2001.Ann Feller went to work in the finishing department of the Poter Pap er Co where her brother-in-la, Frank Yingling was foreman. Ann's siste rs at one time or another also worked in the same mill. Ann was a very go od looking woman and one of her brothers-in-law, Andy O'Connell, is report ed to have said "She shoulda been in New York on the stage". Andy was incl ined to exaggerate at times. Ann was a good cook particularly of wild ga me during the fall hunting season. Sonny and Ann were married in the Ho ly Cross School because at the time of their marriage the church had recen tly burnt down.
A Memory of Ann Feller Goetzman, written as part of a letter from Mary Ne ll (Coenen) Mally to her daughter Susan Mally.Dear Susan, You asked for the memories I have of my grandmother, Ann Fell er Goetzman, and so I share with you what I have, gladly. I have spoken wi th my Uncle Bob (Robert Goetzman of Kaukauna, WI) and he is going to se nd me some genealogy work done by a cousin of his. I will share that wi th you also. Remember that I was raised in Detroit and that we only visit ed my Grandmother, whom we called "Granonn" , in Wisconsin, during the su mmer months. I don't think that she ever visited us in Detroit; at lea st I don't remember any visits.It was a long ride from the southeastern corner of Michigan, around the bo ttom of Lake Michigan, through Gary , Indiana and up the western side of t he lake to Kaukauna. There were no expressways, just surface roads. My fav orite part of the trip always was Lake Shore Drive at Chicago. It literal ly followed the lakeshore for a good distance. And we always seemed to dri ve that stretch of road during a sunny afternoon and it was always beautif ul. Also, I don't remember any amount of traffic! Along the way my moth er would hand outlittle toys to us as we reached certain milestones (through Gary , after l unch, halfway, whatever!! They were also rewards for riding quietly and n ot arguing. Ann Feller Goetzman was born on September 10, 1892, I belie ve in Kaukauna, and attended Holy Cross Church and school. She was educat ed through the eighth grade, which was very usual in the early 1900's. A nd she was a Catholic throughout her life.Physically; I remember her as very short. (And remember that I was pret ty short as well because most of my memories seem to be from the time wh en I was eight, nine, ten and eleven. After that our family was too lar ge to make this trip very often.) Never overweight, but somewhat stocky. S he wasn't pretty, but was very, very neat; very soft and unassuming; ve ry quiet, very gentle. I don't remember her touching us. I have no memo ry of ever sitting on her lap. I don't think she ever read us a story .A nd actually I have no real warm, lovingmemories of her. But I ~have nice thoughts of my experiences with her! T he house where my mother grew up was (and still is located on Ducharme Str eet in Kaukauna where my cousin Lance lived for a number of years with h is wife and children) a large, white, clapboard house with a big covered f ront porch. We entered directly into the living room. It was ri wi th overstuffed furniture: a large solid-color couch and several stuffed ch airs. I remember sitting carefully on her couch with my brother Pete r. In front of us was a pretty wooden coffee table and on it was a low gla ss flower centerpiece in pastel colors; very pretty and very breakable. I 'm sure we were warned to be very careful of it! Those glass lilies were t here through all the years we visited Ducharme Street .

See Image Front Page; BOY DROWNED - Little son of John Feller loses his life in Canal. - Mr.and Mrs. John Feller's little son Johnny, aged nearly 8 years, met his death Wednesday forenoon by drowning in the canal basin at the third lock. When the excursion boat Evalyn went down Wednesday forenoon, it passed this lock about 10:00 which is undoubtedly when the accident occurred. Several small boys were there at the time and as near as can be ascertained the little Feller boy was not seen after that time. His body was found close by the gate of the government third lock, at the lower and, about 2:00 Thursday afternoon. The police were notified of the absence of the little fellow from his home about 10:00 Wednesday evening and from that time on made every effort to locate him. It first was thought he was on the boat, and some time Thursday morning a message was received from DePere the small boy was on the Evalyn which boat was then on its way to Kaukauna. Just after noon it arrived and the painful news was spread of his probable death by drowning as he was not on the boat. The canal basin and lock was emptied and the body found as stated. The funeral was held this Friday morning at 8:00 from Holy Cross church. Mr. and Mrs. Feller have the sympathy of the entire city in their sudden affliction.
