Yester day afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the family home on Pine street Island, Jo hn Glasheen succumbed to an attack of apoplexy after an illness of less th an a week's duration. Mr. Glasheen suffered a stroke of paralysis on Wedne sday and since that time had been in a critical condition. He was bo rn at Holland, Wis., June 10, 1861 and had been a resident of this city on ly a few years. He is survived by his wife and four sisters, Mrs. Willi am Dorsey of Center, Mrs. Campbell of Holland, Mrs. James Summers and Mr s. William Farrell of North Dakota.

See Image A victim, according to hospital authorities, of the fatal disease, leukemia, James Clement Summers for 15 years manager of Live Oak cemetery, died yesterday at the Veterans' hospital at Sawtelle.Mr. Summers leaves a motherless family of six young children, bereaved in the death of their mother, Mrs. Katherine Summers, Aug. 21, 1939. The Summers family resides at 490 Leroy ave., Arcadia. In addition to his business connections in Monrovia, Mr. Summers was well known here in fraternal circles and was a past exalted ruler of Monrovia Elks lodge and a member of Monrovia Council, Knights of Columbus. Mr. Summers was born Nov. 12, 1891 in North Dakota and had resided in Arcadia for 12 years and in California for 17 years. He is survived by four daughters, Kathaleen, Frances, Mary Lou and Patricia and two sons, Clement and John, all at home, and a brother. Rosary will be recited tomorrow evening at 9 o'clock at the chapel of Glasser and Johns in Arcadia and requiem mass held Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at the Church of the Holy Angels in Arcadia. Rev. Father Gerald O'Keeffe will officiate and internment will be made in Live Oak cemetery.

He was born in Holland, Wis., on Sept 8, 189 1, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. William Campbell. He received his educati on in Holland town where he spent his early life. A veteran of World W ar I, he entered the U.S. Navy on June 24, 1918, and served aboard the U.S .S. Liberator and the U.S.S. President Grant. He was honorably discharg ed Oct 11, 1919. Sadie A. Campbell, 79, 155 N. Maple St. died Tuesday evening at a local ho spital after a short illness. The daughter of the late William and Anna Ca mpbell was born Oct. 7, 1901 in Hollandtown, and resided there until 195 8. She then moved to Green Bay where she was employed at St. Vincent's Hos pital until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of the daughters of I sabella, St. Anne's Society of St. Patrick church and St. Vincent de Pau l. Survivors include three sisters, Winifred Joyce, Mary VanAbel and Ru th Campbell, all of Green Bay; three brothers, Willard and Howard, Kaukau na and Alban, Ripon. She was preceded in death by one sister Olive Milt on and two brothers, Maurice and Harold. Burial in St. Francis Cemetery, H ollandtown.
From VanAbel Family History;Sadie was never married. After leaving the family farm, that was then r un by James Van Abel, she moved to Green Bay where she lived with her sist er Mary Helen Van Abel. She worked for many years as a nurse's aid at S t. Vincent's Hospital. Sadie was well known for the popcorn balls she ma de for the children of James and Thomas Van Abel. This became a Christm as ritual that was eagerly anticipated.

She taught elementary school in Outagamie, Brown a nd Kenosha counties. Ruth was married to Thomas J. Campbell on October 2 6, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1960, as did her son Thomas J. Jr. (T ejay). She also had five brothers and three sisters who proceded her in de ath; Maurice, Willard, Alban, Harold, Howard and Olive (Dolly) Milton a nd Winifred Joyce and Sadie Campbell.She is survived by her daughter Anne (Mrs. Richard) Melotte, Green Ba y; by her sister, Mrs. Mary VanAble, formerly of Green Bay, now residi ng in Kaukauna; three grandchildren, Marty Melotte, Greenville; Molly Melo tte, Greanleaf; Maggie Melotte, Bridgewater, Conn.; and two great grandson s, Paul and Neil Ledvina.Ruth was a member of Annunciation parish for 51 years. He had been employed at Thilmany Pulp and Paper, Kauka una, at the time of his retirement in 1965. Survivors include two daughte rs and sons-in-law: Eileen and Tom Nytes, Joanne and John Kobussen, a ll of Kaukauna; two sons, and daughters-in-law: Colonel William and Elai ne Campbell, Hawaii; Patrick and Patricia Campbell, Kaukauna; two brothers :, Willard, Kaukauna; Albin, Ripon, two sisters: Mrs. Mary Van Abel, Mr s. Ruth Campbell, both of Green Bay; and 16 grandchildren. He was preced ed in death by his wife, Gertrude, October 20, 1985, two brothers, Mauri ce and Harold, three-sisters, Mrs. Dolly Milton, and Mrs. Winefred Joyc e, and Miss Sadie Campbell, and two infant grandchildren. The funeral wi ll be at 12 noon Saturday December 28,1985 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ka ukauna, with the Rev. Theodore Hendricks officiating. Interment wi ll be in the parish cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in h is name.

