Haferbecker, Howard E.Howard E. Haferbecker, age 92, was born June 28, 1913, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to August and Agnes (Miskimmin) Haferbecker. He graduated from Applet on High School in 1932 and attended Outagamie County Normal School. Howa rd served in the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant in the Southwestern Pacific campaign during World War II. He served in New Guinea, The Philippines and other countries in the Pacific as well as serving twice in Korea and Germany. He faithfully served his country until the time of his retirement in 1967. Howard was an avid sports fan and reader. If you knew Howard, you could be assured he would give you a newspaper clipping of somethi ng that interested you.He is survived by his wife Lucille, daughter-in-law, Carolyn Haferbecke r, granddaughter, Heidi VandeVoort, cousins, nieces, nephews and many kind friends.Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Erma (Barthelmess) Haferbecker, two sons: Kenneth Haferbecker in 1969 and Harold Haferbecker in 2003 and granddaughter, Heather Smith in 2003.Visitation will be held at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton, TONIGHT Tuesday, November 29 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Services will be he ld at 6:30 with ThedaCare at Home Hospice Chaplain Jordan Kuczwara officiating.The family of Howard Haferbecker would like to give many thanks to the staff and volunteers of ThedaCare Hospice and Cherry Meadows.