1902 Kaukauna Sun dated 7/18/1902; Found in canal - Little John Feller drowned in the second level - Body found yesterday - Boy was missing since Wednesday supposed that he attempted to board the Evelyn - John Feller, the seven year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Feller was found dead in the second level of the government canal yesterday afternoon at 3:00. The little fellow had been missing since the forenoon of the day previous at 10:30. In company with Arr and Ray Schmalz, Frank Ponachek and Ben Hamilton he was last seen at the third lock and was heard by the boys to ask the captain of the Evalyn, which was being locked through at the time, if he could ride the boat to the fifth lock. The captain refused the lad's request. Little John Zobluski and told Marshall Conlon that he saw the boy jump onto a boat, but his statements are conflicting and the truth of how he fell into the water may come out at the inquest be held by Justice Koch's office next Monday forenoon. On the strength of the above statement it was decided to empty the second level, Marshal Conlon receiving permission from Engineer Mann of Oshkosh. When 4 ft. of water was removed from the canal the body was found close to the head gates of the dry dock, a few feet from where he was last seen. A mark on the boys lip and the cut over the right eye would indicate that he struck against something in falling, or else was injured by the wheel of the boat. The funeral was held from Holy Cross Church this morning at 8:00.

Private Theodore Feller When Mrs. Goetzman received her brother's letter dated June 2, some people were of the opinion that he had been wounded May 28 but had not died until after having written this letter. However, the telegram from Washington reported Private Theodore Feller, infantry died May 28 from wounds received in action. The Red Cross has determined that the Kaukauna soldier's reported death was in error.

News Mention:
Ted Feller, who was reported several weeks ago as having been killed in action last May while fighting in France was alive and well, reached his sisters, Miss Margaret Feller and Mrs. Goetzman last Saturday through a telegram from the war department at Washington. The family's joy was increased Wednesday by receiving a cablegram from France from Ted himself saying "was only slightly wounded, am leaving the hospital and ready for active service."

He was born Dec 27, 1907, in Sioux Falls. Later, Mr. Smith was graduated from Rapid City High school and received a bachelor of arts degree from Yankton College. After he married Willie Lee Rogers in Virginia on Jan 1, 1935, he moved to Pierre and was employed in the state treasurer's office. In 1940 Mr. Smith became deputy collector of Internal Revenue, moving to Aberdeen in 1942. He was a member of the Congregational Church at Aberdeen, the Aberdeen Masonic Blue Lodge, United Commercial Travelers, National Assoc. of Internal Revenue Men, National Foundation and was active in Boy Scout work.
Survivors include Mrs. Smith, two daughters, Maureen, Ortonville, Minn., and Sheila, Aberdeen; two brothers, Merle, Tea, and Darwin, Eugene, Or., and a sister, Mrs. Merlyn Davies, North Hollywood, CA. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Aberdeen and at 4 p.m. at the Banton Chapel with the Rev. Richard Kline officiating.

Zerelda M. Little, 80, of St. Paul, Minn., died Sund ay morning, May 19th, at Bethesda Lutheran Medical Center in St. Paul foll owing a lengthy illness. She was born July 2nd, 1904, in Kaukauna, Wiscon sin and was the former Zeralda Leppla. She was married to James Little a nd 1932, and he preceded her in death on February 10th, 1983. She was a g raduate of the Milwaukee State teachers College and taught kindergart en in Washington D.C., for several years. She moved to Chicago where s he became the children's program manager for the Litton's department sto re in Chicago. Survivors include two sisters, Helen Leppla Erickson, a Ch evy Chase Maryland, Doris Leppla, Ashland Wisconsin, several cousins. A c ommittal service will be held Thursday, May 23rd, at the Holy Cross cemete ry chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Juvenal Pfalzer officiating. Burial wi ll be in the Holy Cross cemetery. Boyce Funeral home is in charge of arra ngements.

