    Obituary:
Paul M. Kees, Sr., age 91, of Chilton, formerly of the St. John area, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. He was born November 18, 1922 in the Town of Woodville, son of the late Mathias & Marie (Mirsberger) Kees.
He married Viola L. Geiser on June 15, 1944 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Charlestown. The couple farmed side by side in the Town of Woodville until their retirement in 1984. Paul enjoyed his farm life, so while in retirement he took every opportunity he could to help his grandson with his farm operation.
He was a member of St. John Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. John where he was a Charter Member of the adult choir and volunteered countless hours cutting the grass and plowing snow on the church and cemetery grounds. He was a member of the Catholic Knights, Catholic Family Insurance Society and was a 4th Degree Knight and a member of the Honor Guard in the Knights of Columbus; Paul was proudly recognized as the first Grand Night of the Tri-Parish Council. He served two terms on the Hilbert School Board, 3 terms on the St. John School Board, and served on the building committee when the school was built in St. John.
Paul never wanted to let his mind sit idle. He was a voracious reader and never turned down an opportunity for a good round of Sheepshead.
Paul was an inspiration to all who came in contact with him, if even for a short time. He was always in good spirits no matter how he felt. He cherished his faith, as was evidenced by his leading of the Rosary before Sunday Mass. His faith filled heart overflowed to his family whom he adored. He was always there for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren never wanting to miss any of their birthday parties and special events if he could help it.
Survivors include his children: Carol (Leon) Thiel of Appleton, Paul Jr. (Carolyn) Kees of TX, Margie Thiel of Hilbert, Sandy (Tim) Gossens of Middleton, John (Sherry) Kees of Potter, Jean (Doug) Lindsley of Vulcan, MI, Kathy (Wayne) Eldred of Appleton, Pat (Steve) Hutchison of Newton, Don Kees of Hilbert; 25 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren with two more arriving this year; a sister-in-law: Bernita Kees; Viola's brother: Alfred "Fritz" Geiser; Viola's sister: Evelyn (Don) Konen; and Viola's sister-in-law: Lois Geiser. He was further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife: Viola; a son-in-law: Dick Thiel; a grandchild: Christopher Thiel; brothers: Francis Kees, Leonard (Ione) Kees; sisters: Sally (Max) Gehrman, Agnita (Vic) Nennig; and Viola's family: Loretta (Reuben) Keuler, Leona (Martin) Schneider, Alice Geiser, Norbert Geiser, Art (Bertha) Geiser, Al (Marie) Geiser, Arnold (Madeline) Geiser, Gerald (Shirley) Geiser, Roger Geiser, and Marcella Geiser.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at St. John Sacred Heart Church in St. John with the Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, March 3, 2014 and on Tuesday at the church form 9:30 am until 10:45 am. Vigil service will take place Monday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
