James Alvin Radichel was born in New London, Wisconsin on March 18, 1941, to Alvin and Hildegarde nee Bussman Radichel of Hortonville, WI. He attended grade school at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville and high school at Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton, WI. He attended the Farm Short Course at the University of Wisconsin in Madison to learn the latest farming techniques. Jim then worked for the next 25 years as a department or general manager for several cooperatives in Wisconsin. On July 10, 1981, he married Judith Wilfling at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville. They have one daughter from Judith's previous marriage. In 1987, Jim entered the Lay Ministry program at Concordia College in Mequon, WI, to become a full-time church worker. He graduated with an Associate Degree May 13, 1989. He received a call to Faith Lutheran Church in Mercer, WI, and was installed on July 9, 1989. While serving Faith as a Deacon, he continued his education with the Rev. Harold Winter. In March of 2000, Jim was ordained into the Ministry. From 2000-2004, he served both Faith and Grace Lutheran Church of Three Lakes. In 2004, he semi-retired and served only Grace. He had many health challenges the last three years, beating lymphoma cancer, two leg amputations and a heart attack and a stroke.
The Lord called him home to Himself on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, while taking a ride outside on his power chair enjoying the sunshine. He served his Lord faithfully and is now free of pain and infirmities.
James is survived by his wife; daughter, Denise (Tom) Burts and grandchildren: Ashley and Christopher Burts, New Castle, Colorado; a sister, Karen Dorow, Appleton, WI; a foster brother, Leon Jensen, Waupaca; mother-in-law, Hildegarde (Richard) Schuessler, Shiocton, WI; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a very special sister-in-law, Charlotte (Ron) Solberg, Neenah, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Hildegarde; and step mother, Elsa nee Krabbenhoft.
Rejoice with the family as they celebrate James' life on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Three Lakes Evangelical Free Church at Highways 32 and 45S. Rev. Allen Montgomery officiating, Rev. Dr. Larry Jost the liturgist, Mrs. Dawn Conitzke the organist and Pastors of the Eagle River Circuit 5 Honorary Pallbearers; Revs. Ken Albers, Jonathan Clupper, Jeff Shearier, William Trosien, Gary Uttech and Mark Mischnick. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. A reception will follow.