He was born April 18, 1923, t he son of Joseph P. Feller and the former Martha Deviley and was a lifelo ng Escanaba resident. He was a 1941 graduate of Escanba High school and la ter attended Michigan State University for 1 1/2 years and was then induct ed into the U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theater until his honorab le discharge. He was employed for Johnson Distributing in Escanaba f or 17 years and later was the manager of the Delft and Michigan Theaters f rom 1969 to 1971. From 1971 to his retirement in 1990 he owned and operat ed "Don's Bar" in Escanaba. He was an avid and passionate golfer all his l ife, having been the U.P. champion in 1946 and 1947. He was also a golf p ro at Blaney Resort for a time. He received two holes-in-one with his golf ing, once at Highland Country Club and once at the Escanaba Country Clu b. He also enjoyed bowling, hunting, gardening and playing cards. He w as an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed conversation with friends a nd family. He especially loved to spend time with his two grandchildre n. He was a member of St. Thomas Church of Escanaba.Survivors include his wife, the former Elaine T. Cousineau, whom he marri ed Feb. 4, 1950 at St. Thomas Church; two sons, Joseph (LeAnn) Feller of M aywood Shores, Rapid River, and Robert Feller of Escanaba; two grandchildr en, Jessica and Paul of Maywood Shors; and nieces and nephews. Orville W. Yingling, 91, of Boulder Lake, died Monday, May 5, 2008, in Langlade Memorial Hospital, Antigo, WI. He was born January 21, 1917, in Kaukauna, WI, Son of the late Frank and Mary (Feller) Yingling. He married Hazel Alft in 1942. She preceded him in death in 1959. He married Beatrice Smits on September 30, 1961, at Kaukauna. She survives. He was raised in Kaukauna and graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1935. He was an Eagle Boy Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He received the Ad Altre Dei and the Silver Beaver Awards. Prior to WWII, he assisted in the planning and construction of Gardner Dam Boy Scout Camp at Langlade. During WWII, he served in the China Burma India Theater as a Master Sgt in the Signal Army Air Corps. He worked in Appleton as a Service Foreman for Wisconsin Telephone Company, which later became Wisconsin Bell. He retired in 1975 and moved to Boulder Lake where he was active in Langlade Little League as a coach. In Appleton, he was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society and Boy Scout Master for the church troop.
He was a member and lector at St. James and Stanislaus Catholic Congregation of White Lake and Langlade. He had a passion for the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, Bea Yingling Boulder Lake; two daughters: Kathy (Charles) Frisk, Green Bay; Carol (Sam) Hendry, Riverview, FL; four grandchildren: Stacey Frisk, Erin Frisk, Andrea (Dave) Young, Marty Larkee; four great-grandchildren: Rhianna and Doug Young, Skylar and Madison Larkee; a brother, Jim (Joanne) Yingling Laona; a sister Dorothy (Gene) Sage, Chula Vista, AK.
He was preceded in death by parents, wife Hazel Alft; four brothers: Jerome, Donald, Norbert and Francis Yingling.
Services will be held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Langlade, Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Paul Koszarek officiating. Yingling, Francis Harold "Frank" AppletonAge 74, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at Appleton Medical Cent er. He was born on August 29, 1927 to the late Frank and Mary (Feller) Yin gling. He was married to Dolores Giebisch on November 6, 1954. Francis ser ved in the Navy from 1945 to 1953. In 1953 he entered the US Marine Cor ps to become a Naval aviator. He served in Korea and Vietnam, retiri ng as a helicopter pilot in 1966, with the rank of Major.Friends from years ago will remember Frank fondly with the many hunting a nd fishing trips hours, they shared with him. Years ago Francis was acti ve in his Zion Lutheran Church and the Aim Intervention Program.Francis is survived by his wife; a son, Gregory (Paula) Yingling; a daught er, Laurie Yingling; a grandson, Jake, all of Appleton; two brothers: Orvi lle (Beatrice), Boulder Lake, Wisconsin; James (Joanne), Laona, Wisconsi n; and a sister, Dorothy (Gene) Sage, Arkansas. He was preceded in dea th by an infant daughter, Antonette; three brothers: Jerome, Donald and No rbert Yingling. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 16, 20 02 at Zion Lutheran Chapel, 912 N. Oneida Street, Appleton starting at 2: 00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Matthews leading a prayer service at 3:00 p. m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. James "Jim" N. Yingling, age 76, of Laona formerly of Kaukauna, passed away at his home on January 20, 2011. Jim was born September 27, 1934 in Kaukauna the son of Frank and Mary (Feller) Yingling.
On August 27, 1955 in Kaukauna he married Joann Driessen. He worked at International Paper for 41 years retiring in 1994 at which time they moved to Laona where he could golf more often. His hobbies include golfing and cutting the grass.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joann of Laona

A short biography from himself, Robert Goetzman, written in 2001.Bob and LaVerne, he being Catholic and she being Lutheran were marri ed in the rectory by the then Father Garthaus, Bob started working at t he Thilmany Paper Co. right out of high school and stayed with that compa ny for 43 1/2 years. He started for wages in the mill as an hourly labor er and advanced to the office marketing department and wound up his care er as manager of administrative operations. As with his dad, Bob spent mu ch of his time on and around the Fox River hunting ducks and small game. T he Fox River played a big part in the lives of all the Goetzmans. Bob w as proud of the fact that he served 20 years as a member of the Kaukauna H ousing Authority, two of which as the chairman. He was also a volunteer cl erk for 20 years at the Kaukauna St. Vincent De Paul store. LaVerne w as a sales clerk in a Kaukauna variety store before her marriage. She wa s, by choice, a mother and housekeeper.

