Obituary:
Howard L. Schabo, age 90, was called home to heaven by his Lord and Savior on January 27, 2012, with his family at his side. He was born to Herman and Lanie (Panzenhagen) Schabo on November 8, 1921 in the Town of Center. On January 10, 1942, he was united in marriage to Mildred Willenkamp. They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. Howard briefly served in the Army in 1942, until honorably discharged to run the family farm. He also worked at Kools and Giddings & Lewis before retiring. Howard served many years as a volunteer fireman for the town of Center. He was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Town of Center, where he was baptized, confirmed and married. He served the congregation in many capacities over the years. He played softball in his youth and loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife: Mildred; daughters: Bev (Don) Wichman, Appleton; Sandy Vaughan, Waupaca; Pat Schabo, Appleton, and dear family friend, Judy Weigman, Appleton. 6 grandchildren: Mike (Kristy) Wichman; Michelle (Fathy) Majadly; Amy (Jim) Plamann; Angie (Rich) Camps; Holly (Bob) Niemuth; Howie Vaughan. 12 great-grandchildren: Lindsey, Kailey, Ryan, Evan Wichman; Allie, Adam Majadly; Katie, Sam Plamann; Garrett, Maggie Camps; Cameron, Kylie Niemuth. 3 step grandchildren: Tammy (Jon) Vander Heyden; Tim, Tom Vaughan. 3 step-great grandchildren: Dana, Shayla Vaughan; Kaleb Vander Heyden. 1 sister: Helen Witt; 3 sisters-in-law: Bernice, Ethel Schabo; Marian Ashman and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Frank Vaughan, his parents, brothers: Harry, Robert, Lester Schabo; brother-in-law Lloyd Witt; sister-in-law, Gladys Schabo Brum. Also brothers and sisters-in-law: Harry & Helen, Emrow & Erdine, Marvin & Margaret Willenkamp; Irma & Harold Rusch; Eldo Ashman. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at ST. JOHN EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, N3505 State Rd. Hwy 47, Appleton, WI Revs. Jeffrey Suhr and Micah Martin officiating. Howard's family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 30, 2012 from 4-7pm and again on Tuesday at the church from 9 am until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Funds have been established for St. John Lutheran Church & Fox Valley Lutheran High School. The family wishes to thank the Rennes hospice staff for their exceptional care and concern.
