Biography:
ERNST HARP, farmer and carpenter of Freedom township, Outagamie county, is a native of Germany, born October 1, 1845, son of Christof Harp. During his youth he received a somewhat limited education, and subsequently worked with his father, with whom he remained while in Germany. In the spring of 1864 he was married to Miss Matilda Steingross, and one child was born to them in Germany, August, who died while en route to the United States.

In 1866 the family came to America (Mr. Harp borrowing money to bring his parents), the voyage from Hamburg to New York occupying six weeks, and coming directly to Milwaukee, by rail and water, remained there for some time, our subject finding employment as clerk in a hardware store. Later he worked on the railroad two years, one year on a gravel train, and during this time managed to pay the one hundred and fifty dollars he had borrowed. Commencing to learn the trade of carpenter, he acquired a thorough knowledge of it, and found plenty of work in that line, afterward taking contracts on his own account, and continuing in that business until 1887, when he took up farming. He removed to Section 19, Freedom township, Outagamie county, and bought eighty acres of new land, for which he paid two thousand one hundred and fifty dollars. At that time the farm contained no buildings or other improvements, and was covered with brush and stumps, and the many improvements and substantial buildings which now beautify the place are all the work of his hands. This has necessarily involved a great deal of hard work, but the result has been more than satisfactory. Since coming to Freedom township Mr. Harp has also been engaged to some extent at carpentry, and has always given satisfaction as a mechanic.

To Mr. and Mrs. Harp were born children as follows: August, mentioned above; Wilhelmina, Mrs. Gustav Janke, of Milwaukee; Albertine, Mrs. William Nieland, of Freedom; Annie, Mrs. Albert Luebke, of Grand Chute; William, a farmer of Freedom township; Charles, a carpenter, and Ernst, Jr., at home. In religious connection Mr. Harp is a member of St. Peter's Church, of which he is now secretary. While in Milwaukee he served as treasurer of the church with which he was identified, which had a membership of 500. In politics he is a Republican, but not active in party affairs, preferring to give his undivided attention to his farming and other interests, in which he has met with well-merited success. He is highly respected as a substantial progressive citizen by all who know him.

Biography:
AUGUST WUNDROW, who has spent his entire life on the farm which he now operates, a tract of 127 acres situated on sections 26, 27 and 33, Buchanan township, has been prominently identified with the agricultural and public interests of this district for a number of years. Mr. Wundrow was born on this property, December 19, 1870, and is a son of Frederick and Johanna (Harp) Wundrow, natives of the Fatherland, who were married in Germany and came to America shortly thereafter, settling first in New York. They came to Wisconsin before the outbreak of the Civil War, Mr. Wundrow's first wife dying in Menasha, in which city he was again married. After his second marriage, Mr. Wundrow came to Outagamie county, and bought seventytwo acres of land, a part of the property that is now being operated by his son August, at that time all wild land. He had to cut down trees and hew logs to build his first log home, a structure 18x24 feet, and here he resided until his death, November 30, 1904, aged seventy-three years, at which time he had a farm of eighty acres in a high state of cultivation. Mrs. Wundrow died August 27, 1907, aged seventy-six years and both were buried in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. There were eight children born to Frederick and Johanna (Harp) Wundrow, and August was the seventh in order of birth. He has always resided on the home property, and after the death of his father purchased the interests of the other heirs. He was married November 18, 1896, to Miss Louisa Hupfauf, who was born February 24, 1878, the eldest of the four children of George and Julia (Roglar) Hupfauf, natives of Germany who came to America in early life and were married in Calumet county, where Mr. Hupfauf still resides. Mrs. Wundrow died December 25, 1902, and is buried at Riverside cemetery, having been the mother of three children: Arthur, Walter and Elsie, the latter of whom died in childhood. On July 13, 1904, Mr. Wundrow was married (second) to Miss Mary Gergs, born June 16, 1884, in Chicago, Illinois, the sixth of the eight children born to John and Matilda (Frause) Gergs, natives of Germany. They were married in the Fatherland and first emigrated to London, but after five years there came to the United States and located in Chicago. They came thence to Marshfield, Wisconsin, when Mrs. Wundrow was but a child, and they still reside at that place, Mr. Gergs being sixtythree years of age and his wife fifty-seven. Three children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Wundrow: Adela, Harvey and Elsie. Mr. Wundrow has all but five acres of his land under cultivation, and it is all fenced by barbed and woven wire. He carries on general farming and stock raising, markets dairy, products, cattle and some grain, and milks ten graded Short Horn and Guernsey cows. He keeps Poland-China hogs and breeds to Belgian horses, having an interest in the Belgian stud. His barn is 34x56 feet, and was built in 1875 and remodeled in 1911, when a basement was added and patent stanchions were put in. Another barn, 32x44 feet, was built in 1880, and the residence, a frame, two-story structure of nine rooms, in 1882. His water supply is secured from drilled wells. In politics, Mr. Wundrow is a Republican, and for four years he has been a member of the board of supervisors, as well as having been a member of the school board for six years. The family religious connection is with the Zion Lutheran Church of Appleton.

