    Obituary:
    Carl W. Bastjan, age 97, passed away at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna, WI, on Sunday, March 22, 2009, with his wife Edna by his side. Carl was born January, 2, 1912, in Appleton, to Henry and Emma (Kubitz) Bastjan.
    Carl grew up in Appleton and attended Zion Lutheran School and Appleton Public Schools and graduated in 1930. Carl often helped his school custodian father stoke the furnaces at two different Appleton schools. Carl delivered the Post-Crescent newspapers and shined shoes at the old Conway Hotel. He proudly graduated from Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis, in their electrical school program in 1936. After returning to Appleton, Carl worked for Kimberly-Clark as an electrician.
    While attending a youth group meeting at Zion Lutheran Church, Carl met his future wife, Edna Keilwitz, from Hebron, NE, who was now the 3rd and 4th grade teacher at Zion Lutheran School. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church on June 15, 1937, and immediately moved to Washington, D.C., where Carl was employed by Addressograph-Multigraph Corporation (A-M) as a service representative. He worked in many government offices including the Treasury Department, the Navy Department and the Pentagon. Carl was deferred during World War II, because of the importance of his work with the government and the military. He also taught at the A-M service school in Cleveland, OH. While in Washington D.C., a daughter Carla and a son Vernon were born.
    In 1947, Carl was transferred to the Milwaukee A-M office, but he and the family lived in Fond du Lac where he worked as the service representative for the northern territory of the Milwaukee A-M office. In 1953, Carl and family moved to Milwaukee where he was promoted to Service Manager of the Milwaukee A-M office. In 1973, Carl retired from A-M after 36 years of faithful service. During these years Carl was an active member of his local Lutheran church by faithfully attending church and by serving on the church council.
    In 1977, Carl and Edna moved to Appleton after being gone for forty years. Carl rejoined Zion Lutheran Church where he had been baptized, confirmed in the faith and married to Edna. He was active at Zion as a money counter, Keenager and Eltergarten member. He particularly enjoyed playing cribbage and pool using his own pool cue. He was an active vegetable gardener and apple grower. He continued repairing the A-M credit card machines for many years in his garage and basement.
    Carl is survived by his wife of 71 years, Edna, St. Paul Home; daughter Carla (Robert Hannemann, Eau Claire; a son Vern (Nancy) Bastjan, Sherwood; four grandchildren: Alan (Crystal) Hannemann, Crowley, TX; Greg (Lori) Hannemann, Kalamazoo, MI; Amy (Luke) Stachovak, Rothschild, WI; Adam (Heather) Bastjan, Wauwatosa, WI; and 6 great-grandchildren with the seventh due in July.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Helen and Stan Smarzinski; Lucille and Willard Ferron; a brother, Vernon Bastjan; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Elsie (Keilwitz) and Al Hoffman; three half-sisters: Lillian Thiel, Meta Maes and Gertude Jury, and many many friends.
    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff St. Paul Home for the wonderful care that was given to our father and to Dr. Lee Vogel of UW Health for her thoughtfulness, consideration and many years of care of Carl. Also, thank you to Theda Care Hospice, especially Jeanne Secor, R.N.
    Funeral Services for Carl will be held 12 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church, 912 N. Oneida St., with Rev. Kurt Kovanen officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.     Thiel, Roger H., Legend Lak e, Formerly of KimberlyAge 83, passed away peacefully into God’s hands on Thursday, May 8, 200 3. He was born in Appleton on August 24, 1919, son of the late Henry and L illian (Bastian) Thiel. Serving in the Army from 1941 to 1945, he was a Wo rld War II Vet with the 435th Medical Regiment. He achieved the rank of Ma ster Sergeant. He was united in marriage to Marie Strick on May 4, 194 6. He was a graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1947 and be came a prominent engineer in the heating and air conditioning field in Nor th Eastern Wisconsin for over 40 years. Roger became an active member of t he Knights of Columbus, fourth degree. He was one of the original membe rs of the Star Dusters Club, dancing the night away with his honey, Mari e. He enjoyed camping and traveling, taking his children on many memory fi lled trips. One of his favorite things was just being at Legend Lake relax ing, going for boat rides, walks and visiting with friends. Roger was a lo ving, caring man who graced our lives with his smile and nurturing way s. He will be deeply missed.Roger is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie; five children: Gary Thi el of Appleton and his children Monica (fiance Jimmy) and Eric (Laura); Je ff (Susan) Thiel of Cocoa Beach, FL and their son Brad; Tom (Carol) Thi el of North Freedom and their children Carly, Ryan and Dana; Randy (Jea n) Thiel of Kimberly and their son Nicholas; and Pam (Randy) Wyngard of Gr eenville and their children Devin and Taylor; two great grandchildren: Sam antha and Ashley; and two brothers, Jerry (Barbara) and Wayne (Jean).Roger is preceded in death by four brothers: Hank, Harvey, Carlton and Bob .The funeral liturgy will be at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2003, at HO LY NAME OF JESUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 600 East Kimberly Avenue, Kimberly, wi th Fr.     Don L. Jury, age 88, of Appleton, joined his beloved wife Terry in heaven on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Don was born in Appleton on September 30, 1926 to the late Lewis and Gertrude (Bastjan) Jury. He graduated with the class of 1942 at Appleton High School.
    After high school, Don proudly served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He then attended the University of Wisconsin Madison Law school, graduating in 1953. In 1954, he was united in marriage to Theresa Pulda and they were blessed with two sons and a marriage of over 50 years. In 1954, Don became the City Attorney of Appleton until 1964 when he went into his own private practice for the rest of his career. Don was a member of the Appleton Elks Club for many years and also an active member at First English Lutheran Church, Appleton. Don will forever be remembered as an upstanding, respected attorney as well as a most loving husband, father and friend to many. Prior to Theresa passing in 2006 with ALS, they were fortunate to travel quite extensively. He and Terry also made family a priority, making wonderful memories to forever cherish. Their grandchildren were their proudest life achievement.
    Don is survived by two sons: Jon (Tracie) Jury, Port Orange, FL and Matthew (Gina) Jury, Green Bay; 2 grandchildren: Timothy and Hannah Jury; and his brother, Maurie (Carrie) Jury, Appleton. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Theresa, three brothers: Stanley (Rosemary) Jury, Raymond (Lois) Jury, Emmerson (Virginia) Jury, and two sisters, Ramona (Frank)Steenis and Gloria (Milton) Tourkakis.
    There will be a private immediate family service to celebrate his life.
    The family would like to extend a special thank you and much gratitude to Don's guardian angels - Bryan and Rachel Schauf and their two beautiful daughters, Alaina and Claire.