Obituary:
Goetzman, Robert H.; Robe rt H. Goetzman, age 88, of Kaukauna, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 200 4, at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. Bob was born in Kaukauna on April 8, 191 5, son of the late Frank and Ann (Feller) Goetzman. He attended Holy Cro ss Grade School and graduated with honors from the Kaukauna High Scho ol in 1933. On June 8, 1940, he married the former LaVerne Kromer, she sur vives. Bob was employed by Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company in October of 1 933 and was transferred to the office in 1941. Over the years, he held var ious positions in sales, and retired in 1977 as the Manager of Administrat ive Services. He had been with Thilmany for forty-three years and was a me mber of the Quarter Century Club.While his son Lance was growing up, Bob was active in the Cub Scouts and t he Boy Scouts, and assisted in the construction of various buildings at t he Girl Scout Camp at White Rapids. Bob was a charter member of the Kaukau na Junior Chamber of Commerce and received the Jaycee's Man of the Year Aw ard in 1951 after having served as Vice President for one term. He was a m ember of the Kaukauna Improvement Committee, now known as the Environment al Committee. This committee was instrumental in the formation of the Thou sand Islands Nature Center. Bob was a former member of the Kaukauna Housi ng Authority Commission from 1968 until 1989, during which time he serv ed as its chairman for four years. During that time, the Golden Venture Ap artments were completely renovated. Bob was also a member of the Kaukau na Alumni Association, its Board of Directors, its President, and its Advi sory Board and received the coveted Alumni Award in 1992. He volunteer ed at the St. Vincent de Paul Store following his retirement, and continu ed his involvement there for some twenty-one years. Bob was a former memb er of the Kaukauna Elks Lodge, and was a 50-year member of Council #10 33 of the Knights of Columbus where he served as treasurer. Bob was al so an avid hunter and fisherman until his retirement at which time recreat ion turned to golfing, bowling, and walking. Born in Kaukauna to Frank and Anne (Feller) Goetzman, she married Lester Coonen, Aug. 9, 1941; he died Dec. 5, 1989. She then married Jerome Coonen on Nov. 22, 1990. A graduate of the University of Detroit, Mrs. Coonen was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a volunteer at Countryside Home in Jefferson, a published poet with the book entitled "It Is True," and a member of University Whitewater Friends of Poetry. Survivors include her husband, Jerome; eight sons, Peter of San Francisco, Calif.; John (Gail), Eureka, Calif.; Christopher (Claudia) of Haiku, Hawaii; Kim (Mary) of Cedar Springs, Mich.; Lee (Lori) of Waterloo; Michael of Champagne, Ill.; Steven of Escondido, Calif., and Erik (Cari) of Milwaukee; three daughters, Marynell (Timothy) Mally of Oregon, Wis.; Shelley Ann (Charles) Hoben of Columbus, Ohio, and Katherine (Mark) Foelker, Hebron; Jerome's 11 children, 23 grandchildren; one brother Robert (LaVern) Goetzman of Kaukauna, Wis.; and 22 grandchildren. Biography:
A short biography from her brother, Robert Goetzman, written in 2001.Virginia Goetzman was a free spirit all of her life and enjoyed obliging h er many friends. She enjoyed trying to figure out "what made them tick." A fter she graduated from high school, she lived in Milwaukee where she atte nded college for a couple of years. She and Lester Coonen were marri ed in Holy Cross Church with the reception held in the back yard of our ho me on Desnoyer St. I remember how my dad got a little tipsy and g ot up on the picnic table and sang an old fashioned song for the crowd. L es was a self made man and installed roofing to earn his way through St. N orbert's College and then through the University of Wisconsin for h is Ph D in Biology. "Gin" as she was called and Les lived in Toledo f or a couple of years where he taught in the Biology Dept. Incidentally, G in had been baptized Lucile, but never went by that name. Then they mov ed to Detroit, where he was head of the Biology Dept. As the story goes, L es, on his way home from college one evening, stopped in a shoe store whi ch was having a sale. There was a rack of childrens shoes with about two d ozen shoes in various sizes. To the surprise of the salesperson, he boug ht the whole rack. With eleven children there was always shoes for o ne or another. Sometime during their stay in Detroit, Gin was diagnosed w ith having a brain tumor necessitating a surgical operation. Since the Uni versity of Detroit was a Jesuit School, she was inundated with prayers fr om the faculty and students. She came out of the operation with "flying co lors" and was put on exhibition the next day to all the medical studen ts as an example of the perfect operation. Upon retiring, Les and Gin mov ed to Fort Atkinson because it was near Whitewater Wisconsin which had a c ollege and a good library. After Les' death, Gin married his brother Jerome. Gin and Les are both buried in Fort Atkinson.