Mrs. Emma L. Puls, 83, long-time resident of Shiocton, died at 8:46 Monday night in New London after a long illness. She was born in Milwaukee on Oct. 25, 1874.
Funeral services will be at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at First Lutheran church, Shiocton, with burial in Highland Memorial park, Appleton. Friends may call at the Sawyer Funeral home, Shiocton, until noon Wednesday and then at the church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mamie Emerich, Hortonville, and Mrs. Wilbur Levezow, Appleton; one son, Elmer, Milwaukee; two brothers, Emil and Ernest Springstroh, both of Appleton; one sister, Mrs. Robert Plamann, Appleton; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren." 11/12/1957 Appleton Post Crescent page 36

Edward Springstroh 79, 1022 N. Union St. died at 6 o'clock Saturday evening after a short illness. He was born Sept. 28, 876 in the Town of Freedom and lived there until moving to Appleton in 1927. Funeral Services will be held at 2 o'clock Wed. afternoon at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Freedom,with burial in the parish cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Edward Kubitz and Mrs. Erwin Frahm both of Appleton, one son, Alfred, Town of Freedom, three brothers, Albert, Town of Freedom, Emil and Ernest, both of Appleton. Two sisters, Mrs Emma Puls, Shiocton, and Mrs Robert Plamann, Grand Chute. Eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Adela M. Heidemann, Appleton, age 102, died on Thursday, September 18, 2008, with her family by her side. Adela was born on December 1, 1905, in the Town of Buchanan, daughter of the late August and Mary (Gergs) Wundrow. She married Bernard Heidemann on November 21, 1933. They were married for 66 years before Bernard died in 1999. Adela was a charter member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and Riverside Cemetery in Appleton. Church was very important to Adela. One of her favorite hobbies was playing the organ by ear for members of her family.
Adela is survived by her brother, Clarence (Ethel) Wundrow, Town of Buchanan; her sister, Hazel Norman, Appleton; and her sister-in-law, Myrtle Wundrow, Little Chute. She is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Adela was preceded in death by her brothers: Harvey, Elmer, Ray, Arthur, Walter and Leonard Wundrow and an infant brother Robert. She was also preceded by her brother-in-law, Lawrence Norman.
Funeral services for Adela will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2008, at OUR SAVIOUR'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3009 N. Meade Street, Appleton, with Rev. Beth Macha officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 12 noon until the time of services. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.

Clarence H. Wundrow, age 95, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday April 6, 2013 at St. Paul Villa. Clarence was born January 28, 1918 in the Town of Buchanan, Outagamie County, State of Wisconsin, the 3rd son of the late August and Mary (Gergs) Wundrow. He was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Olive Church in Appleton. Clarence married Ethel Hickinbotham on June 1, 1941, enjoying 70 years of marriage. They lived in the Town of Buchanan their entire married lives until retiring to the St. Paul Villa in Kaukauna in 2008. Clarence joined the Wisconsin National Guard in 1937, and was inducted into the US Army in 1940. Clarence was a full time dairy farmer until 1967. He then worked at Badger Northland in Kaukauna, retiring in 1980. Clarence was an intelligent and talented man, possessing wonderful people skills and he used all of these gifts during his lifetime in a variety of activities. He was a sub-mail carrier in Route #4 of Appleton, serving in this until 1968, after 32 years. He was elected Town Clerk of Buchanan in 1957, serving for 32 years, retiring in 1989. He was assessor for the Town of Buchanan for 6 years and Commissioner of the Darboy Joint Sanitary District for 25 years, retiring in 1997. Clarence was a charter member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Kimberly from 1937, serving in many capacities of the congregation.
He is survived by his two daughters, Karen Briggs (Larry Stanton) and Kay (Horst) Klemm and his three sons, Ken (Debi Shepherd-Wundrow), Keith (Ann) and Kevin (Cindy); his sister, Hazel Norman; a sister-in-law, Janet Milbauer; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Ethel; a son, Karl; his half-brothers and sister, Arthur (Gladys), Walter (Irene) and Elsie; his brothers and sisters, Adela (Ben) Heideman, Harvey (Hilda), Elsie (Harry)Warren, Ray (Della), Elmer (Harriet), Robert and Leonard (Myrtle).
Clarence will be remembered as a man who loved to talk with everyone and always had a story to share. He loved his pond at the house, spending many hours keeping it in order. But he enjoyed the fruits of that labor with a catch or two for lunch. His family, though, was the joy of his life. He loved the visits and phone calls, keeping him entertained with the stories of their lives. He will also be remembered as a man who lovingly took care of his wife during the last years of her life.
Funeral services for Clarence will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday April 20, 2013 at Mt Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church, N8728 Coop Rd., Menasha with Pastor Jesse Johnston officiating. Wundrow, Wilbert Len Little Chute Age 78, died peacefully Monday, May 6, 2002 with his family by his side. Wilbert was born May 1, 1924 in Appleton son of the late August and Mary (Gergs) Wundrow. He married Myrtle Lamers, July 2, 1946 at St. John's Catholic Church, Little Chute. He was a Veteran of World War II and belonged to Jacob Coppus American Legion, Post 258, Little Chute. He was a lifetime member at Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kimberly. He also belonged to the Golden Agers and the Cribbage Club at Carl's in Little Chute. He loved animals, gardening, and spending time around the pit fire at the cottage. He was a collector of "loose change" and cans. He would use his new found wealth by taking his family out to eat. Wilbert is survived by his wife, Myrtle three children: Cheryl (Gary) Klika, Lea Ann (Daniel) Coppus, Dale (Kim) Wundrow, all of Little Chute nine grandchildren: Chad and fiancee Janel, Gary (Julie) and Melanni Klika Jason and special friend Amy, Stacy and Scott Coppus Nicole, Stephanie and Tyler Wundrow a brother, Clarence (Ethyl) Wundrow two sisters: Adela Hiedemann and Hazel (Larry) Norman brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Marion Piepkorn, Robert (Elizabeth) Lamers, Gladys (Mark) Hietpas, Rose (Mike) Ebben, Pat (Lloyd) Vande Hey, Bev (Charles) Goodman also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents brothers and sisters: Walter (Irene), Arthur (Gladys), Harvey (Hilda), Raymond (Della), Elmer (Harriet), and Robert Wundrow Elsie (Harry) Warren brother-in-law, Ben Hiedemann and sister-in-law, Milton Piepkorn.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kimberly with Rev. Virgil Hanson officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may call at the church from 3:00 p.m. Wednesday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

