Family History Researcher:
I do believe that William was married twice. On the 1860, wife is list ed as Ann born abt 1822, Ireland; in the 1870 his wife is listed W.R. bo rn 1832 Ohio. There is a lot of difference between the two and then in t he 1880 it shows that he is divorced. I know this was a catholic famil y, so that would seem strange, but not impossible. However, 2 of the chil dren were born in Ohio. The family story is that both parents came from I reland. What do you think? Thanks, George

Dear Jay, I finally heard from the Catholic Diocese on the family of Micha el Peter Dorsey and Mary Ann Hilligan. There records indicate the followi ng:Baptismal record found at St. John Nepomucene In Little Chute. The bapti sm too place in Center (Mackville). He was born on 18 Aug 1857 and bapti zed on 3 Nov. 1857. It shows his mother's maiden name to be Butler.
Additional Note:In the 1860 census just above the listing for William and Ann Dorsey fami ly there is a John Butler who was two years younger than Ann and who's fam ily had a similar migration pattern.
Marriage record:Michael and Mary Ann were married at St. Edward in Mackville on 9 Jun 188 6. No record of parents names are given. Witnesses were Thomas Peter Bu tler and Helen Hilligan.
Additional Note:The next marriage in the records is that of the witnesses and they had a J ames hilligan as a witness. The diocese says this is an indication of 3 H illigan siblings.

Williarn Dorsey. 67. died. Wen. morning at his home in Freedom after a brief illness. He was born in Ohio and came to this county 60 years ago, settling on the farm where he died. His wife preceded him in death nine years ago. He is survived by a son, Thomas, of Center, and a daughter, Mrs John Kavanaugh Freedom, ten grandchildren. and two brothers. John of Appleton, and Michael of California. The funeral will he held at 9: 30 at the home and at 11o'clock Saturday morning at Sr. Ed- ward church. Markville, with the Rev. DORSEY FUNERAL
The funeral of William Dorsey who died Wednesday morning at home in Freedom, was held at 10 o'clock Monday morning from Edward church. Mackville, with The Rev. George Schemmelr conducting the services. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery in Appleton. The services were scheduled for Saturday but because of road conditions, were held Monday.

The daughter of the late Th omas & Coletta (Golden) Dorsey, Inez was born on March 2, 1921, in Mackvil le, WI. She attended Freedom High School, and graduated from Appleton Hi gh School.Inez was married to Harold E. Schroeder for 47 years, until his death in 1 988. Together they raised 8 children: Jim (Peggy); Joan (Fred) Orland; Lin da (Ray) Vanden Bergh; Chris (Joe Haubenhofer); John (Meg); Peggy (Care y) Wacker; Will. She was proud of her 19 grandchildren: Sarah, Huntz, Mar y, Jenny, Ben, Stacy, Joey, Annie, Cassie, Mark, Katie, Mike, Betsy, Ro b, Joe, Matt, Emily, Sam, Catie and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also sur vived by her brother, Bob Dorsey, Bossier City, Louisiana and sister, Ire ne A. Hopfensperger, Appleton and Whitehouse, Texas. Anna was born May 2, 1922, in Mackville. She married T homas Crowley on Feb. 23, 1946 in San Diego. He preceded her in death on S ept. 25, 1988. After graduating from Freedom High School, Anna served h er country in the United States Navy from December 1943 to December 194 5. Anna worked for many years as a market researcher, specializing in educ ation and commerce. Obituary:
Kavanaugh, William T.Born in Freedom, Wisconsin on September 1, 1919, Bill died on October 1 9, 2004, in Boca Raton, Florida, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s dise ase. Bill spent his professional life serving his country in various capac ities. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and served in the Europ ean Theatre in the Medical Service Corps as a Hospital Administrator. He c ontinued in that capacity after the war ended while working for the Vetera n’s Administration at Wood Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a nd later in his career at the Veteran’s hospital in Tuskeegee, Alabama. Af ter his active duty service, he remained in the Army Reserve, retiri ng as a Major. Bill relocated to Florida in 1972, and enjoyed his retireme nt years enjoying the warmth of Florida and traveling the world. He was pa rticularly fond of sitting in his 6th floor home and watching the big boa ts sail up and down the intercoastal waterway that was his backyard. He w as preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Eleanor, who passed aw ay in 1988.Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by h is wife, Dr. Terry Carr Kavanaugh; and his sons, Michael (Susan) and Jose ph (Jeri); his daughter Margaret; and his three grandchildren: Brian, Tra cy and Allison. He remained close to both his family and Eleanor’s fami ly even though living in Florida. He maintained loving relationships wi th his brothers: Jim (Dorothy), Nick (Marian), Jack (Jane), Bob (Rose), a nd Mike (Mary); and his sister Mary (Jerry). He was also close with Eleano r’s family including: Genevieve (Mert), Marge (Andy), Mary Ann (Jerry), Sy lvester (Millie), and Clarence (Joyce). Our collective memories of Bill wi ll include many social evenings spent playing cards with friends and relat ives.Bill will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery alongside his wi fe of 40 years, Eleanor, who is interred there. The graveside servic es at Arlington Memorial park will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 8th. M emorial Services will be held at his childhood church, St. Nicholas Cathol ic Church in Freedom, Wisconsin at 2:30 p.m. on December 10th.

Robert A. Kavanaugh ag ed 73 passed away Thursday November 4th, 1999, in the arms of his loving w ife and family. He was born on November 30th 1925 in Kaukauna son of the l ate John and Anna (Dorsey) Kavanaugh. On September 24th 1947 Bob married R ose (Coenen) Kavanaugh and had 52 years of wedded bliss while residi ng in Little Chute until retirement. They then moved to Kelly Lake in t he summer and Plant City Florida and the winter, filling his retirement wi th warmth, beauty and golf. Bob was self-employed, owning Kavanaugh Refrig eration from 1955 to 1988 in Little Chute. He was a member of St. John Cat holic Church and attended St. Clements in Plant City. He will be remember ed with loved by his wife Rose; four children, Karla and Tom Weyenberg, Li ttle Chute; Maureen and Ken Kappell, Kaukauna; Robert and JoAnn Kavanaug h, Appleton; Diane and Steve Reis, Brillion; Bob also had 13 grandchildre n; Susan (John) Schmitz, Michael, Scott, Elizabeth and Jessica Weyenber g; Sharon and Maria Kappell; Earl Kavanaugh, Jennifer and Janna Ortigar a; Jason, Jenny and Ashley Reis.