The daughter of the late Th omas & Coletta (Golden) Dorsey, Inez was born on March 2, 1921, in Mackvil le, WI. She attended Freedom High School, and graduated from Appleton Hi gh School.Inez was married to Harold E. Schroeder for 47 years, until his death in 1 988. Together they raised 8 children: Jim (Peggy); Joan (Fred) Orland; Lin da (Ray) Vanden Bergh; Chris (Joe Haubenhofer); John (Meg); Peggy (Care y) Wacker; Will. She was proud of her 19 grandchildren: Sarah, Huntz, Mar y, Jenny, Ben, Stacy, Joey, Annie, Cassie, Mark, Katie, Mike, Betsy, Ro b, Joe, Matt, Emily, Sam, Catie and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also sur vived by her brother, Bob Dorsey, Bossier City, Louisiana and sister, Ire ne A. Hopfensperger, Appleton and Whitehouse, Texas. Irene was a devoted a nd loving caregiver to Inez throughout her illness.Inez was preceded in death by an infant son, Dougie; 4 sisters and 3 broth ers.She lived in Appleton all her life, except for a 6-year period in Colora do Springs. Inez was a member of St. Thomas More Parish since 1963. She w as an exceptional cook and an avid reader. Inez volunteered at various org anizations, including St. Elizabeth Hospital and CASI house. She enjoyed p laying cards with her friends and traveling. Inez found great pleasu re in a good meal, a good book and a good laugh with family and friends.The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, February 14, 200 5, at ST. Anna worked for many years as a market researcher, specializing in educ ation and commerce. Kavanaugh, William T.Born in Freedom, Wisconsin on September 1, 1919, Bill died on October 1 9, 2004, in Boca Raton, Florida, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s dise ase. Bill spent his professional life serving his country in various capac ities. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and served in the Europ ean Theatre in the Medical Service Corps as a Hospital Administrator. He c ontinued in that capacity after the war ended while working for the Vetera n’s Administration at Wood Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a nd later in his career at the Veteran’s hospital in Tuskeegee, Alabama. Af ter his active duty service, he remained in the Army Reserve, retiri ng as a Major. Bill relocated to Florida in 1972, and enjoyed his retireme nt years enjoying the warmth of Florida and traveling the world. He was pa rticularly fond of sitting in his 6th floor home and watching the big boa ts sail up and down the intercoastal waterway that was his backyard. He w as preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Eleanor, who passed aw ay in 1988.Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by h is wife, Dr. Terry Carr Kavanaugh; and his sons, Michael (Susan) and Jose ph (Jeri); his daughter Margaret; and his three grandchildren: Brian, Tra cy and Allison. He remained close to both his family and Eleanor’s fami ly even though living in Florida. He was born on November 30th 1925 in Kaukauna son of the l ate John and Anna (Dorsey) Kavanaugh. On September 24th 1947 Bob married R ose (Coenen) Kavanaugh and had 52 years of wedded bliss while residi ng in Little Chute until retirement. They then moved to Kelly Lake in t he summer and Plant City Florida and the winter, filling his retirement wi th warmth, beauty and golf. Bob was self-employed, owning Kavanaugh Refrig eration from 1955 to 1988 in Little Chute. He was a member of St. John Cat holic Church and attended St. Clements in Plant City. Later, he worked as a heavy equipment operator, helping to build the Ellison Air Force B ase in Fairbanks, Alaska. He also worked on the atomic bomb project in the Mohobi Desert. In the 1950's he went into the insurance and securities business. He spent his retirement years in California. He is survived by his wife; his sons, Michael (Barb); Joe (Leslie); his daughter, Jeanna (Peder) and grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, infant daughter, and his brothers, Roland, JUnior and Leo, and his sister Mary Ann Harrison. My father, Joseph Willard "Dee" died of a) hemorrhage, b) right pneumonectomy c) carcinoma right lung, according to his death certificate. My mother told me he had lung cancer and died as a result of the surgery.

On his service application, my father listed his name as Willard NMI
Campbell. His death certificate reads Willard Joseph Campbell. I
always understood it as Willard Joseph. I mention this because your
research refers to him as Joseph Willard.

Jean E., my father's first wife, was Jean Adams, according to his
service record. They were married before May 43 and had 1 child by
that time, according to his service record. On July 30, 43, he listed
Jean's address as 1270 N. 47th Street, Milwaukee.

