    Lexie E. Van Asten, Little Chute, 87, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Parkside Care Center. She was born in Chicago on July 28, 1921, to the late Fred and Rosalia (Flynn) Schueneman. On January 16, 1941, Lexie married Melvin Van Asten Sr. at St. Mary Parish in Appleton. She worked as a seamstress for many years at Zwickers, Penneys, Gimbels and Marshall Fields and, eventually, retired from Stitch's. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. Lexie was a proud grandmother and enjoyed attending their games, recitals and school functions. Many will remember the dresses and gowns she made for family, always ensuring that the girls in her family had matching dresses for the holidays.
    Lexie is survived by her children, Jacqueline (Patrick) Hughes, Appleton; Melvin Jr. (Victoria), Wabeno; and Charles (Sandra), Little Chute; grandchildren, Daniel (Lynette), Brenda (Kathy), Michelle, and Todd Hughes, Linda (Richard) Geurts, Catherine (Richard) Wood, Scott (Kris), Doug (Amy) and Brian (Quinn) Van Asten, Kim (Ken) Newhouse, Kristen (John) Daniels and Kelly (Boyd) Randerson; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother Rodney Schueneman; and sisters-in-law: Angie Schueneman and Irene Van Asten. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
    In addition to her parents, Lexie was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Sr.; father- and mother-in-law, John and Hattie Van Asten; brothers, Freddy and James; and sister-in-law, Pat Schueneman. She was also preceded in death my numerous brothers and sisters-in-law from her husband's family.
    Visitation will be held at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH Wednesday, May 27, 2009, beginning at 2 p.m. until the time of Mass at 5 p.m. The Rev. David J. Funk, O.F.M. Cap. will officiate. Lexie's family would like to thank her dear friends, Winnie Wieseckel, Nita Randerson and Cliff and Pat Jansen for the love, help and companionship they gave her through the years.
