I subscribe to the Ancestry .com and am able to view census and such as well as other sites. I came across your genealogy on the Rootsweb site. Below is some info to add a little to your genealogy. I may have some questions for you later and hope we can exchange info on this line.

Family History Researcher:
From ROOTSWEB; Note: Emigrated to the US in 1842. Lived on a farm in Vermont for 7 years. Married Catherine Newcomb in NYC in 1849. She had been born about a half of a mile from the Hardy home in Ireland. In1849, Owen and Catherine traveled along the Great Lakes to Milwaukee. Owen left Catherine in Milwaukee and walked to Green Bay, where the land office was located. He bought 160 acres in the Town of Ellington. (Stephensville is in the town of Ellington.) He walked back to Milwaukee to get his wife, and they traveled by oxen to Appleton. In June 1849, the Hardys arrived on their land in Ellington. Owen and Catherine worked hard to establish their farm. Owen worked at the saw mill run by Mr. Stephens initially. It took them about five years before they had much land cleared and much farm produce to spare.John Hardy was the first child born to Owen and Catherine, and in fact was the first child of European descent to be born in the Town of Ellington. After John, the Hardys had two daughter: Mary Hardy Wittlin, and Julia Hardy Wittlin. In those early years, there was no church in the area. The Hardy home was used for years for religious services. A priest from Appleton would come out to call or at stated times.At the age of 26, John Hardy was united in marriage to Anne Ringrose of Appleton on April 23, 1878. From this union, 7girls and 5 boys were born (Katherine Hardy Phelan, John, Mary Hardy Hawley, Maurice, James, Anne Hardy Krause and her twin Margaret Hardy LaMeres, Edward and his twin Ellen (Nell) Hardy Kronschnabel, Thomas, Genevieve Hardy Kohl, and Frances.) Biography:
JOHN HARDY, the owner of one of Ellington township's excellent tracts of farming land, is a representative agriculturist of this township. He is a s on of Owen Hardy, who was born in 1813, in County Louth, Ireland, and came 'to the United States in 1842, settling first in Vermont, where he resid ed for seven years. He came to Outagamie county, Wisconsin, in 1849, settl ing in Ellington township, where he homesteaded 160 acres in the woods, t he nearest postoffice at that time being at Green Bay, thirty miles northe ast. Mr. Hardy experienced all of the hardships and privations incide nt to pioneer life, but eventually cleared up his farm and put it under cu ltivation, and he continued to operate here until his death, April 15, 189 1. Mr. Hardy married Katherine Newcomb, in New York City, she having be en born within one-half mile of Mr. Ilardy's home in Ireland, and she di ed at the age of sixty-three years, October 23, 1878. John Hardy was o ne of three children, and was born August 10, 1851, the first white chi ld born in Ellington township. He received some education in the distri ct schoolk of his neighborhood, but most of his learning was gained in t he school of hard work, starting to do his full share of the labor on t he farm as soon as he was old enough to reach the plow handles.
In..1888 when his father's health failed, Mr. Hardy took over the manageme nt of the home place, and three years later, at his father's death he beca me owner of the property. On April 30, 1877, Mr. Hardy was married to An ne Ringrose, daughter of Morris Ringrose and his wife Anne, natives of Ire land who came to the United States and settled in Appleton, where both die d, the father April 13, 1882, and the mother December 21, 1904. Mrs. Har dy was born October 10, 1855'. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy have had twelve childre n: Katherine, John, Mary, Morris, James, Anne and Margaretta, twins, Nell ie and Edward, also twins, Thomas, Genevieve and Frances. Mrs. Har dy is a member of the Catholic Church at Stephensville. For six years M r. Hardy served as a member of the town school board of Ellington town.

John Hardy, 73, first white child born in the town of Ellington, died at his home in that town Saturday morning. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning in St. Patrick church at Stephensville and interment will be in St. Patrick cemetery.
Mr. Hardy is survived by twelve children; Mrs. Catherine Phelon, Milwaukee; Mrs. James Hawley, Appleton; Mrs. John Kohl, Appleton, Mrs. M.L. Krause and Mrs. Earl La Meres, North Dakota; Mrs. George Kronschnabel, Kimberly, Edward, Thomas and Frances, Ellington; John, St. Louis; Morris, Wrightstown; James, North Dakota.
Mrs. Hardy died about five years ago.

She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and the Christian Mothers society of St. Joseph church. The body was taken from the Schommer Funeral Home to the residence at 614 E. Franklin st. Monday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 8:30 from the home, and at 9:30 from St. Patrick church, Stephensville. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery at Stephensville.