Obituary:
Orville W. Luebke, age 91, Appleton, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at his residence. He was born March 15, 1916, in Freedom, to the late Albert and Ana (Harp) Luebke. Orville married Marion Wiedenhaupt on February 22, 1936, at Trinity Lutheran church in Kaukauna, and she preceded him in death in 1993. He farmed in Freedom until 1945, and then moved to Appleton. Orville was employed with Appleton Papers until his retirement in 1980, where he was a member of the Appleton Papers' Quarter Century Club. He was also a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Freedom.
He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Beck and her friend Budd Thies, both of Appleton; son, Robert (Corrine) Luebke, Loudon, TN; Orville's special friend, Phyllis Zimmerman; step-granddaughter, Debra Beck-Paulina; sister, Leona Ponchock, Arizona; and sister-in-law, Verona Luebke, Appleton. He is further survived by many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers, five sisters and son-in-law, Ronald Beck.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007, at the Valley Funeral Home, with Rev. Ronald Ash officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday also at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established.

Evelyn Emma Lillge, 83, Appleton, has gone to be with her Lord and husband in heaven on Sunday, March 18, 2007. She was born July 27, 1923, to the late Ernest and Ida (Plamann) Spring-stroh in Freedom. Evelyn graduated from Freedom High School in 1941, and proudly played on the Appleton Merchant's girls softball team. She married Harold Lillge Dec. 2, 1944, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Freedom. Among her places of employment were: AAL, Peterson-Rehbein Meat Market and Sears until her retirement. Evelyn was a member of the City of Appleton Fireman's Auxiliary for many years. She was a very active faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church where she served her Lord on the Altar Guild.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Sheryl (Daniel) Hanke, Sparta; Debra (Donald) Miller, Appleton; grandchildren, Kristi Jenson, Nathan Hanke, Kari Hanke, Chad Miller, Stephanie (Phillip) Luehring, Timothy Miller and Michelle Miller; great-granddaughter, Emma Luehring; sisters-in-law, Verona Lillge and Gladys Krueger. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; brothers, Marlin (Ellen) Springstroh and Lawrence (Melda) Springstroh.

Center Valley - Carol Jean Schabo, age 71, of Center Valley, passed away, Thursday afternoon, Jan 18, 2018, at ThedaCare, Appleton, due to recent illness. She was born Carol Jean Weihing on July 20, 1946, in Appleton, Wisconsin, to parents Marvin and Laura (Harp) Weihing. Carol married Clark Schabo May 11, 1968, and their marriage was blessed by two children, Lorie and Kevin. In addition to her over 40 years of work with Schabo Printing, a printing business she co-owned with her husband, Carol was employed over the years at Sammy's Pizza, Aid Association for Lutherans (now Thrivent Financial), Valley Bank (later M & I Bank), Valley Trust, Progress in Paper Recycling, Doshi Associates, NORC, and RTI. She was an avid baker and cook, and did a great deal of sewing, crafting, and canning, preserving the vegetables and fruit from their enormous home garden. Carol enjoyed camping, reading, and was a talented artist, primarily working in colored pencil and pastel. She shared this talent especially with her son, Kevin. Carol was an incredibly devoted mother raising her children, and her time with her grandchildren, in later years, brought her joy.
She will be sadly missed by her family -- her husband, Clark; her children, Lorie (Thomas) Grabowski and Kevin (Anjie) Schabo; her grandchildren, Emma and Abby Grabowski, and Evan and McKenna Schabo; and cousin, through marriage, Wally Osterlund. Carol has one brother, Wayne Weihing, living in Ketchikan, Alaska; his children are Susan (Don) Demers, Yvonne Ripley, and Chris (Franny) Weihing. She also has brothers- and sisters-in-law, Judy (Schabo) and Leo Riehl and Mark and Bev (Brown) Schabo, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Laura (Harp) Weihing, her father- and mother-in-law, Harry and Bernice (Kolberg) Schabo, her cousin and close friend, Betty (Green) Osterlund, and special friends Judy Schlintz and Sandy Kasten.
Visitation for Carol will be held at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 829 Appleton Rd, Menasha, WI on Monday, January 22, 9:00 - 10:45a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. the Rev. Rose Marie Weyenberg, 90, of Appleton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday, January 23, 2015. She was born on August 12, 1924, daughter of John and Henrietta (Jennerjahn) Verhagen. On August 28, 1942, Rose was united in marriage to Raymond Weyenberg. She was a sweet, simple lady, who will be truly missed.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Carol Feldkamp; her sons: Bill and Dan Weyenberg; grandchildren: Christopher Feldkamp, Cassandra (Mark) David and Carrie (Robert) Stangler; two great-grandsons: Wesley and Grayson; and a sister-in-law, Darleen Verhagen. Also of mention should be some incredibly special nieces and nephews .
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents; a brother James Verhagen; brothers and sisters-in-law: John (Helen) Weyenberg, Frank (Harriet) Weyenberg, Martin (Frances) Weyenberg, Marie (Jake) Lamers and Cecilia (Norm) Vander Heyden.

