Obituary:
Germaine K. Doerfler, age 82, of Appleton, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, entered eternal life on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at home. Germaine was born on February 2, 1933 to the late August and Frances Mancl. On June 3, 1961, she was united in marriage to Henry James Doerfler at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Appleton. The couple enjoyed 37 years together until Henry's death in 1998. Germaine was a dedicated servant of our Lord Jesus Christ and was an active member at St. Mary Parish in Appleton where she served as organist and liturgist for many years. She was a member of the Secular Order of the Discalced Carmelites, The Community of St. Joseph, and The Widows of Prayer. She enjoyed music, teaching piano, playing the organ, and the many years working at St. Mary Parish - but most of all, Germaine enjoyed spending time with her family and treasured watching her grandson Bryan grow and develop into a wonderful young man.
Germaine is survived by two sons: Bishop John Doerfler and Tom (Lisa) Doerfler; grandson Bryan; three sisters-in-law: Donna Mancl, Pat Baum, and Sue Wilson. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry, grandchild Terry Doerfler, two brothers: Robert and John (Earline) Mancl, five sisters: Mary Louise (Vincent) Simon, Buelah Rose (Vincent) Baum, Joan (Chester) Meiers, Bernice (Roman) Janssen, and Mabel (Elmer) Wilson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Rev. Camillus Doerfler OFM Cap, Rev. Joseph Doerfler OFM Cap, Catherine Doerfler, Geroge and Verna Doerfler, Tom and Dorothy Kottmer, and Clarence and Theresa Schumacher.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, April 24, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 S. State St., Appleton, with her son, Bishop John Doerfler officiating. Friends may visit on Thursday from 5 pm until 8 pm at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, and on Friday at the funeral chapel from 9 am until 10 am. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 pm Thursday at the funeral chapel. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