Mrs. James Hawley, 72, Route 2 A ppleton, died at 8:00 Thursday evening after a short illness. She was bo rn December 8th, 1882 in the town of Ellington. Funeral services wi ll be at 9:00 Monday morning at St. Mary Catholic Church with burial in t he parish cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 8:00 Saturday and Sund ay evenings at the Ellenbecker funeral home where friends may call after 7 :00 Saturday evening. This story by James F Hardy Jr.James F. Hardy was born on October 16, 1884 in Appleton, Wisconsin, o ne of twelve children of John Hardy and Anne Ringrose Hardy.He was very fond of his Uncle Kelly who he worked for, earning $20.00 p er month. This was his first paying job. His older brother, John Hardy, al so worked with Uncle Kelly.John was a real crack shot with a rifle. He w on several trap shoots and later became a police officer. In later yea rs he was shot to death in a cabin in Missouri. John gathered wild fowl f or large hotels in Chicago and New York.James F. Hardy tried several things in his youth. He joined the National G uards in Wisconsin, waiting until he was old enough to homestead. He w as at Camp Murray in Tacoma, Washington, during his tour of duty with t he National Guards. Often he told the story ofthe time he had guard duty at the camp gate when a high ranking officer ca me through and he put a bayonet up to the officer and yelled, "Halt". He w as quite proud of being in the National Guards.He then arrived in eastern. Montana and western North Dakota and went to w ork for the Northern Pacific railroad in Glendive, prior to homesteadin g. He told of walking up "Hungry Joe" a small mountain outside of town, wh ich was crawling with rattlesnakes. When he worked for the railroad, he d id not own a horse.That summer of 1906, he traveled back to Appleton, Wisconsin and borrow ed $1,000.00 from his mother and dad to set up homesteading. This was a gr eat deal of money at that time, probably equivalent to $100,000.00 toda y. In 1906, $10.00 would buy a suit of clothes. He came back to North Dako ta and homesteaded in Garner Township.He purchased lumber, horses and a walking hand plow. Two horses pulled t he 12 inch plow. He later had a Flying Dutchman Sulky plow, one that you r ode with three horses. We also had an Emerson Gang plow and a few Lacros se gang plows, which required six horses. The Emerson required five hors es abreast, ideal for young teamsters. He homesteaded on the S.E. quart er of Section 18, Range 138-104, Garner Township, Golden Valley, North Dak ota. Sentinel Butte was the county seat at this time. Beach, North Dako ta was only a small section of the county. Sentinel Butte was a thriving t own at that time. James Hardy worked for J. B. Stoddard on his ranch. He w as very proud of J. B. Stoddard and herded sheep for him from 1906 to 191 2, along with keeping up his own homestead. He spent $50.00 building a 1 2. x 20' home, which included lumber, doors, windows, etc. This home lat er became part of the main home he was to build. It was the kitchen ar ea of the main home. Remains of the old home are still at the Sentinel But te farm site. In the fall of 1911, he returned to Wisconsin where he renew ed his friendship with his wife to be, Mary Winifred Mailey. On Februa ry 7, 1912, he and Mary W. Mailey were married at St. Mary's Catholic Chur ch in Appleton, Wisconsin by the Reverend Fitzmaurice. This church still r emains in Appleton. Returning to Golden Valley, March 1, 1912, they enjoy ed lush crops from 1912 to 1916 and were very happy in their new found la nd with all they needed or wanted. On February 6, 1913, their first sons w ere born at the farm home, 14 miles south of the town of Sentinel Butte. T he boys were named James F. Hardy, Jr. and John Edward Hardy, later call ed "Jack". On April 14, 1914, Robert E. Hardy was born in the same home. O nly mid-wives attended during these births, possibly the doctor would st op by the next day. On December 23, 1915, Donald J. Hardy was born at t he family home. Howard W. Hardy was born May 16, 1917, also in the fami ly home. In June, 1918 the barn, home, and grainery were moved from the or iginal homesite to the SW 1/4 of Section 19. Here the Hardy family acquir ed 3 quarter sections, totaling 480 acres instead of 160. This was the beg inning of James Hardy's expansion and success story. With the help of Char lie A. Lundeen, who traded the South 1/2 of Section 19 for the Hardy's ori ginal homestead, they were able to expand. Charlie Lundeen had a great de al of land for sale; some of it was railroad land. At the new site, a ne w, huge grainery was built and the old grainery, which was hauled over fr om the homestead, was used as a work shop and to fix harnesses.We all learned a great deal watching dad, who was a perfectionist with lea ther tools and could make a complete harness. During these early days, th ey enjoyed good crops and escaped the lean year of 1916 where most had po or crops due to rust.On July 31, 1918, Maurice E. Hardy was born at the farm home. The