no, i never wrote for Stars & Stripes....however, there is a very interesting connection...i was transferred from Japanese occupation 24th infantry div to stars & stripes in approx feb. 47 and appropriatedly reported only to find that i had been assigned to gen'l mcarthur 8th army hdq. in tokyo to report to the WVTR (armed forces radio tokyo) radio tokyo (50,000 watt station from which we broadcast to all of the armed forces in the far east at that time) later, the name was changed to encompass all of the armed forces.
at the time of my transfer to the radio station i was assigned to working in the news room assisting in the compilation of daily news reports from AP., UP.,INS, Reuters, etc.....however, before i could seen whats happening, the two senior news "reporters" were sent home for routine discharge and suddenly i was the "news editor" of Radio Tokyo WVTR at the ripe old age of 18.
when i also added a 5 minute daily sports cast to my daily routine it led up to the "color" commentry for the first annual Rice Bowl championship at the Nile Kinneck stadium betweten two champion occupation fomed forces teams played circa jan. 1 1948 (nile kinneck was decorated football player killed in the war.)
P.S. I was assigned to radio Tokyo BECAUSE THEY NEEDED SOMEONE WHO COULD TYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Biography; The following are comments and recollections on the life of Glenn Wilpolt written in 2003.
I was born in Kaukauna, WI. on Dec. 16, 1928. My birth took place at home at 910 Desnoyer St. This was because my mother declined to go to the hospital which was then under a Scarlet Measles quarantine and no visitors were being allowed into the hospital. I have few recollections of my early life in Kaukauna. It was in the middle of the depression ... my father was probably lucky to have a job working at a service station prior to later working at the Union Bag paper company where he progressed to the position of "machine tender" on a paper machine. When Union Bag closed the Kaukauna mill circa 1936-37 our family was given the opportunity to move to Hudson Falls, N.Y. along with 5 other families to work in the mill in that city. My first three grades in school were at Holy Cross school in Kaukauna. Following our move to Hudson Falls I attended St. Mary's school from grades four to eight. I was always a fairly good student and participated in the usual activities of a boy my age. Incidentally, at St. Mary's I was known as "John" Wilpolt because the sisters said there was no saint named "Glenn." On Dec. 26, 1941 my mother died following a relatively short illness, The cause of death was largely unknown at that time but a subsequent autopsy indicated cancer of the colon as we know it today. This tragedy forced my father to move his three children back to Kaukauna where family relatives "housed" us for several months while dad transitioned himself back to Kaukauna. Sisters Carole and Marge lived with Aunt Ann & Uncle Sun Goetzman and I lived with Aunt Ann & Uncle Ed Bay. In the summer of 1942 we were reunited as a family in an upstairs flat at 1111 Y2 Oviatt St. In Kaukauna. An unknown number of years later, we moved to the south side of Kaukauna to an address which I have forgotten. (Hillcrest Ave.??) During this period of Sept. 1942-46, I was a student at Kaukauna High School. In hindsight, they were very enjoyable years. I continued to be a fairly good student in the top 25% of my class and was involved in many activities. Among them were forensics, debate, honor society, student newspaper, boxing team and baseball co captain. In my junior year our debate team placed second in the State of Wisconsin final competition. And my senior year oration won first place in the state finals held in Madison. In the summer months, American Legion baseball and evening league softball teams kept me occupied.My working "career" started in the summer of 1944 at the Gustman Chevrolet garage where I earned $.40 an hour washing used cars in the lot or hand sanding primer coats in the body shop. This was followed in 1945 with shift work at the Thilmany Paper Co. during the summer months while trying to play baseball in between shifts. It was "grunt" labor but a lot better than $.40 an hour!! But it was working for the Kaukauna Times which helped to shape much of my future. In my junior year of high school, my journalism teacher recommended me to the publisher of the K Times as the high school correspondent. This included the various athletic events and led to the eventual opportunity as a local reporter. The experience gained here would ultimately influence a choice military assignment and later opportunities at the Univ. Of Wisconsin. Upon graduation from KHS in 1946 I was faced with some major decisions . .. My mill work experience made it clear to me that this was not the future for me. I was offered a small scholarship at Ripon College (an excellent liberal arts school) but my meager savings would not carry me for long in any college program. With the end of WWII in Aug. 1945, the govt. sponsored GI Bill was winding down and was programmed to end in the near future (although that never happened) So, at age 17, with my fathers signed permission, I enlisted in the