His service record also says he attended Wauwatosa High School in
Milwaukee. Under his employment record, he listed Douglas Aircraft in
Santa Monica from 6/41 to 9/42. He gives no details. I found that
interesting given that Hank Marino opened his bowling alley in Santa
Monica in 1940. Douglas Aircraft was, indeed, in full swing during
that time in Santa Monica supporting the war effort

Some divorce dates for my dad "Dee":
Jean: 1947
Thekla (also spelled Teckla): She filed for divorce three times before it was finalized: 4/27/53 (reconciled 10/02/53), 5/01/55 (reconciled by December), and finally 1/07/59. The divorce was granted on 5/21/59 (my father didn't show up).
Mary Janice Varney: 4/08/64
My mother, Mary Janice Varney, remarried Roland Harry Haffner in 2/12/66 and in 1/06/68, both in Las Vegas. The first marriage wasn't legal as he was still married to another woman.
BTW, in the divorce papers, he is called Willard J. Campbell.

Here's something else I thought was interesting. I may have found another marriage for my dad.
I was doing a newspaper search and came across an article in the Waukesha Daily Freeman dated 9/08/49. It said that a woman named Pearl Campbell of Waukesha was granted an annulment from Willard Campbell of Milwaukee. It said he married her before having been divorced for a full year as required by law. Apparently he was divorced on 3/30/46 and married Pearl in July.
I got the divorce date from Jean from my mom's divorce petition. She had a specific date for his second divorce, but only a year for the first. It's possible she was guessing, and was off by a few months.
I don't know if this would have made six marriages, or if my mom was his fourth.

He was in the regular army from 9/23/42 until his honorable discharge 6/29/43, when he was discharged to accept a commission in the Army. He went through pilot training. in Blytheville Ark, Greenwood, Miss., Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Maxwell field in Montgomery, Ala. He was married to Jean at the time and already had a child. I'm afraid it didn't end well. He was AWOL for 37 days and court martialed at Drew Field in Tampa Fla., 2/15/45 and sentence to three years hard labor at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.

Thomas R. Van Abel, 82, Kaukauna, passed away on Friday morning, Nov. 25, 2011, at his residence. He was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Appleton, to the late Albert and Mary (Campbell) Van Abel. On April 26, 1958, he was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Jacques at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna.
Tom was an U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Europe. He was employed by Thilmany Paper for many years until his retirement. Tom was a long-time member of the Kaukauna Elks Club, a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Men's Choir at St. Francis Catholic Church in Hollandtown. He enjoyed golfing and spending the winter months with his wife, Jacque, in Florida, along with their many friends from the Hollandtown area.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jacquie; three children, Mark (Kimberly), San Diego; Amy (Bill) Sarles, Mequon; and Craig (Mary), Appleton; six grandchildren, Lauren Van Abel, Molly, Megan and Emily Sarles, Joshua and Nicholas Van Abel; and a brother, James (Marlene) Van Abel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Van Abel.