followi ng year, 1919 was the first bad year for farming. There was a bad drough t, grasshoppers, hail, and cutworms. Mother became very disenchanted wi th everything. The land looked bad from April through the year. That yea r, dad, mom, and four boys; Jack, Jim, Bob and Maurice, took a trip ba ck to Appleton. They were considering relocating.We spent a couple of mon ths there to look over things. I can remember the trunks loaded on-the pla tform at the depot in Beach. Beach was then a thriving town. In 1919 the re were people all over the depot with wagons of freight to load on the tr ain. Today the depot still remains and the platform is still there.There was a big Hardy family reunion in Appleton when we arrived. Aunt Ne ll Hardy wasn't married then and I remember Grandpa John Hardy kidding h er about her boyfriend, George Kronschnabel. That summer was so green a nd lush in Appleton. We went to the cemetery and saw several graves of o ur relatives. Grandma Anne Ringrose Hardy died on August 1st that summe r. Uncle John Hardy had a new car and everyone seemed to be doing very wel l. The 4th of July celebration was fantastic. I have never seen larg er or more colorful fireworks since that time. Mom and dad later made up t heir minds to go back to North Dakota even though there were no trees or v egetation as in Wisconsin.(Lone Tree County was so named because a tree w as found there, so you can see how desolate it must have been.) Mother dec ided that North Dakota was probably a better place to raise childre n. We had several 50 gallon barrels of molasses out in the grainery whi ch were used to poison the grasshoppers. But the damage had already been d one, the crops were gone.
Jerry Schumaker and dad bought a machine which gathered up what little hea ds you could find of wheat but it was so short you couldn't bind or bund le it. This was the first year Jack and I worked in the field. We dro ve a header box with pretty old, well trained horses. While we were livi ng at this place, Mary and Margaret were born on April 19, 1921. I was o ut in the field on the N.E. quarter working when they were born.I remember Lena Tanisch coming up in the buggy with two horses to tell m e. Then Paul E. Hardy was born on January 28, 1923, the first of the fo ur little kids. Richard J. Hardy was born on June 14, 1924. Gerald D. Har dy was born on April 18, 1926, the year of the worst drought. Gerald was b orn in Dickinson. I can remember going to Dickinson to the hospital to s ee mom and him. Mom announced she called him Gerald David Hardy and dad sa id "WHAT?" He liked to joke with her about things like that.
Mary and Margaret were born in the telephone office in Golva. Mrs. Bert Co vert was a midwife of sorts and helped deliver the girls. When Paul was bo rn mom went to a hospital in Beach and she became deathly sick and bare ly hung on to life all summer. She had bed fever, as they diagnos ed it at that time. They felt she contacted this from uncleanliness at t he hospital. A man was severely burned in Beach, he was in the same hospit al and they were not washing the bed linen and clothing as they shoul d. It wasn't actually a hospital, but they did the best they could. Mom wa sn't sure she wanted to have any more kids in a hospital after this bru sh with death.Charles M. Hardy was born on January 29, 1928, to complete the family of t en boys and two girls. They had difficulty finding a name for Charlie as F r. Lack felt that after twelve children; at least one should be named aft er the parish priest. The parish priest's name was Michael and so Charl ie was named Charles Michael.The early 1930's brought low prices for crops and another drought. The la te 1930's and early 1940's were prosperous years after many years of sacri fice or as Jack Hardy would say: "Blood, sweat and tears."On February 8, 1951, mom died in Mesa, Arizona after suffering many yea rs from arthritis and kidney trouble. She was buried in Beach, North Dakot a. She was born in Delavan, Wisconsin on March 25, 1886. Her parents we re John Mailey (Maley) and Margaret "Hawley" Mailey. She had two brother s, Frank D. Mailey and Ed Mailey. She was a woman deeply respected by a ll and had all the qualities of a saint. Her family and community were h er first concerns and she always made sure her family was raised with go od Catholic values, sending each to religion class each week and to chur ch on Sunday.The following years, dad spent traveling to visit sons and daughters in Wa shington and California, after attending the 1964 Democratic Conventi on in Atlantic City, New Jersey, dad's health began to fail and he pass ed away on October 14, 1964. He is buried at St. John's Cemetery in Beac h, North Dakota. Dad was a man admired and respected by his family, alwa ys there with a helping hand and deeply devoted to his children and grandc hildren. He devoted much time to his community, church, family, home, Knig hts of Columbus, and as a delegate for the Democratic Party for his count y. To date, he would have had 57 grandchildren.