U.S. Army for an 18 month tour of duty. This turned out to be the best career decision I would ever make! On Oct, 3, 1946 I was sworn into the regular U.S. Army and sent to Camp Lee (now Fort Lee) Virginia for basic training. Following 10 weeks of basic training, I was ordered to Camp Stoneman, California (Pittsburgh) and later assignment to the occupation army in Japan. After 10 days on a troop ship crossing the Pacific Ocean, and upon arrival at Yokohama, Japan I was sent to the 24th Infantry Division stationed in Sasebo, on the southernmost island of Kyushu, Japan. This was not a fun assignment!! In fact, it was an intensified duplication of basic training.Fortunately, I soon saw an ad in the army newspaper "Stars & Stripes" for anyone with some reporting experience ( thanks Kaukauna Times) and I responded with a resume' that may have gilded the lily a bit. Well over a month later transfer papers arrived in Sasebo and I was on my way back to Yokohama and the Stars & Stripes. But by the time I arrived they no longer needed more reporters and I was sent to the Armed Forces Radio Station WVTR in Tokyo as a clerk-typist!! (thank you Miss Porterville for KHS typing) WVTR was a 50,000 watt clear channel station serving all of Japan and the Southeast Asian occupation army. Shortly after my arrival, the two men working in the news room were sent home for discharge and almost before I could say "Sayonara", I was the News Editor at Radio Tokyo!! In addition, I announced a short sports report daily at 5:15 p.m. This in turn led to another "accidental" assignment: When our "color" announcer for t he first annual "Rice Bowl" football game on Jan. 1, 1948 came down with laryngitis, I was the fall back guy and I somehow stumbled through the game with the play by play man doing most of the talking.These were exciting times for me in the occupation army. WVTR was part of 8th Army Headquarters from which Gen. Douglas MacArthur was administering the occupation and restructuring the economy of Japan. I was responsible for the 12 noon and 6 p.m. daily news reports (MacArthur listened to the 6p.m.) The war crimes trials were ongoing with Tojo and cohorts and Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just getting started in recovery from the atomic bombs. With the U.S. downsizing the armed forces I was sent home for discharge about 3 months early. With a little Armed Forces Radio influence I was fortunate to get a low priority flight authorization (vs. 10 days on troop ship) and I had my first airplane rides of my life. These were 6-8 hr. legs from Tokyo to Kwajalian (sp), Guam, Wake Island and Hawaii (where we were " forced" to spend several days waiting for room on a flight to Fairfield-Suisun AFB (now known as Travis AFB!) I was discharged from the army on J an 16, 1948. Following a period of "rest and recreation" I enrolled at the Univ. Of Wis consin in Madison in Sept of 1948. The next 3+ years led to a BS degree in Economics. Along the way I was able to use my newspaper experience in the advertising dept of the student newspaper The Daily Cardinal. Paid commissions as ad salesman, advertising manager and ultimately Business Manager helped to supplement the $75/month payment from the G.I. bill. Student loans were almost unheard of in those days and I was able to finance myself over the years with various part time jobs including another summer at the Kaukauna Times. After graduation in Feb. 1952 I took a job with the Ansul Chemical Co. In Marinette, Wis. Following a brief training period I was assigned to a sales territory in their Los Angeles office where I worked for the next three years. It was near the end of that time period that I met the love of my life, a nurse from Ellis, Kansas (near Hays). However, I had to leave California and transfer back to Marinette before I realized that I couldn't live without her. We were married in Los Angeles on June 30, 1956 and moved with all our earthly possessions to Marinette following a honeymoon in San Francisco.The next four years were spent in starting a family and working in the Market Research and New Product Planning Dept. Sons Jay, Mark and daughter Carrie were born in the State of Michigan because St. Joseph's Hospital is in the city of Menominee, Mi. just across the river from Marinette, WI. In 1962 the Glenn Wilpolt family left Marinette and moved to Arlington Hts ., III when Glenn took a position with Container Corp, of America in Chicago. While living in Arlington Hts. two more sons were added to the family ... Matthew and Andrew. In 1967 we were transferred to the CCA plant in Oakland, Ca. (Emeryville) as a field sales manager. When talk of further transfers intensified in 1971, we came to a "parting of the ways" with Container Corp. It was then that the opportunity of working for ones self presented itself and at age 41, after much soul searching, we embarked on a new career as an insurance broker with Farmers Insurance Group. After the first couple of years getting established there was no looking back as we built a profitable agency in the Fire & Casualty insurance industry. After 21 years (and a disastrous home fire which destroyed all personal belongings in 1991) we retired and lived happily ever after!!!

