    Van Lyssel, GeorgeGeorge J. Van Lyssel, age 89, of Appleton and Fremont, WI, passed away Mon day, July 17, 2006, at Franciscan Care Center in Appleton. He was born Sep tember 2, 1916, in De Pere, WI, the son of the late Martin and Wilma (Vers tegen) Van Lyssel. George married Josephine C. Hartzheim on June 14, 194 1, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Darboy, WI. She preceded him in dea th on August 29, 1994. He later married Mary Jane Rice on June 30, 199 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oshkosh, WI. George began his care er in 1936 as an apprentice working for Reimer Electric in Appleton. He w as a licensed certified master electrician and number 19 in Appleton to re ceive his license. During WWII he was employed by M. W. Kellogg Company, w orking overseas on oil refineries in Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. He lat er joined Hatfield Electric Company in Chicago, IL, doing electrical const ruction through the years in 17 states, specializing in power houses. He r etired in 1986 as Executive Vice President. George was a member of St. Mar y's Catholic Church in Appleton, a Life Member of Neenah-Menasha Elks Lod ge #676, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers ( IBEW), a 3rd Degree Member and Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Colu mbus. George could fix anything and was always puttering around. He had pr ojects going year round. He will be deeply missed by his family and friend s.Survivors include his wife, Jane of Appleton; his daughter, Sandra D ay of Beloit, WI; his son Donald (Cynthia) Van Lyssel of Forsyth, IL; fi ve grandchildren: Karie (Matt) Koch of Stoughton, WI; Kevin (Susan) D ay of Beloit; Heather (James) Kimmons of Decatur, IL; Scott (Laura) Van Ly ssel of Highland Park, IL; and Holly (Eric) Flick of Decatur; ten great-gr andchildren: Christopher, Connor, and Chloe Day, Joey Koch, Gillian and Al lison Kimmons, Nathan, Ben, and Charlie Van Lyssel, and Sofia Flick; fo ur step-children Connie Rice of Columbia, MO, Daniel (Jenny) Rice of Freed om, WI, Jeffery (Beverly) Rice of Oshkosh, WI. and Russell (Heidi) Ri ce of Appleton; six step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; Al so many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and dear friends.In addition to his parents and first wife, George was preceded in dea th by a sister Marie Schuster and two brothers: Adrian and Robert Van Lyss el.The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20 th at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 S. State St., Appleton, with Fr. Bob L exa officiating. Entombment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Appl eton. Friends may call directly at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday unt il the time of the service.