Miss Francis Hardy, 31, 732 W est Packard St., died at 930 Wednesday evening after a short illness. S he was born in Ellington, February 4th, 1904, and had lived in Appleton f or the last 15 years. For the last eight years she was a nurse at St. Eli zabeth Hospital and was a member of the Young Ladies sodality of St. Mary 's church. She is survived by four brothers, Maurice, of Wrightstown; Jam es, Beach, North Dakota; Edward and Thomas, of Ellington; five sisters, Mr s. James Hawley, of Greenville; Mrs. Matt Krause, Mrs. Earl Lamers, Sentin el Butte, North Dakota, Mrs. George Kronschnabel, Mrs. Genevieve Koh l, of Appleton. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 Saturday morning fr om the home of Mrs. James Hawley, Route 2 Appleton; and at 9:00 at St. Mar y's church. Burial will be in the St. Mary's cemetery, Appleton. The bo dy will be at the Wichmann Funeral home from this evening until Friday mor ning when it will be taken to the home of Mrs. Haley. The Young Ladies so dality will pray the rosary at 7:30 this evening at the funeral home a nd a prayer hour will also be held at 8:00 Friday evening at Mrs. Hawley 's home.

She taught Math and English to seven th and eighth graders in Sheboygan for 30 years, retiring about 20 years a go. She was a member of the Wisconsin Teachers Association and the Irish H istory Club. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mamie Werner of Milwauk ee and Mrs. Lucy Wolf of Covina, California. She taught school in Duluth, Minnesota and Outagamie County and moved to Covina, California in 1953. She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. Survivors are her son Burtard Wolf of Covina; a sister Mamie Werner of Milwaukee; and three nieces. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Laemmrich Funeral Home with internment in St. Mary Cemetery in Appleton. The Rev. Louis Prefontaine will officiate.

Age 83, died unexpectedly Friday morning. He was born February 19, 1893 in the Town of Center and resided there his entire lifetime. He married Elizabeth Dorn May 21, 1918. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Men's Club of the Church, and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Mr. Wittlin is survived by his wife, four daughters Mrs. Cyril (Evelyn) Baumann, Mrs. Gene (Marce) Paltzer, Mrs. Ernest (Betty) Paltzer, and Mrs. Harley (Marilyn) Nielsen, all of Appleton, two sons, Clarence, Hortonville, and Gerald, Black Creek, a Brother, Bert, Black Creek, 32 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. Jerome V. Hardy Funeral services for Jerome V. Hardy, 44, of 2320 S. 17th St., killed the past Friday night when his semi-trailer truck overturned during a storm in Waushara County, were held Tuesday morning at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, following brief family rites at the Ramm Funeral Home. Celebrant of the requiem mass was the Rev. Robert M. Hoeller, pastor. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers, all fellow ushers of Mr. Hardy at St. Peter Claver, included Louis Stieber, Walter Brotz, Wilbur Pantel, Sylvester Grott, Eugene Trester and William Ziegler. Monday evening vigils were held at the funeral home by members of the Holy Name Society and Ushers Club, with Father Hoeller leading the prayers. Earlier in the day the rosary was recited by Boy Scouts, altar boys and other children of the parish, with the Rev. Joseph M. Wanner, curate, and Sisters of St. Agnes leading the prayers.

Gerend, Kathryn A. (Neuman)
Kathryn A. Gerend, age 85, a Manitowoc resident, died Sunday afternoon, October 1, 2006, at Harbor House, Manitowoc. She was born December 17, 1920, in Wrightstown, daughter of the late Maurice and Alma (Ristau) Hardy. Kathryn was a graduate of Wrightstown High School, Class of 1939. She married Thomas Neuman on June 28, 1941, in Wrightstown.
He preceded her in death in 1970. Kathryn then married Herbert Gerend on March 27, 1993, in Appleton. Kathryn assisted as a bookkeeper with the family owned service station for many years. She was a swimming instructor with the YMCA and was employed with Lawrence University as a secretary to the Dean.
Kathryn was a member of the Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers of Appleton and a member of St. Francis of Assisi, Manitowoc. Her interests include competitive ballroom dancing, singing, fishing, down hill and cross country skiing. She was a member of the Toastmistress Club, Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader and was an avid high school basketball and Packer fan.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert "Hub" Gerend, Manitowoc; a daughter and son-in-law, Alison (Candy) and Mark Christenson, Manitowoc; four sons and daughters-in-law: Paul Neuman, Brussels; Mike and LaVonne Neuman, Madison; Patrick and Judy Neuman, Minnesota; and Thomas Neuman, Minnesota.
Also surviving are five step children: Susan (Tom) Buxton; JoAnn (John) Reichwald; Mike (Susan) Gerend; William (Ann) Gerend; David (Cindy) Gerend; ten grandchildren: Troy, Tracy and Lucas Christenson; Sara McLoed and her husband, Jason; Liz Neuman; Dan (Tammy), Nick and Tim Neuman; Julie and Emmy Neuman; one great-grand-daughter, Abby; and eight step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers: Charles, William, Jerome, Eugene, Thomas and Maurice.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2006, at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand (South 14th & Grand Avenue), Manitowoc. Officiating at the Memorial Service will be the Rev. Jim Vanden Hogen. Cremation has occurred with burial of the cremated remains at St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton, at a later date. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2006, at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc, until the time of service at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Kathryn's Name.
Kathryn will be remembered for her kindness to everyone, a sense of humor and her beautiful voice.

He was born July 13, 1927 in Wrightstown, son of the late Maurice and Alma (Ristau) Hardy. Tom served his country in World War II, having served under Gen. MacArthur's Honor Guard from 1945 to 1947. He was employed at Kimberly-Clark (Midtec) for 38 1/2 years, retiring in 1988. Tom was a drummer in LeRoy's Dutch Boys Orchestra from 1948 to 1975 and had played in the Rhythm Kings and the Little Chute Band from 1960 to 1966. He was also the Little Chute Drum and Bugle Corps instructor from 1960 to 1966. He loved traveling, hunting and was known as a "Mr. Fix-it." He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Kimberly-Clark Quarter Century Club. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Connie (Schommer), Kaukauna; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cindy Milquet of Crivitz and Lori (Brian) Mattison of Kimberly; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Randy (fiancee Kim Schmitt) of Kaukauna, Steve (Brenda) of Appleton and Jerry (Michelle) of Crivitz; 10 grandchildren, Jesse and Tyler Milquet; Nicole and Rachelle Mattison; Trisha Hardy; Kristine, Bonnie and Michael Hardy, and Jeremy and Jordan Hardy; one sister, Katherine ("Hub") Gerend, Kaukauna, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Thomas and Danny Joseph; five brothers, William, Eugene, Charles, Jerry and Maurice (his twin brother). Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with Father John Hephner officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna and Tuesday at the Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the cortege leaves for the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the American Heart Association.