Kaukauna - James E. Van Abel, age 87, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 4, 2018. He was born on October 11, 1930, son of the late Albert and Mary (Campbell) Van Abel. Jim married Marlene DeLeeuw and together they have celebrated over 61 years of marriage.
Jim ran the family farm until 1965, and then enjoyed serving his insurance clients for over 30 years until his retirement. Jim was an active member at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Kaukauna for many years, and was in the choir and an usher for 50 years. Jim had a lifelong passion for bowling that started as a pin setter at VanAbel's of Hollandtown at the age of 16. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. Jim most valued spending time with his family whether just visiting, or playing a good game of sheephead or cribbage.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Van Abel; children: Gary (Elizabeth) Van Abel, Dick (Sue) Van Abel and Karen (Joe) Meyer; grandchildren: Carolyn (Kyle) Coleman, Mary (David) Lenz, Michael Van Abel, Luke (Michelle) Van Abel, John (Kelsey) Van Abel, Leah (Aaron) Williams, Laura Taggart and Bryan Meyer; great grandchildren: Ella and Adeline Coleman, Elijah Lenz, Joy and Sariah Van Abel and Isla Williams; brothers and sisters-in-law: Betty Courtney, Rosemary Kraus, Clarence (Lois) DeLeeuw and Joyce DeLeeuw; nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Grace Lobeck, 81, formerly of Mandan, passed away March 12, 2012, at her home in Sun Lakes, Ariz. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant and the Rev. Fred Harvey as concelebrant and homilist. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan.
Grace was known to family and friends lovingly as "G," a nickname that her oldest grandson, A.J., coined as he couldn't quite get "Grandma Grace" out as he was starting to talk. Since it was a nickname created by one of her most cherished things in life - her grandchildren - she insisted it had to stay!
Oakes was Grace's birthplace on Nov. 12, 1930, to parents, Tom and Nell (Farrell) Sabby. She grew up in Verona with her parents and three sisters, graduating from Verona High School in 1948. Grace started the family heritage of playing basketball, being named to the All-State basketball team and leading her team to the State Tournament. All three of her children enjoyed many years of basketball, as well as her grandsons, and she could always be talked into a friendly game of "Horse" at the lake or in the driveway.
Grace married Al Lobeck, also of Verona, in 1951. They lived in Fargo for the first few years of their marriage and moved to Mandan in 1954 where they resided until they moved to Arizona in 2006. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with all of their children and grandchildren in Sun Lakes, Ariz., last September. While in Mandan, Grace worked for many years and retired from the Agricultural Research Center. Before moving away from Mandan, she loved working for the Mandan News.
There's not a person that ever met Grace that didn't remember her. She was vibrant, full of energy and life, and loved to be the life of the party. She enjoyed all games…cards of all kinds, sports, spending time at the lake, fishing, and she didn't miss many Bingo games. If there was a gathering of four people and there was a deck of cards, you can be sure that no one would be allowed to leave until they played! She had a fun-loving competitiveness that everyone enjoyed.
Another love was following NBA basketball, specifically Phil Jackson. She watched Phil play basketball in high school, was an avid Chicago Bulls fan while he coached there, and probably one of the biggest Lakers fans there was!
Next to Al, Grace's biggest love was her five grandsons and step-grandson. She loved spending time with them, baking cookies, playing games, laughing, watching their sports, and just hanging out.
She is survived by her husband, Al Lobeck, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; three children, Jeff (Stephanie) Lobeck, Chandler, Ariz., Jim "Jimmer" (Tana) Lobeck, Mandan, and Becky (Greg) Haider, Peoria, Ill.; her grandchildren, Alex (A.J.) and Zachary Lobeck, Chandler, Ariz., Kaden and Brogan Lobeck, Mandan, and Jordan Thomas Haider, Peoria, Ill., and step-grandson, Britain Bentz, Mandan; three sisters, Carolyn Berry, Lamoure, Bonnie Christensen, Verona, and Donna Ritter, Brookings, S.D.; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins, and special friends that are too numerous to name. She will be greatly missed by everyone and gatherings without her won't be the same.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Nell Sabby; her brothers-in-law, George Berry, Louis Christensen, Richard Ritter, and James C. Lobeck; her nieces, Lori Ann Christensen and Laurie Berry; as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Our dear Kathleen, 81, died Saturday April 7, 2012 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, WA, following many complications after back surgery. Her struggle is over, she is finally free of pain and the Lord is "holding her in the palm of His hand".
Kathleen was born August 1, 1930 in Fullerton, North Dakota, the daughter of T.J. and Lorraine (Farrell) McCann, was raised in Verona, ND and Renton, WA.
After graduating from Renton High School in 1948, Kathleen attended business school (comptometer training) and worked at Langendorf Bakery in Seattle.
On June 9, 1951 Kathleen married her beloved husband, John William "Jack" Duncalf at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Renton.
She enjoyed dancing with her husband and visiting the Oregon Coast with him. Kathleen also loved the pink roses her husband grew for her in his rose garden. She was a resident of the Mount Vernon area since 1965.
Kathleen was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she enjoyed being a lector. When her seven children were young she volunteered at Immaculate Conception Regional School.
After losing her husband 25 years ago, she taught grief classes. Kathleen was an avid reader, loved to travel, mostly to Europe, especially enjoying many historic holy sites. She also love touring Ireland, and was so proud of her own full Irish heritage.
Kathleen faithfully attended mass, led a small prayer group in her parish, was part of the 'Lifters' prayer group, and for many years was on the board of the Regional Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
Kathleen is survived by her son, John Duncalf; six daughters, Kathie Sutton, Debbie (Tom) Mueller, Jackie (Ken) Schimke, Sherrie (Tom) Hilliard, Beckie Keefe and Julie(Jim) Moores; four brothers, Jerry McCann, Tom McCann, Jack McCann and Mike McCann; three sisters, Patty McBeth, Betty McCann and Sharon McCann; grandchildren, Camille Duncalf, Gabbie Duncalf, Libbie Allenbrand, Alexis Stratman, Justine Andrews, Kellen Schimke, Kristopher Schimke, Brendon Hilliard, Jessica Nevins, Matthew Keefe, John Keefe, Jenna Moores and Laura Moores; a large extended family and many dear friends. Her 13 precious grandchildren and five beautiful great-grandchildren knew when they greeted her they would be hugged until they proclaimed, at her urging, that they were "Nana's boy" or "Nana's girl".
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son-in-law, Charlie Sutton, and brother, Joseph McCann.
Kathleen's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 20, at 12:15 (with the Rosary immediately before at 11:40), Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 S 5th Street. A short graveside service will take place immediately after at Mount Vernon Cemetery, 1200 E Fir Street, followed by a reception lunch at Saint Joseph's Center, 215 N 15th Street, Mount Vernon.
Memorial donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception "New Church Building Fund", 215 N 15th Street, Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Kern Funeral Home.
