Biography:
GEORGE A. CUFF, the owner of a fine farming property in Hortonia township, and one of that section's representative citizens, was born March 12, 1859, in this township, and is a son of Alexander and Maria (Cuffe) Cuff, natives of Ireland. Alexander Cuff was born in 1824, in County Sligo, and in 1847 came to the United States, first locating in northeastern Ohio, and in 1849 came to Hortonia, taking up land on section 6. He was married in 1851, and in 1854 settled on a farm in section 31, which at that time was completely covered with timber, and the remainder of his active life was spent in clearing and cultivating this land. In his later years he retired and moved away, and his death occurred later. He and his wife were the parents of six children, namely: Margaret, who died in Detroit, Michigan; Charles Richmond, a farmer near Manawa; Rebecca J., who married E. H. Stimson, an Appleton photographer; George Alexander, and Letitia Lilly and Emma Jane, twins, the former of whom married W. Shaler Patterson, and the latter Arthur W. Millard, business men of Appleton and New London, respectively. Alexander Cuff was an independent republican in politics, and was greatly interested in matters of an educational nature, giving both of his time and means in supporting movements along that line. George Alexander Cuff received his education in the district schools of his native locality, and remained on his father's farm until he was twenty-one or twenty-two years old, when he purchased his present farm from his father. He has made many improvements on this land, and now has one of the finest farms in the township, fully equipped with handsome, substantial buildings. On January 11, 1881, Mr. Cuff was married to Miss Minnie L. Patterson, daughter of Orens and Margaret (Martin) Patterson, and they have had nine children, as follows: Margaret and Charles, who died in infancy; Edna, George, Orens, who is taking the agricultural course and is now a senior of the four-year course at the State University at Madison; Fanny, Clarence, Arthur and Neita. The family is connected with the Congregational church of New London. Mr. Cuff has for a number of years served on the school board as a director.

OSHKOSH Former agricultural agent dies
Owens P. Cuff, 85, Rt. 2, Hortonville, a former Winnebago County agricultural agent, died Wednesday morning at Central Michigan Community Hospital. Mt. Pleasant, Mich., following a short illness. Cuff served as agricultural agent from 1929 to 1937. Prior to that position he served as field editor for the Wisconsin Agriculturist, a farm paper. Born Sept. 29. 1887 in the Town of Hortonia in Outagamie County, he owned and operated several farms in that area until his retirement. He was a graduate of New London High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1912. He was a member of the Oshkosh Kiwanis Club for many years. He is survived by one daughter. Mrs. Kenneth (Margaret) Saunders, Weidman, Mich.; two brothers, Claire Cuff, Hortonville, and Arthur Cuff, Mt. Dora. Fla.; and one sister. Mrs. Joseph (Fanny) Larkins, Detroit. Mich; His wife. Gladys, who he married in 1913, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational United Church of Christ. New London, with the Rev. M. K. Spaskal officiating. Burial will be in the Hortonville Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the Borchardt-Moder Funeral Home. New London, after 2 p.m. Friday until Saturday morning, thereafter at the church.

Obituary:
Age 88, of Hortonville, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 in Appleton. He was born on April 24, 1925 in the Town of Hortonia, Outagamie County, son of the late Clair and Gladys (Hamilton) Cuff. Jim proudly served his country with the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. On August 30, 1958, he was united in marriage to Naomie Bruss. Jim and Naomie worked on their family farm until they started Cuff's Market and Greenhouse in Hortonville which they ran for nearly 40 years. In retirement, he worked for Garst, ICI and Brown Seed Companies. Jim was very active in the community. He was a member of the Hammond-Schmit American Legion Post 55 where he was a Past Commander, the Hortonville Lions Club, and a volunteer firefighter for many years. He enjoyed working, bowling, shooting dice, but most of all just being with all his friends. Jim was also a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in New London.
He is survived by his children: Janis (Howard) Shackley, Watertown; Rebecca (Dan) Brandborg and her son, Hamilton, Montana; John (Lisa) Cuff, Appleton; grandchildren: Shannon (Troy) Milbrath, Scott Shackley (Alyson Parker), Flynt Brandborg, Madeline and Jessica Cuff; great-grandchildren: Alexander, Jackson and Emerson Milbrath; siblings: Mary (Larry) Arbisi, Minneapolis, MN; Joann Shue, Brookfield; Dottie (Dave) Wege, Crystal Lake, IL; sister-in-law: Margaret Cuff, New London. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Naomie in 2010, a brother George Cuff and a brother-in-law Don Shue.
A memorial service for Jim will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in New London (110 E. Hancock St.) with Rev. Greg Watling officiating. Full Military Honors will be held at the church immediately following the service. A visitation for Jim will be held on Friday, October 4, from 4-7 p.m. at the Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home in Hortonville and also at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

George A. Cuff Sr., age 83, of Hortonville, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010. He was born on December 22, 1926, in the Township of Hortonia, Outagamie County, son of the late Clarence & Gladys (Hamilton) Cuff. On June 21, 1950, he was united in marriage to Margaret Ritchie in New London. He lived and farmed in Hortonia his entire life and formerly served on the Wisconsin Pork Producers Council and the New London Savings and Loan Board of Directors. George was best known for starting in 1964 Cuff's Strawberry Farm, which is still in operation today. He was also a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church in New London.
George is survived by his wife, Margaret. A daughter, Carol (Dave) Gerlach, New London. Two sons, Jim (Jane) Cuff, Waupaca, George Jr. "Sandy" (Lois) Cuff, Hortonville. A brother, Jim Cuff, Hortonville. Three sisters, Mary (Larry) Arbisi, Minneapolis, Joann (Don) Shue, Brookfield, Dorothy (Dave) Wege, Crystal Lake, Illinois. He is further survived by eight grandchildren, Jenny Cuff, Jason Cuff, Jesse (Heidi) Cuff, Jaclyn Cuff, Justin (Keri) Gerlach, Michael Gerlach, Nathan Gerlach, Maggie Cuff. Two great-grandchildren, Tristan & Ethan Cuff.
A Memorial Service for George will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in New London with the Rev. Greg Watling officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