Maurice J. Hardy, 60, 1024 S. Erie St., De Pere, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, May 31, 1988 at a local hospital. The son of the late Maurice E. and Alma (Ristau) Hardy was born July 13, 1927 in Wrightstown. He had served in the Armed Services from 1949 to 1952 in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hardy and the former Audrey Pahl were married Feb. 20, 1954 in Green Bay. He had worked at Paper Converting for 13 years; had owned and operated a resort in Crivitz for 15 years, retiring three years ago; and was managing an apartment complex in De Pere for the last three years. He was a member of the American Legions of Loomis, a former member of the Ashwaubenon Fire Department, and a member of the Retired Ashwaubenon Fire Department. He was also a member of St. Mary Church Education Committee, De Pere, and a member of the De Pere Community Band. Willard Hawley, age 87, of Appleton, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Brewster Village. Willard was born in Appleton on June 14, 1925 to the late James E. and Mary Ellen (Hardy) Hawley. On April 29, 1953, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Keating. The couple enjoyed over 40 years together until her death in 1994. Willard worked as an engineer at Neenah High School for many years, retiring in 1981. Willard enjoyed singing in the Barber Shop Choir and was a member of the Greenville Bachelors Club, St. Bernard Choir, and St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom. Willard loved golfing, bowling, gardening, woodworking, and playing cribbage - once having a perfect hand

BEACH -- Howard Hardy, 83, Beach, died July 18, 2000 in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Beach.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. MDT Friday at St. John's Catholic Church, Beach, and on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
Howard was born on May 26, 1917 to James F. and Mary W. Hardy in Garner Township, Golden Valley County, N.D. Howard and Kathryn Gilman were married on Oct. 26, 1938 in Bismarck. Howard worked for Gerard Mugglie in the Gamble Store from 1936-1939, then Gilman Oil Company and Beacon Oil from 1939 to 1942. Howard and Kathryn started farming in 1942.
Howard helped organize and was one of the first supervisors of the Golden Valley Soil Conservation District, serving from 1948 to 1954. He was a member of the Beach School Board. He served as President of the Board from 1955 to 1960, and again from 1966 to 1972. During the time Howard was on the Board, the new grade school and high school were built.
Howard helped organize and was the first president of the Golden Valley County Farm Bureau, serving from 1955 to 1959. He was also a member of the Beach Co-op Grain Company Board from 1958 to 1962.
In 1956, Howard was appointed to a 10-man Agriculture Advisory Committee to the National Republican Party. He was then appointed to the North Dakota Wheat Commission in 1959 and served until 1961.
The next few years took the Hardy's from Beach to Garden City, Kan. where Howard joined the staff of Great Plains Wheat, Inc., now known as U.S. Wheat Associates with 17 offices worldwide. In 1961, he was elected Vice-President and in 1963, was elected President of Great Plains Wheat Inc. He held this position until 1966, when he resigned to return to full time farming at Beach. While Howard was with Great Plains Wheat, he traveled to Europe, South America, Japan, Korea, China, and the Philippines to promote the sale of wheat. Howard was instrumental in promoting the U.S. Food for Peace program and was one of the first supporters of the sale of wheat to Russia and China.
Howard was a member of the Board of Directors of St. John's Catholic Church from 1939-1961 and again in 1973. He also served as Director of the Home on the Range for Boys at Sentinel Butte for many years. Howard was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus of Beach. He served as Grand Knight from 1950-1953, State Deputy of North Dakota from 1954-55 and North Dakota State Master of 4th Degree of Knights of Columbus from 1956-58.
In addition to serving as Mayor of Beach, Howard received many awards: Goodyear Soil Conservation Supervisor Award, District Supervisor Award, Achievement and Service Award from Great Plains Wheat, Service Award from North Dakota Wheat Commission, a recognition and appreciation award from Felica Community, Lima, Peru, South America. Howard and Kathryn received the Agriculture Award from North Dakota State University in 1974.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Donald J.) Matejcek, Bismarck, Albert J. (Pat) Hardy, Dickinson, H. Michael (Marcia) Hardy, Fargo, Dennis (Janice) Hardy, Kingman, Ariz., Maurice (Loann) Hardy, Beach; daughter-in-law, Vickie (Jerry) Hardy, Fargo; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Dr. Paul (Lois) Hardy, Mercer Island, Wash., Gerald (Donna) Hardy, Santa Rosa, Calif., Charles (Vicky) Hardy, Beach; and his sisters, Mary Muggli, Tacoma, Wash., and Margaret Marman, Bismarck.