Glenn Wilpolt, aged 86 of Oakland passed away on December 12, 2015, in Oakland, Ca. after a brief illness, just four days short of his 87^th birthday. Glenn was born in Kaukauna, Wisconsin on December 16, 1928, son of the late Richard and Margaret (Feller) Wilpolt. He graduated Kaukauna High School in 1946, and was Rally Master at the KHS 1966 Reunion. From Oct. 3, 1946 and Jan 28, 1948 he served in the US Army during the post WWII occupation force in Japan first in the 24th Infantry, but was transferred to MacArthur's 8th Army Hdqtrs in Tokyo and found himself assigned as the News Editor for WVTR Armed Forces Radio in Tokyo. Returning to Wisconsin he attended University of Wisconsin at Madison and along with debate class, softball, boxing and working on the Yearbook, he was in various positions on the daily newspaper, The Daily Cardinal, including Advertising Manager in 1950 and the Board of Directors in 1952. He was proud to be a Badger and he followed their sports teams, as well as his beloved Green Bay Packers, right to the end.
On June 30, 1956 he married Teresa Schuster in Los Angeles, CA. and honeymooned in San Francisco. The family lived in Wisconsin and Illinois until 1968 when the call came to move to California. They have been faithful members of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Oakland since the first month they arrived in California. He was an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance for many years retiring in 1991. Glenn was an avid golfer and was a member of Sequoyah Country Club until just last year and spoke often of his 2 holes in one.
In June 2006 Glenn and Terry hosted a large family reunion at Long Lake in Bloomer, WI for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Terry had been diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1993 and was moved into Mercy Assisted Living in 2007. For the last 8 years, Glenn has faithfully visited Terry 6 days a week arriving before lunch and leaving just before dinnertime. They loved being together whether on a cruise or just at home.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Teresa, five children: Jay Wilpolt of San Diego, CA, Mark Wilpolt of Chico, CA, Carrie Wilpolt (Kent Springer) of Pepperell, MA., Matt Wilpolt of Oakland, CA and Andy (Angelica) Wilpolt of Concord, CA. One granddaughter, Lily Wilpolt of Chico, CA; Two sisters Carole Solie of Appleton, WI; Marge Carey of Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law Phyliss Schuster of Hays, KS.;.a brother in law Richard Schuster of Stockton, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Lois, brothers and sisters in-law Riley Solie, Frank Carey; William Schuster, Fred Schuster, Gayle Schuster and Louis (Ruth) Schuster.
Funeral services will be at 10:AM on Wednesday December 30, 2015 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 30 Mandalay Rd. Oakland, CA. 94618 with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Oakland. Together Glenn and Terry will rest with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, much like the one from their family home kitchen window.

Janet L. Nelson, 75, recently died after a long illness. Janet was born in Kaukauna, Wis., on Aug. 17, 1932, to Andrew and Della (Feller) O'Connell and married the late Robert C. Nelson in De Pere, at St. Francis Church on Sept. 5, 1953. Janet graduated from De Pere High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She was a member of PEO Chapter Av., the Green Bay Symphony Guild, Resurrection choir at St. Mary's and St. Francis Church in De Pere, Scholarships, Inc., Bridge Marathon and "The Club", a group of high school friends that have met since the 1940's. Because of her love of books, Janet belonged to a book discussion group and tried to promote good books to many organizations. Janet was employed at the Brown County Central Library, a place she dearly loved, until she retired in 1997. Janet had been a member of the following Boards, the Green Bay Symphony, the Green Bay Symphony Guild and the St. Francis Parish Council in De Pere.
