Obituary:
Merle G. Strobel "Smokie", age 76, went home on Friday, November 14, 2008, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born August 8, 1932, to the late Adam and Eilene (Jirik) Strobel in Antigo. Merle was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. On March 12, 1966, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Schroeder and together they celebrated 42 years of marriage. Merle was employed for many years by the Kaukauna Park System until his retirement. He enjoyed a variety of different things including hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, his son, Mark (Sally), Greenville and their children: Adam, Collette and Ryan Strobel, and a brother, Arliss Strobel, Antigo. He is further survived by his wife's family: Carol (Eugene) Tyler, Greenville, Earl (Suzanne) Schroeder, Greenville, Joanne (Joseph) Verhasselt, DePere, Donald (Margaret) Schroeder, Appleton, Doris Culver, Chicago, Duane (Karen) Schroeder, Appleton, Larry (Nancy) Schroeder, Hortonville, Gordon (Jean) Schroeder, Appleton, Barb (Gordon) Bahr, Appleton, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Kirk Strobel, a brother, Kenneth Strobel, a nephew, Brandon Bahr, and his mother and father-in-law, Carl and Esther Schroeder.
Merle's Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday November 17, 2008, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, 804 Grignon St., Kaukauna, with Rev. Karl Schultz officiating. Friends will be received directly at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Merle's name is being established. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna is assisting the family. 920-766-2099.