Charles married Victoria Eve Bruski on June 6, 1950 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach. Charles and Victoria made their home on a farm southwest of Beach. After retiring in 1988 they continued to live on the family farm until 2006 when they moved to Beach where they currently reside. He was an active charter member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus and many other community organizations.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Hardy; eight brothers, Jim Hardy, Jack Hardy, Robert Hardy, Don Hardy, Howard Hardy, Maurice Hardy, Richard Hardy and Gerald Hardy; one sister, Margaret Marmon; one grandson, Matthew Hardy and one son-in-law, Bill Kuntz.

She served in the US Navy during WWII and met Cornelius (Casey) Hermus on the train returning home from the war. They were married at St. Mary Catholic Church in Menasha, Wisconsin on September 27, 1947.

Frank Hardy, age 88 of Hortonville, died peacefully Tuesday morning, September 27, 2011, at Rennes Health and Rehabilitation in Appleton, WI.
He was born on October 28, 1922, on the Hardy Homestead in the Township of Ellington, son of the late Thomas and Cecelia (Klatt) Hardy.
Frank enlisted in the U.S. Military shortly after the Pearl Harbor bombing. He proudly served as a tech sergeant in the 101st Division, Airborne Paratroopers. Frank was honorably discharged in February of 1946.
On June 29, 1948, he was united in marriage to Celestine "Sally" Griesbach. They farmed together in Outagamie County and raised their six children there. Frank often stated that the two things he was most proud of were that he married Sally Griesbach and served his country.
Frank is survived by his children, Mary Lou (Ron) Breunig of Prarie du Sac; Kate Hardy (Tim Davis) of Fitchburg; Kathy Gelinas of Kalispel, MT; Bob (Penny) Hardy of Columbia Falls, MT; John (Wendy) Hardy of Hortonville; and Bernadette (Gary) Bomber of Mackville; daughter-in-law, Kathy Galinas, Kalispel, MT; 11 grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sister, Janette; and sister-in-law, Ione.
He was preceded in death by his "true love," Sally, wife and loving partner of 60 years; son, Bill; parents; sisters, Geraldine, Maxine, Pat, and Cecelia; brother, Norbert, Owen, and Thomas.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Frank will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, N2385 Municipal Dr., Greenville, with Fr. Mark Vander Steeg and Fr. Justin Werner officiating. Family and friends may call directly at church Friday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. William "Pete" Kohl of Elkhart Lake, passed away Oct. 26, 2004. He had be en a part time resident of Green Valley, Ariz. for the past 24 years.Pete was born in Appleton on Nov. 26, 1923, the son of John O. Kohl and Ge nevieve Hardy. He was a veteran of World War II and served in Japan whe re he met his wife, Susan.Mr. Kohl was the instrumental founder of Plyco Corporation of Elkhart La ke in 1954. He most recently served as its Chairman.Pete was an active member of the National Frame Builders Association whe re his innovations made a significant contribution to the post-frame indus try. He was inducted into the Rural Builder Hall of Fame in 1986.He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Elkhart Lake, as well as a d irector of the Bank of Elkhart Lake for many years. He was very acti ve in the community and golf activities in Elkhart Lake.Pete and his wife were the founders of the Kohl Family Foundation Trust th at provides for many charities in the Elkhart Lake and Green Valley area s. Projects they were involved in included the Green Valley Library, Elkha rt Lake School District, Elkhart Lake First Responders and Fire Departmen t. He was the Philanthropist of the Year in Green Valley in 2000.Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Garner of Tucson and Patty (Chuc k) Crauswell of Birmingham, Ala.; two grandsons, Todd Wimer of Boston a nd Trent Crauswell of Birmingham, Ala. Pete was preceded in death by his w ife, Susan.

Clarence Wittlin, age 90, of Black Creek, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Monday, January 26, 2015. Clarence was born to the late Edward and Cecilia (Deacy) Wittlin on October 28, 1924. He graduated from Appleton West high school and joined the Army where he served his Country. Clarence was united in marriage to the late Beatrice Alsteen in 1954.
Clarence enjoyed spending time outside on the farm, where he made his living in dairy and grain. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. He also had a passion for anything that had to deal with country and western. One of his greatest passions was that of horse riding. He owned many horses throughout his life and never lost his love for them.
Clarence is survived by his children: Denice (Rick) Lorenz, Greenville; William "Bill" Wittlin, Black Creek; Rita Nuttall, Atlanta, Georgia; Ann Wittlin, Boston, Massachusetts; and Michael Wittlin, Black Creek; Three grand-children: Jared and Brittany Nuttall; and Jonathon Lorenz; and nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Clarence is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Raymond (Lila) Wittlin, and a sister Rita Wittlin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC COMMUNITY - STEPHENSVILLE, N3686 State Road 76, Hortonville. Friends may call from 9:30 until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Clarence's name.

