Obituary:
Norman Edward Kasten, age 94, died peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2016 with his family at his side.
Norman was born August 10, 1921 in the Town of Black Creek the son of the late William and Anna (Volkmann) Kasten. Following his education Norman served his country in the United State Army during WWII, from August 1942-November 1945 in the South Pacific. He was united in marriage to Betty Anne Brower on August 19, 1950 at the First English Lutheran church in Appleton. Norman was a Dairyman in the Black Creek area for a number of years and was formerly employed with Fox Tractor and Vic Timm construction and retired from Gilbert Paper in 1986. Norman was a charter member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Appleton serving on the church council, the Fox Valley Lutheran Board, taught Sunday school and volunteered on the church grounds committee.
Norman is survived by his wife, Betty of 65 years, a daughter, Cheryl (Jim) Marx, a son, Brian Kasten, grandchildren, Jason (Summer) Marx; Greg Marx (Kim DeBraal); Tracy Kasten (Mike Suess) and Brenda (Josh) Vandenberg; great-grandchildren, Aurora and Delaney Marx and Isaac Vandenberg and a sister-in-law, Ione Murphy, and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws, John and Lucille Brower, sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and William Schulzendorf; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Katherine Kasten and a niece and a nephew.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Bethany Lutheran Church 530 W. Parkway Blvd Appleton, with the Rev. Mark P. Henke officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. Norman's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Military Honors will follow the service at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