WAUSAUKEE, Wis. - Robert Leonard Jahnke, 80, of Wausaukee, Wis., died Thursday, Dec. 4, in De Pere, Wis., under hospice care.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. William (Minnie Wundrow) Jahnke was born Aug. 15, 1928, in Appleton, Wis. On June 4, 1949, he married the former Beverly Hardin in Appleton and in 1972 they moved to Wausaukee. He was self-employed as a master plumber.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Don (Jennifer) of LuVerne, Minn., Doug (Jacqueline) of Warren, R.I., Daniel (Lisa) of Marquette, Mich., and David (Jennifer) of Suring, Wis.; a daughter, Mrs. Pam (Steve) Hines of Oconto Falls, Wis.; four grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Hines, Brittney Jahnke and Danielle Jahnke; and two great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Caden. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Arthur, Helmuth and Frederick.

Bernice E. Smith, age 90, Shiocton, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015. She was born on June 12, 1924, in the Town of Ellington, daughter of the late Edward
and Ida (Jahnke) Loos. She was united in marriage to Roy Smith in 1965. He preceded her in death in 1999. Bernice worked at the Hortonville Toy Factory for 18 years; then moved to West Bend. She and her husband retired and move to Shawano. Upon Roy's death Bernice moved back to Shiocton to be closer to family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Jeanni Suprise, Shiocton; five grandchildren: Mandy (Shane) Ebben; Stephanie Suprise (fiancé George); Donna Miracle, Shelly Loos and Edward Loos, and a daughter-in-law, Maryann Loos. She is further survived by great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Charles Ernest Conradt "Charlie", age 88, passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. He was born on July 13, 1929 to the late Arthur and Martha (Janke) Conradt, the 6th of 12 children. Charlie married his wife Audrey Pieper on September 21, 1957. He worked on the family farm, served in the US Army while stationed in Korea and also worked at the fertilizer plant for 28 years. During that time Charlie also cash cropped. He was greatly involved in the community, including his many years serving as a volunteer with the Shiocton Bovina Fire Department. Charlie loved spending time outdoors, especially at his haven on the river "The Fishin' Shack". Charlie will be remembered as a great husband, loving father and grandfather, for his goofy sense of humor, and his great laugh. Grandpa Charlie will also be remembered for the delicious popcorn he would make on Sunday afternoons. He will be greatly missed by many!
Charlie is survived by his wife Audrey, with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage; his children, Laurie (Mike) Behnke, Kay Conradt and Amy (Jim) McGlone; son-in-law, Randy Van Straten; his grandchildren, Annie (Justin) Preisler, Ted (special friend Kayla Caudill) Van Straten, Kristie and Joe Behnke, Macy, Tucker, Sawyer and Ryder McGlone; great-grandchildren, William Van Straten and Lucy and Eleanor Preisler; his siblings, Dorothy Karbel, Leroy (Jeannine) Conradt, James (Joanne) Conradt, Janice (Tom) Van Straten and Verla (Jim) Booth and brothers-in-law, Marly Merholtz and Keith Pieper. Charlotte J. Merholtz, 77, Appleton, passed away on January 17, 2014 at her home with her family at her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Char was born on March 14, 1936 in Shiocton to the late Arthur and Martha (Jahnke) Conradt. She was a graduate of Shiocton High School. On February 16, 1957 she married Marlyn Merholtz at First Lutheran Church in Shiocton. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Appleton and served on the church's Altar Guild. Char was a very strong woman. During her battle with cancer, you could never hear her complain. She enjoyed cookouts and get togethers with family and friends. Char also loved animals and was a regular donor to the Humane Society. For over 20 years, Char had her "Breakfast Club", which is her mall walking group. She also enjoyed having regular lunch dates with friends and will be sadly missed by many.
Survivors include her husband Marlyn, children Randy Merholtz, Fence Wisconsin, Linda (Dick) Wickesberg, Shiocton, Chris (Carrie) Merholtz, Clintonville and Terry Merholtz, Shiocton, 8 grandchildren as well as many great-grandchildren, four brothers: Gordon Conradt, Mequon, Charles (Audrey) Conradt, Shiocton, Le Roy (Jeannine) Conradt, Shiocton and James (Joanne) Conradt, Black Creek, four sisters Dorothy Karbel, Milwaukee, Lola Pleshek, Shawano, Janice (Tom) Van Straten, Shiocton and Verla (James) Booth, Lake Tomahawk and many other relatives and friends.

Entombment at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton.