Raymond Wittlin, age 85, of the Town of Center, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2014 at his cabin. He was born on April 27, 1929, in Black Creek, to the late Edward and Cecilia (Deacy) Wittlin. Raymond served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On January 25, 1964, he married Lila Woldt at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greenville. Raymond worked as a mechanic at Tusler Pontiac. He enjoyed farming on the family farm and spending time at their cabin on Pelican Lake. Raymond was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Mackville.
Raymond is survived by his son Joseph C. Wittlin of Black Creek; brother Clarence Wittlin of Black Creek and brother-in-law Herman Woldt, Jr. of Little Chute. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife Lila Wittlin, a sister Rita Wittlin; brothers-in-law: Kenneth Woldt, Oscar (Bertha) Woldt, Gordon (Margaret) Woldt, Les (Lois) Woldt, and Melvin Woldt; and sisters-in-law: Anita (Peter) Berg, Beatrice Wittlin, and Imelda Woldt.
The funeral liturgy for Raymond will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at ST. EDWARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, Highway 47 North in Mackville. Fr. Walter Stumpf will be officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the Wichmann Funeral Home downtown chapel, 537 N. Superior Street, Appleton, on Wednesday from 5:00 pm until the parish prayer service at 7:00 pm, and at the church on Thursday from 11:00 am until the time of mass. Clarice Ann Bessett "Puttie," 84, Appleton, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side, Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Clarice was born June 6, 1926, in the Town of Center to the late Albert and Celia (Day) Wittlin. She married Vernerd Bessett on May 14, 1947, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Stephensville. Puttie was a life long member of the "Die Hard Cub's" fan club as well as an avid Packers and NASCAR fan. Jeff Gordon was her favorite driver. She enjoyed Country music and Irish tenor, Danny O'Donnell. She was also an avid gardener with beautiful rose bushes.

Age 93 Years, died Friday April 1, 2016, at Rennes Health and Rehabilitation. Marcie was born on June 12, 1922, in the Town of Center, WI to the late Erwin and Elizabeth (nee Dorn) Wittlin. She married Eugene Paltzer on November 25, 1943 in Appleton. Marcie was a member of the Ladies of St. Thomas More, Appleton Medical Center Auxiliary, and for many years worked at Pranges, Gimbles, and Marshall Field department stores. She is survived by her daughter Susan Geroux; her son Tim (Mary Jo) Paltzer; her son, Dan (Pat) Paltzer, her son, Greg (Barb) Paltzer; her daughter, Cindy (Andy) Andrews; her grandchildren, Scott (Susan) Geroux; Paul (Jill) Geroux; Shawn (George) Swiechowski; Sara (Tony) Sprangers; Shane Paltzer; Heather (Scott) Kirch; Jesse (Angie) Paltzer; Jason (Amanda) Paltzer; Jaret (Jennifer) Paltzer, Nick (Mandy) Paltzer; Adam (Jenny) Paltzer; Justin (Brandi) Andrews; and Kevin (Elyse) Andrews; her 28 great-grandchildren; sister Betty (the late Ernie) Paltzer; brother Jerry (Winefred) Wittlin; many nieces and nephews.

Paltzer, Elizabeth A. "Betty" They say, once a mother, always a mother, she never stops worrying, even when her children are grown and have their own children. So, you can imagine the countless prayers this devout Catholic matriarch has said over 71 years of "motherhood," which have encompassed six children, 14 grandchildren and 9 great-children. These solemn requests for help - and, later, expressions of thanks - to God on our behalf, filled years of time, not a minute of which she would have ever wanted back.
With her strong belief in the Lord and fine example as a selfless, unassuming child of God, we have no doubt that she was received into the loving arms of Jesus - the true reward of a faith-filled life well-lived - as soon as she took her last breath on Wednesday evening, March 8, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born on Monday, June 25, 1923, in Black Creek, WI. (A fitting day of the week, for the hard-working woman she became.) Her loving parents, Erwin and Elizabeth (Dorn) Wittlin, were her primary role models for learning the virtues by which she lived her life. She treasured her wholesome upbringing on the farm, which she shared with her five beloved siblings: Evelyn, Clarence, Marcella, Gerald and Marilyn.
On May 27, 1944, Betty married her first love, Ernest "Bud" Paltzer. She also warmly embraced her widowed mother-in-law, Margaret (Nienhaus) Paltzer, who lived on the farm with her only son. Together, they raised six children: Ernest Paltzer, Jr., Kurt (Karla) Paltzer, Gretchen (Mark) Brann, Pamela (Rod) Reynolds, Peter Paltzer and Jacqueline (Randy) Peters. She had tremendous pride in each of them.
As a family, they worked on the dairy farm, which later became a produce farm, Sun Valley Farm, and included a vegetable stand called The Market Basket. Betty was often found in the "tomato factory" polishing freshly picked tomatoes for presentation to customers and grocery stores. Despite the busy days spent planting, weeding, harvesting and cleaning the wide variety of vegetables, Betty always found time to prepare three meals a day, including full "meat and potato" dinners of German tradition. She also enjoyed making pies and other desserts, cleaning, and hosting and attending card parties.
Betty is also survived by her dear grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jill Berg and her sons, Brandon and Daniel; Michael Paltzer; Robin (Scott) Mooren and their children, Nicole and Thomas; Russ Paltzer; Erin (Jeff) Verhagen and their children, Mason, Ellison and Claire; Jody (Kris) Gutnecht; Sarah, William and Alison Brann; Kaitlin (Ivan) Burkatskyi and her son Keegan; Johnny Reynolds and his daughter, Olivia; and Nathan, Lauren and Meghan Peters. She is further survived by her brother, Gerald (Winifred) Wittlin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; mother-in-law; husband, Ernest; daughters-in-law, Sally Paltzer and Polly Anne Paltzer; siblings and their spouses, Evelyn and Cyril Baumann, Clarence and Glenna Wittlin, Marcella and Eugene Paltzer, and Marilyn and Harley Nielsen.
A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. at Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, 606 S. Oneida St., Appleton, on Sunday, March 12, 2017.
Mass will take place at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald St., Appleton, on Monday, March 13, 2017, with Rev. Gerald Falk officiating. The family will also receive friends at Church on Monday from 9:30am until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Her family is thankful for Betty's fine example of faith, hard work, devotion to family, selflessness, unconditional love and quiet observation.

