    Lyle was born in Moline, Illinois, and as a teenager moved with his fami ly to Minneapolis, where he graduated from Washburn High School in 193 8. His family lived at 5228 Brookview Avenue South in Minneapolis. Aft er high school Lyle attended three years of college at the University of M innesota and Dunwoody institute in Minneapolis, studying Mechanical Drafti ng until he was drafted into the Army. He was self-employed as a commerci al photographer ( took, processed and sold photos, advertisin g, illustration,) and air mapped Minneapolis and vicinity.
    Lyle was drafted into the United Sates Army in March 6, 1941 at Fr. Snelli ng, Minnesota.. He shipped out from Fort Snelling. He was a student at t he time he was drafted. Lyle made Sergeant July 1, 1942. His Army special ty was Electrical Mechanic, and he attended Graduate Officer Candidate Co urse #38 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was described as brown hair, blue ey es, fair complexion, and 5 feet 9 1/2 inches tall, in good physical condit ion, excellent efficiency rating, and excellent character on his honorab le discharge from Fort Sill, Oklahoma November 11, 1942 for the convenien ce of the government to accept appointment as a 2nd Lieutenant and acti ve duty in the AUS.. On November 12, 1942 he reentered active duty, and ov er the next four years was awarded the American Defense Ribbon, World W ar II Victory Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberati on ribbon, and American Theater Ribbon. He served outside the United Stat es from August 11, 1945 to August 29, 1945 in the American-Pacific Theate r, and from December 21, 1945 to January 6, 1946. He was separated at Ca mp McCoy, Wisconsin on April 9, 1946 due to demobilization. He was a Fir st Lieutenant with the 3292 Signal Base Maintenance Company, with a milita ry specialty of Reconnaissance and Survey Officer. He was based in the U nited States and Philippines, overseas 5 months. He was responsible for s upply - all types,material, quartermaster, ordnance, engineer, medical, si gnal, etc. - for the entire Base X Signal Depot. Total value, approximate ly 1/2 million dollars. His certificate of service for this period describ es him as 5' 110" with green eyes, brown hair, weighing 190 pounds, wi th commercial photographer as his civilian occupation. Lyle was diagnos ed with yellow fever malaria in June, 1942.
    On September 3, 1949, Lyle married Dorothy Heesaker, whom he had m et in a bathroom of a mutual friend. The wife had invited Dorothy over wh ile Lyle was helping the husband tile the bathroom, as so they met. F or a time Lyle and Dorothy lived at 5217 Minnehaha Boulevard in Minneapoli s.
    Lyle entered the reserves, and on 9-18-1950 entered Camp McCoy, Wisconsi n, being called up for the Korean conflict from the reserves. He separat ed as a First Lieutenant on 5-14-1952 from Camp McCoy.On his June 1, 1951 ID card he is described as 5' 9", brown hair, blue eye s, 211 pounds. At his final discharge May 14, 1952 he is a male Caucasia n, brown hair,blue eyes, 70" tall, 210 pounds, with a total of 11 year s, 2 months, 9days service time, including 6 months 7 days foreign servic e. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal for service in Germany. L yle had considered becoming "career army", but by now he and his wife we re trying to start a family and had several miscarriages.
    Buried at Fort Snelling Nation al Cemetery, Bloomington, MN. Lyle spe nt a total of twelve years in the army, first as a draftee for WWII, th en as a reservist who got called up for the Korean War. Lyle was station ed for a while in Germany, where Dorothy went and stayed with him.