Delmar A. "Del" Nieland, Appleton, age 83, passed peacefully away to his Heavenly Father surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center. Del was born in Appleton on June 15, 1926, to the late Walter and Amanda (Tews) Nieland. He proudly served his country as a gunner in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He also served in the Army Reserve. On January 27, 1951, Del was united in marriage to Adeline E. Schmitz. The couple has enjoyed 58 years together. Del worked as a steamfitter for AZCO for 20 years, and then for August Winters for 10 years retiring in 1988. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Sheepshead, woodworking, and sharing laughter and good times with family and friends. He was a member of Appleton VFW Post #2778, a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #400, and was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Del is survived by his wife Adeline Nieland, Appleton; four daughters: Barbara (Mark) Spaude, Appleton; Susan (Richard) Springer, Cincinnati; Bonnie (Michael) Hintz, Appleton; Sharon Miller, Appleton; two sons: Lawrence Nieland, Appleton; Russell (Sheryl) Nieland, Little Chute; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren, two sisters: Delores Maas, Appleton; Beverly Harke, Kimberly; two brothers: Marvin (Jan) Nieland, Medina and James (Barb) Nieland, Appleton. He is further survived by many other relatives, friends, and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Judy, two brothers in law: Elwood Harke and Eugene Maas, and a sister in law Carol Nieland.
A Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, August 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 323 N. Morrison St., Appleton, with the Rev. Ralph Waack officiating. Friends may visit at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Thursday (TONIGHT) from 4 - 7 p.m. and directly at the church on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Interment with full military honors will take place at Highland Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Monday, August 10. A memorial fund is being established in Delmar's name for St. Paul Lutheran Church and the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Marvin J. Nieland, "Marvie", 78, Medina, passed away Nov. 20, 2010, peacefully at his home.
He was born on April 29, 1932, in Appleton, Wis., son of the late Walter and Amanda Nieland. He married his first wife, Carol Jean Maas, in 1952. Carol preceded him in death in 1984. On July 20, 1991, he married Jan Dengel in Greenville, Wis.
Marv worked for Ray's Tire in Appleton for 30 years, and at his son's bar, Your Place in Dale, where he enjoyed meeting new friends, sharing some laughs, and his favorite drink, Rye Whiskey & Diet Pepsi. After leaving Ray's, he worked as a finish carpenter for Paul Peters Construction for several years until his retirement. Over the years he enjoyed spending time at the "cottage" with family and friends, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors. He loved planting his garden every year and tending to his yard.
Marv also belonged to the Greenville Lions for many years. In 1984 he took a trip to Greenville, Miss., with two other members, in which he was an instrumental part in founding the Greenville Catfish races in Greenville, Wis. His lucky fish "Fingers" won the first two official catfish races. Marv enjoyed his time with the Lions and meeting so many people over the years.
His real passion was his woodworking. He could take a piece of wood and turn it into something beautiful. He enjoyed making keepsakes for his family and friends. His spunky attitude and gruff sense of humor will always be remembered.
Marv is survived by his wife, Jan Nieland; children, Donny (Barb) Nieland, Scott Nieland, Lori Kuhnke, Kris (Chris) Treml, Kim(Brian) Mahlendorf, and Michael Dengel; grandchildren, Lizie (Dave) Ewald, Tim (Chelsea) Kuhnke, Adam Kuhnke, Steven and Austin Kuhnke, David and Kyle Nieland, Alex and Brandon Huss, Taylor Euhardy, Baylie Treml, Sydney (Schwartz) Bergner-Dengel; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Hayden Ewald, and Jayden Kuhnke; two sisters, Deloris Maas and Beverly Harke; two sisters-in-laws, Arleen Meyers and Adeline Nieland; adopted family, Bill and Kris Hauser, Gracyn Hicks and family; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Marv is also preceded in death by his son, Mike Nieland; his brother, Delmar Nieland; and two brothers-in-laws, Elwood Harke and Eugene Maas.
A memorial service for Marv will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, At Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Nathan Reichle officiating. James Nieland, 79, of Appleton passed away January 3, 2013 at home. Born April 23, 1933 in Appleton, the son of the late Albert and Amanda (Tews) Nieland. Jim graduated from Appleton High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. On May 19, 1956 he married Barbara J. Shea at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ripon. He worked in appliance repair, eventually owning his own business. He enjoyed working on various projects, fishing, volunteering for St. Paul's Lutheran Church, but especially spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; four daughters and spouses, Kathy and Brian Kaphaem of Dublin, PA, Nancy and Jeff Davis of Appleton, Connie and Joe Smith of Neenah and Pattie and Doug Stanislawski of Neenah; grandchildren Joshua Kaphaem, Callie (Joel) Hime, Ethan Smith, Kacey Stanislawski and Rebecca Stanislawski; great-grandchildren Jabin Hime, Jackson Hime and Madelyn Hime; and sisters Deloris Maas and Beverly Harke and sister-in-law Jan Nieland.