Clarence was born on Oc tober 22, 1925 in Appleton, son of the late Erwin and Elizabeth (Dorn) Wit tlin. On May 20, 1948 Clarence was united in marriage to Glenna Grossm an in Mackville. He lived & farmed in the Township of Ellington for mo st of his life. Clarence also worked for several years as a plumber, Fox T ractor and then at Hortonville Wire Products until his retirement in 199 0. Hoffman, Floss V., (Phelan) K imberlyAge 74, passed away at her home on October 3, 2003. She was born Floren ce Phelan in the town of Ellington on October 6, 1928, daughter of the la te John and Florence (Wall) Phelan. On November 22, 1949, she married Elm er Hoffman in Kimberly. They enjoyed 53 wonderful years together. Floss wo rked at the Kimberly Public Library for many years, volunteered at the E AA and the Grand Theater in Oshkosh. Meeting her morning breakfast cl ub at McDonald's, was a highpoint of her day. Floss enjoyed being with peo ple and reading the newspaper.Floss is survived by her husband Elmer, her daughters: Susan Hoffman (Mich ael Meyers) of New Berlin and Ann Kaseno (Greg) of Green Bay; her favori te grandson, Thomas Meyers, and her favorite granddaughter Kathryn Kasen o. Molitor, Donna M. 73, of Sheboygan passed away on July 14, 2012 at Sunny Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Donna was born on August 31, 1938, when her family lived in Wrightstown. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Hardy, stepfather, Adolf Fale, and mother, Loraine (Hardy) Fale.
Donna graduated from Sheboygan Central High School. Her love of music inspired her to play in her high school band, and sing in the church choir. Donna's years of knitting and crocheting produced personalized Christmas stockings, afghans, sweaters, and mittens. Newborn babies sported caps and booties which were lovingly created by Donna. Donna touched the hearts of many through her roles as mother, sister, friend, and volunteer.
Donna was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church.
Donna is survived by her four sons, Jerome (Linda) Molitor of Belgium, Kenneth (Lori) Molitor of Sheboygan, Peter Molitor of Sheboygan and Joseph (Mary-Beth) Molitor of Kiel; eight grandchildren and a great granddaughter: Jennifer (Nicholas) Whitford and their daughter, Eowyn of Sheboygan, Paul (Laura) Molitor of Fredonia, Pasha Molitor, Serjey Molitor, Matthew Molitor and Morgan Molitor all of Sheboygan, Marissa Molitor and Benjamin Molitor both of Kiel. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Joann (August) Schmidt of Sheboygan, Thomas (Betty) Hardy of Cleveland, Richard (Terese) Hardy of West Bend, and Mary (Robert) Conto of Sheboygan, and other stepbrothers and stepsisters.
A Memorial Mass for Donna will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Cerpich as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Anne L. Erickson, Weyauwega, age 48, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 15, 2007, following a short illness. Anne was born March 2, 1959, in New London, the daughter of the late George and Anne (Hawley) Cooney. She married Tim Erickson on July 25, 1981. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2007.
Anne is survived by her daughter Jamie, New London and a son Jason, Weyauwega. She is further survived by a brother Terry Cooney, New London; four sisters: Jeanne Wolfe, Lakewood; Ellen (Jim) Clarke and Mary (Scott) Hanadel, New London; Susan (Dennis) Huss, Kimberly; mother-in-law and father-in-law Bob and Lillian Erickson, New London and also numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Anne was preceded in death by brother-in-law Larry Wolfe in September 2007.

Mary Kay (nee Hawley) Sadowski, Appleton, age 51, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 4, 2008, at her home in Appleton. Mary Kay was born April 8, 1957, in Antigo, WI, to the late James E. and Mary Ann (Maney) Hawley. She lived in Appleton for the past 15 years. Mary Kay worked as a computer analyst for over 25 years. Some of the places she worked for were, Cap Gemini America, Dean Foods, Menasha Corp., CompuMasters Corp., Plexus and Banta. She loved the Packers, and enjoyed golfing and bowling. She adored her dogs Buffy, Mickey, Sammy, Mindy, Mork and Nanu.
