    Obituary:
    Delmer A. Henning passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Appleton on June 26, 2017. He was born in Appleton on September 10, 1929, son of the late Walter and Sarah (Peters) Henning. Delmer married Margaret Peters on December 24th, 1951 and they enjoyed 44 happy years together until her death on December 5, 1993. Delmer later married Shirley (Klug) Schmidt on September 11, 1994. They had 22 years together as a devoted and loving couple.
    Delmer was a member of the Appleton West High school class of 1948. He participated in many sports during his high school years including football and track in which he achieved a State record pole vault. He also played Basketball in tournaments throughout the state in his youth. Delmer was employed as a Wire Weaver at Appleton Wire Works from 1948 to 1982, and Wisconsin Wire Works until his retirement on September 10, 1991. He was a proud member of the Teamsters union and proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954 as a J-47 Jet Engine Specialist and Senior Aircraft Electrician.
    Delmer is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Shirley; daughter: Debra (Thomas) Helm; a step daughter: Jamie (Steve) Spice; one grandson, Brandon (Lia) Helm that he adored and was very proud of. He is further survived by his sister Betty Mueller; his brother Robert (Judy) Henning, and his furry companions Chewy and Ellie Mae. Delmer was further preceded in death by his son, Scott; and his older brother Bruce.
    Funeral service for Delmer will be held at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME Friday June 30, 2017 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mike Huff officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home Thursday, June 29, 2017 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. and continue on Friday morning June 30 10:00 A.M. until the 11:00 A.M. service. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park.
    Delmer had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed hunting, fishing and building sturdy trailers. He was known for his big Teddy Bear hugs and sly smile.
    He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

    Delmer married Peters, Margaret 24 Dec 1951. Margaret died 5 Dec 1993. [Group Sheet]