Clarence Kositzke, age 97, passed away on May 13, 2009, at the Appleton Health Care Center. He was born June 22, 1911, in Appleton to the late Herman and Ella (Luebke) Kositzke. On February 2, 1935, Clarence married Harriet Smits, and together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Clarence participated in Golden Gloves boxing and many years of bowling. Clarence worked for the Appleton Toy Factory, the Appleton Supply company, and then moved to Weyauwega where he owned and operated the Keenway food store. In 1953, he moved back to Appleton and worked at the ALKO supermarket, then later at Orv's Pizza. In 1970, Clarence played Santa in Appleton's first Christmas parade. He continued being Santa for family and friends for many years. He will also be remembered for his delicious home-made Curly's Candy. Warren A. Fulcer, Appleton passed away Monday, August 29, 2005 in Appleton at the age of 88. Warren was born in Appleton on April 30, 1917, son of the late Warren H. and Lillian (Luebke) Fulcer. Warren graduated from the Appleton High School in 1935, and took a job driving a delivery truck for a local grocery store. While driving his route, he used to pass by the local school and blow his horn for his sweetheart, Selma Lust, the daughter of Carl and Louise (Wolf) Lust. On October 14, 1937, he married his sweetie, and had recently celebrated sixty-seven years together. By the time the couple married, Warren had a job at the Appleton Water Department and had also graduated to the top job of laying water pipe. He also worked for a local dairy, and for many years worked as a supervisor at Miller Electric in Appleton. Many will remember Warren as an accomplished musician who played with large bands in the area as well as several combos, including Tom Temple and Jimmy James. During wartime, he had a band called the Aristo crats. Warren was proud to have played completely by ear; he never needed music for anything. He enjoyed learning new music, fishing, deer hunting, and spending time at the family cottage on Anderson Lake.
Warren is survived by six children: Donald (Mary) Fulcer of Appleton; Nancy (Karl ) Dean of Dayton, Ohio; Jack (Darlene) Fulcer of Greenville; William (Christine) Fulcer of New Berlin; Ben Fulcer of Appleton; and Kurt (Laura) Fulcer of Appleton; fifteen grandchildren: Jim (Dawn) Fulcer, Patty Fischer, John (Joan) Fulcer, Sarah (Kevin) Klein, Karen Dean, Michael (Mary) Dean, Lisa (Rick) Berge, Ryan (Heather) Fulcer, Mark (Rebecca) Fulcer, Jeffrey (Gael) Fulcer, Aaron Fulcer, Benjamin Fulcer, Alyssa Fulcer, Joshua Fulcer, and Rachel Fulcer; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Jeanette, brothers: Gilbert (Thelma) Fulcer and Russell (Edith) Fulcer, a sister, Elmira "Mitzi" Henke, a grandson Brian Dean, and a great-granddaughter Dani Fischer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Scheunemann officiating. Interment will follow at Community Lutheran Cemetery in Freedom. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
The family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to the many kind and loving people that cared for Warren during his final weeks and months. They include all of the wonderful caregivers who truly cared, and made Dad part of their days: the entire staff at the Renaissance, and ThedaCare At Home Hospice, especially Susie and Paul. Obituary:
Merlin Luebke, age 88 of Appleton, passed away peacefully at Brewster Village early on the morning of Friday, September 22, 2017. Merlin was born in Appleton on June 3, 1929, son of the late Louis and Clara (Hoffman) Luebke, and was a graduate of Appleton High School. He served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1951 until 1953. In July of 1951, he married Betty Warner, whom he had met singing in the church choir. The couple enjoyed over sixty years together, until Betty's death in 2012. For many years Merlin worked with his father at Luebke Electric, and in 1957 became employed by the former Wisconsin Wire Works. He retired in 1999.
Merlin enjoyed traveling to Europe over the years, volunteering at the Children's Museum, and amateur photography. He was a longtime and faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church where he was active as an usher, deacon, and trustee. Some of his favorite times were spent sharing his "wisdom" with a grandchild or great-grandchild on his knee.
Merlin is survived by three children: Linda (Norbert) West, Jr., David (Lynn) Luebke, and Peter (Deborah) Luebke, all of Appleton; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) Fryar of Tomahawk and James (Stacey) West of Menasha; two great-grandchildren: Virginia and Charlotte West; a sister: Phyllis Callaway of Appleton; a brother-in-law: James Yeakey of Shawano; two sisters-in-law: Barbara Luebke of Townsend and Janet Warner of Appleton. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Gordon (Ione) Luebke, Sheldon Luebke, and Meldon (Elaine) Luebke, and Merton Luebke; three sisters: Delores (Gordy) Henderson, Inez (Jack) Mytton, and Janice Yeakey; and three brothers-in-law: Cab Callaway, Donald Warner, and Richard Warner.
The funeral service for Merlin will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 E. Glendale Avenue in Appleton, with Rev. Daniel Thews officiating. Reverend Merton H. Luebke age 77 died Friday, June 8, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay with his family present. Mert was born on March 19, 1935 in Appleton, the son of the late Louis and Clara (Hoffman) Luebke. On June 15, 1957 he was united in marriage to Barbara A. Blum, in Appleton.
Mert graduated from Appleton High School in 1953. He graduated from Midland College- Fremont, Nebraska where he received his BA Degree in 1957. On May 13, 1960 he graduated from Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary where he received his Masters of Divinity Degree and was Ordained on May 18, 1960.
Reverend Luebke was called by The Board of American Missions of the United Lutheran Church in America to develop a mission church on the Northeast side of Oshkosh. In May of 1961, St. Andrews Evangelical Lutheran church was organized and Pastor Luebke served that congregation until June of 1989. He was active in Big Brothers of Winnebago County, the Campus Ministry at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh and as one of the Oshkosh Police Department Chaplains. He later was employed at Muza Metal Products in Oshkosh, Wisconsin until he fully retired.
Mert was known for his knowledge and abilities in the trades and his willingness to share his talents with others. Much of the time he was engaged in a project, often for a friend. His most extensive project was their summer cottage on Archibald Lake, which he renovated into a year-round home where he and Barbara enjoyed years of retirement. During his retirement, Mert volunteered as an ambulance driver for Townsend Fire and Rescue. He then received training, and served as an EMT. He was President of the Archibald Lake Association. Mert re-engaged in his old hobby of flying radio controlled airplanes. He was an active member of the Four Seasons Flying Club and also served as Treasurer.
Mert is survived by his wife, Barbara, Townsend, WI; three children: Mark (Michelle) Luebke, Oshkosh, WI; Andrew (Kathleen) Luebke, Oshkosh, WI; Elizabeth (Bryan) Schilling, Wausau, WI; four grandchildren: Sara & Eric Schilling, Wausau, WI; Grace & Emily Luebke, Oshkosh, WI; a sister: Phyllis (Eugene) Callaway, Appleton, WI; a brother: Merlin (Betty) Luebke, Appleton, WI; a brother- in- law: Jim Yeakey, Shawano, WI; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mert was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and three sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012 at St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Karen Jewell and Rev. Peter Martyn officiating. Visitation will be at the church from Noon until the time of service. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park on Saturday June 16, 2012 at 10:00 am. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1100 East Murdock Avenue, Oshkosh, WI 54901, or to your charity of choice .
Our family and friends were given an extraordinary gift sharing our lives with Merton Harvey Luebke. His example and guidance will be missed by all who loved him.