Janet is survived by two sons, Peter, New Berlin, Wis.; and Andrew, La Crescent, Minn.; two daughters, Amy, Frisco, Colo.; and Martha (Bruce) Richardson, Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Dennis (Delores) O'Connell, Mundelein, Ill.; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Andrew L. Nelson, Milwaukee, Wis.; and John Nelson, Mequon, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Jean Nelson, Oshkosh, Wis.; and many long-time friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Myra O'Connell and Noreen Jacobi; brother, Gerald O'Connell; two brothers-in-law, Philip Nelson and Leroy Jacobi; and one sister-in-law, Mary Sefton Nelson.
Friends may call at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez, on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, from 10 to 11 a.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating and Father Andrew Nelson as concelebrant. Interment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Donna Snow, 64, of Kaukauna, WI, passed away peacefully in her sleep early on April 8, 2009, while visiting her family in Vernon, British Columbia. Cause of death was due to weak heart muscle.
Snow was born Donna Mae Feller, on June 9, 1944, in Kaukauna, WI. She was the daughter of Elvira Marie (Conradt) & Harold Walter Feller. She graduated from Holy Cross & Kaukauna High School and resided in Kaukauna most of her life. She was a member of the Holy Cross Parish.
Donna was married in 1968 and widowed shortly after. She is the mother of one daughter, Sheila Snow and the VERY PROUD Grandmother to three; Isaac Hugh-9, Mikah Marie-6, and Angelica Claire Snow Assaly-4.
Snow was employed for 20 years by Voith Fabrics in Appleton, and was an Artfaire employee prior to Voith.
Donna will be fondly remembered and missed for her enormous heart, loud laughter, warmth & generosity, Green Bay Packers support, non-stop photography, scrap books, and cards. She will especially be missed for her "Aunt Donna Days" to many special great nieces and nephews.
Survived by daughter, Sheila Snow and her grand-children Isaac, Mikah and Angelica; all of Vernon, BC, Canada. Her mother, Elvira Feller, Kaukauna; sister, Barbara (John) Tetzlaff, Kaukauna; brother, John (Giovanna) Feller, Kaukauna; brother, Gary (Diane) Feller, Appleton; brother-in-law, Robert (Sue) Vanevenhoven, Greenville; and Godchild, Lorie (Kenneth) Deering, Kaukauna. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, many friends and co-workers.
Predeceased by spouse, Norman Snow, father, Harold Feller, and sister, Myra (Rob) Vanevenhoven.
Donna has requested a party to celebrate her life! Sheila will be coming to Wisconsin to host this party closer to June.
Her family in Wisconsin has arranged for a memorial service to be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna, on Monday, April 20th at 5 p.m. A social will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

on December 31, 2009, as per her request, Donna Mae Snow's ashes were released over the mountains in Whistler.
Knowing Snow, you know she'd love a little adventure thrown into the mix. After all her email address was "Bungiewoman@aol.com".. SO after sitting on the back patio of the condo we used to live in on Blackcomb mountain, I heard this whizzing sound in the distance, across the creek!... it took me 2 days to figure out it was a Ziptrek!...pondering the noise, I KNEW it was the perfect thing to do for Mom's last adventure!!... the next day, I took her ashes and went on the tour up the mountain, past the new Bobsled & Luge track, Hiked a bit thru the Rainforest, then zipped across the creek from one mountain to the next and back and forth again down 10 different zip lines! On the 9th, Mom's ashes were released behind where her 2 oldest grandchildren were born! ...JUST IN TIME for the 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Olympics!! She's there waiting, bringing on all of the fresh snow in Whistler right now!!... It started to snow that night and was dumping outside by the next morning!! :)

Hi Jay, In going through some of my late mothers things, I came across a 2003 letter from you to her regarding your genealogy efforts. I was wondering if you still were pursuing this project and if so how your efforts were going. I knew of your correspondence with my mother Jeane, but the last two years of her life were difficult for her to say the least and I did not have your email until I finally went through some papers that I had boxed up after her death and now over three years later am finally going through.
Also, I wanted to ask you if you had, during your research, uncovered any information about my grandfather, Merlin Davies and his family. I know of some information that my mom and Aunt Maxine passed down, but would like to know if there is anything more substantial out there as he and I were very close until his death.

Gary Yingling, 58, Kaukauna, passed away at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born on June 29, 1951, in Appleton, to the late Jerome and Helen (Andrejeski) Yingling. He married Virginia Christensen on Jan. 3, 2004. Gary worked for Thilmany for 40 years and was an avid golfer. He was a wonderful husband and father and was an all around great guy. Gary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held the position of High Priest.
