    Kasten, LaVerne A., Little C huteAge 83, died peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday December 2 7, 2003 at Parkside Care Center. LaVerne was born to the late Bill and Mil lie (Hartzheim) Mader on March 17, 1920 in Appleton. She grew up with sev en brothers and learned at an early age to stand up for herself. The yea rs growing up with her brothers gave her the toughness and compassion s he carried thru life. LaVerne was very proud of her Miss Darboy title ba ck in her teenage years. She always did well in school, going on to "Norm al School" after high school to become a teacher. Her teaching aspiratio ns ended when she met and fell in love with Les Kasten. She married L es on September 16, 1939 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Darboy. LaVer ne was a devoted farm wife and mother raising seven children with Les. LaV erne and Les owned and operated the Lake Park Tavern for five years. LaVer ne was always ready for a sheepshead or cribbage game, drawing two perfe ct hands in cribbage in her lifetime. She loved music especially her ki ds singing and harmonizing. LaVerne always had a great sense of humor ev en during her illness. She will be greatly missed by all.She is survived by her husband, Les Kasten; seven children, Glen (Sandy) K asten, Bonnie (Carl) Vanden Heuvel, Leslie (Lorna) Kasten Jr., Donnie (Ros e) Kasten, Sandy (Tom) Van Thiel, Peggy (Dick) Van Asten and Lori Londr e; twenty-one grandchildren, Kay (Terry) Sheedlo, Danny Kasten, Kristy Kas ten, Vicky Jesko, John (Trish) Vanden Heuvel, Jeff (Debbie) Vanden Heuve l, Rick (Jackie) Vanden Heuvel, Lee (Tricia) Kasten, Kraig (Tammy) Kaste n, Jenny (Dan) Boettcher, Missy (Brian) Ahrens, Dawn Kasten, Cody (Lynett e) Kasten, Angela Kasten, Shelly (Ben) Pohlmann, Steve (Brooklyn) Van Thie l, Lisa (Tyler) Romenesko, Brielle Londre and Paris Londre and twenty-ni ne great grandchildren. She will also be missed by four brothers, Lawren ce (Linda) Mader, Ralph Mader, Cyril Mader and Donald (Phyllis) Mader a nd numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Arlon, Jack a nd Bob Mader and three sisters in law, Helen, Eleanor and Marie Mader.The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday December 30, at HOLY ANG ELS CATHOLIC CHURCH, W5831 Hwy KK, Darboy with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiatin g. Friends will be received on Tuesday at Church from 9:00 a.m. until t he time of service.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.The Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna is assisting the family. 766-2 099.The family would like to thank the staff at Parkside for all the love a nd compassion they gave to LaVerne.