Gordon was a Korean War vet and belonged to the Moose Lodge in Appleton. He enjoyed golfing, boating, darts, cribbage, motorcycling, photography, and tending bar. Donald A Remter, 82, of Appleton entered into eternal life Saturday October 22, 2016. He was born November 29, 1933 to Gordon and Esther (Luebke) Remter Sr. He was united in marriage with Gladys Sachs in Texas on September 20, 1957.
Donald enjoyed traveling, tinkering with computers, and family games like dice, cards and dominoes. In his younger days he enjoyed bowling and darts. Donald was a devoted Christian who loved working with the church. He was always bringing a smile to everyone's face and was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He served in the Army in Germany from 1957-1959. After retirement he moved with his wife to Yuma, AZ until they returned home to be with their family.
Donald is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Gladys Remter, his parents Gordon Sr. and Esther Remter, a brother Gordon Remter Jr., Gladys' parents Harvey and Mary Sachs, son-in-law Rueben Olmsted and niece Debra Schmidt.
He is survived by his six children: Debra Olmsted, Marshfield; Russell (Linda) Remter, Neenah; Mary (Roudy) Malliet, Little Chute; Doreen (Jeff) Westrick, Waterford; Robert/Scar (Julie) Remter, Appleton and Brenda (Scott) Kuba, Englewood, Fl. Six grandchildren: Lindsey Woerishofer, Cali (Kyle) Muetzelburg, Taylor Westrick, Connor Westrick, James Kuba and Sara Kuba. Lois A. Herrmann, age 79 of Appleton, passed away early Wednesday morning at Appleton Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 1, 1934 in Appleton to the late Erich and Verona (Dalke) Luebke. On August 9, 1952 she was united in marriage to Robert Herrmann at St. John United Church of Christ. Lois enjoyed painting; she was an Art Teacher at Fox Valley Technical College and ran a ceramic studio with her mother. She was employed by Zwickers Knitting Mill and was very active in the Americano/Toros Drum and Bugle corps parents club. She was a dedicated and active member of St. John United Church of Christ, involved in various committees and groups including; Council, Youth Fellowship, Women's Mission,
Diversity Sunday and the Hmong Group. Lois was very active in running the Twelve Corners Cemetery. She will be missed by many people whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her sons; Scott (Carrie) Herrmann, Appleton and Todd Herrmann, New London, grandchildren; Melissa (Cory) Whitcomb, Amanda (Russ) Whipple, Wanda Schaefer, Anthony Herrmann and Justin Herrmann and 11 great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, June Bastian, pro se daughter, Julie Anderson, Palmer, MI, and sister in law, Helen Mankin.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert and her son, Jaye. As well as her sister, Jean (Robert) Golden, sister in law, Dorothy (Jim) VanDeWalle and brother in law, Roy Bastian.

Reinhold H. Harp age 77, Greenville died on Friday, March 23, 2012, at his residence. Reinhold was born on November 27, 1934, in Appleton son of the late Reinhold and Lillian (Prue) Harp. On May 6, 1972, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Hughes in Appleton. He was a cement finisher and member of the Wisconsin Masons Union. He worked for Oscar Boldt for 16 years, retiring in 1996. Rein loved spending hours working in his apple orchard and garden. He always planted "a little extra" so he could share with family and friends.
Reinhold is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Jane; a brother, Charles Harp, New London; a sister, Margaret (Carl) Ruedinger, Appleton; a half brother, Lenny (Reba) Delaware, Pekin, IL. Sister-in-laws: Vivian Hughes, Milwaukee; Helen (Del) Mueller, Shawano; Shirley (Milt) Collar, Appleton and Kathy Kamba, Neenah; two brothers-in-law, Cliff (Tracy) Hughes, Hortonville and Patrick (Connie) Hughes, Greenville. Charles E. Harp, age 78, New London, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in Rochester, MN. Charlie was born on April 22, 1937, to the late Reinhold and Lillian (Prue) Harp. On October 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marjorie (Kanaman) in Hortonville. She preceded him in death in 2006. Charlie worked at Ulrich Construction until 1999, when he retired. He loved farming, watching things grow, his fish in the pond, hunting, fishing and BIG green tractors. Charlie had a big heart and was willing to help any friends and family.

Appleton - Went home to eternal life with his savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday February 28, 2018 at his home with family at his side.
This is a little about Marlyn's life.
On Wednesday June 29, 1921, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Springstroh gave their daughter, Irma Lillian Springstroh, to Mr. George C. Defferding in marriage at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Appleton, Wisconsin. In 1931 a daughter Lynette was stillborn. In 1932 a daughter Valdine was stillborn.
On September 11, 1933 Marlyn Defferding was born to a very loving mother who died shortly thereafter from child birth complications.
George Defferding suffered a breakdown from all these loses and left, leaving his new born son in the care of his maternal Grandparents, Emil Springstroh, and his wife Mamie. The Springstroh's raised Marlyn with loving joy until his Grandmother's death when Marlyn was 8 years old. Marlyn was given a good Christian upbringing in the Lutheran church. He was baptized September 28, 1933, and confirmed at Grace Lutheran church May 25,1947.
After his beloved Grandmother died it became impossible for Emil to raise Marlyn alone any longer and he was given a home by his mother's sister Mildred and her husband Marlyn Zuehlke. On December 20, 1943, George Defferding gave permission for Marlyn Defferding to be adopted by Mildred and Marlyn Zuehlke. On December 20, 1943 Marlyn officially came home to his parents Marlyn and Mildred Zuehlke with a brand new birth certificate naming Marlyn Zuehlke and Mildred Zuehlke as the parents of Marlyn Zuehlke Jr.
Marlyn graduated from Appleton High School in 1951. In 1951 Marlyn Zuehlke Jr. joined the Wisconsin National Guard serving 6 years and receiving an honorable discharge on October 4, 1958 as a Sergeant First Class, Company A, 426th Infantry. Marlyn Zuehlke Jr. then joined the United States Army Reserve until receiving an honorable discharge in April 1960.
Marlyn was preceded in death by Emil Springstroh in 1964, Marlyn Zuehlke Sr. in 1967, and Mildred Zuehlke in 1983.
Marlyn cared for a very special friend of the family, Verona Hietpas. Verona suffered a stroke leaving her in permanent need of care. Verona did not want to spend the rest of her life in a Nursing Home and made arrangements with Marlyn to take her home to her own house and to be cared for thereafter by Marlyn. Marlyn hired daytime nursing care while he went to work at Outagamie County Highway Department days. He cared for Verona nights. Verona was blessed to die at home with Marlyn sleeping on the floor next to the bed 7 years later in April 1987.
In April of 1987 a lonesome Marlyn Zuehlke sat down next to a lonesome Judy Kapuza and it was the start of the best thing that has ever happened to either of them. After a Whirlwind, very proper courtship, Marlyn Zuehlke married Judith Kapuza on August 1, 1987 in Oshkosh becoming the Step-father of Kimberly (Darren Markert) of Winneconne, Robin (William Waggoner) Larsen Wisconsin, and Lisa ( Tom Hoffman ) Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Marlyn Zuehlke is the proud Grandfather of 13 Grandchildren. He was very thrilled to be present at the birth of 7 of his Grandchildren.
Marlyn received a Kidney Transplant at the University of Wisconsin Madison in April of 1992 when it was found thru testing that his wife Judy Zuehlke could be a donor. The Lord blessed them with
years of successful transplant without ever having to experience a rejection of the organ. Years spent making loving memories. Marlyn continued to work for Outagamie county Highway Department until he retired to a lake home in Laona, Wisconsin. In April of 1998 Marlyn ran for and was elected to the Forest County Board as a County Supervisor. He was re-elected twice and retired as 2nd Vice-Chairman. While living in Laona, Marlyn was proud to serve as Elder, Vice-President, and President of his church.
Health problems brought them back to Appleton where they have enjoyed retirement, and good friends as well as membership in the church family at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Greenville.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Greenville with the Rev. Steve Kline officiating. Marlyn's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 10:45 am - 11:45 am service will follow at 12 Noon. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton at 10 am Monday March 5.

Earl E. Springstroh, 79, Freedom, passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at home surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 7, 1929, to the late Alfred and Berdine (Brown) Springstroh. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Snell on Sept. 25, 1948, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Appleton. They shared 60 wonderful years together.
Earl retired from SCA, formerly Wisconsin Tissue Mills, after 30 years of service. He worked 18 years as the caretaker of Freedom Community Lutheran Cemetery and was a member of the Fox Valley Horse Driving Association. He was a small-time farmer all his life and loved his horses and other animals. Earl was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church his entire life.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda (John) Schuh, Navarino, and their family, John (Barb) Schuh, Joshua, Justin, Mackenzie, Tina (Jim) Moser, Allyssa, and Jacob; son, Gary, Neenah, and his family, Chad, Michael, Kelly (Todd) Schroeder, Tayler, Parker, Shawn (Aaron) Schmidt, Bret, Randy and family, and Lindsey and family; daughter, Jennie (Mike) Stoop, Appleton, and their family, Michelle (Jason) Zuleger, Matthew (Shayna Smith) Stoop, and Hunter; daughter, Jeanne (Elias) Aad, Texas, and their family, Salim, Natalya, and Wassem Aad; son, Thomas J. Elsie E. Simmons, age 72, of Appleton, passed away at her home on Sunday, May 22, 2016. Elsie was born on her late parent's dairy farm in Freedom on February 18, 1944. She married Merle L. Simmons on June 19, 1965, in Freedom. Elsie was a 1962 graduate of Freedom High School. It was Elsie's nature to help everyone. She regularly made donations at the Community Blood Center and was a long-time member of the Dorcas Society at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, playing sheepshead, crocheting, snowmobiling, motorcycling, horseback riding, driving and joking with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Merle; her four daughters, Lory (Mark) Steinberg; Cheri Blackwell; Brenda (Ed) Fisher; and Barbara Simmons; her six grandchildren, Josh (Jenny) Carriveau; Jason (Katrina) Blackwell, Jacob Fisher, Natalie Fisher, Lauren Keenan and Amber Keenan; her three great grandchildren, Anthony (fiancé Elizabeth) Carriveau, Ryan Carriveau, and Morgan Carriveau.
