    Biography:
    IGNATZ GEORGE BERG, dairyman farmer of Grand Chute township, Outagamie county, Wisconsin, where with his brother he is engaged in operating an excellent farm of 123 acres, was born in Hartland, Wisconsin, December 11, 1882, and is a son of John F. and Anna (Steffen) Berg, the former a native of Ashford, Dodge county, and the latter of Hortonville, Outagamie county. Early in life, John F. Berg learned the trade of carpenter, and this he followed during a long period, but in recent years he has been residing on a farm in Grand Chute township, although he does none of the hard labor, merely overseeing the work. He is also the owner of a milk route which is operated by his son. Mr. Berg has held various minor township offices and is respected and esteemed by all who know him. Mr. and Mrs. Berg had a family of seven children, as follows: Ignatz George; Laura, who married Louis Sager, a buttermaker of Appleton; Frederick, residing on the farm adjoining his brother Ignatz, married Alice Langanburg; Elmer, residing with his father; Leo and Louis, residing on the farm with Ignatz; and Harold, who attends school and lives with his father.
    Ignatz George Berg attended school first at Bessemer, Michigan, and later at Hortonville. and worked at home on the farm until he was twenty-one years of age, at which time he went to Milwalukee and was employed at the Hotel Pfister for one year. He then returned to this county, and soon thereafter was employed in a laundry at Menasha, but after three years there started farming on his present property. He and his brother Frederick have a property comprising 123 acres, devoted principally to dairy farming, and they keep an average of forty cows, with an average of twenty head of young stock. Mr. Berg is a faithful member of the Catholic church, and in his political attitude takes an independent stand, acknowledging no party ties and voting rather for the man than for the organization. On January 27, 1904, Mr. Berg was married to Miss Pauline Drenks, who was born at Greenville, Outagamie county, February 23, 1886, daughter of Bernard and Katharine (Stroebe) Drenks. Mr. Drenks was born in Germany, September 9, 1845, and his wife in Milwaukee, May 10, 1846. Mr. Drenks came to America when quite young, with his parents, and became a land owner in Greenville township, Outagamie county, where he is still engaged in farming. He and his wife had eleven children: Nelson, who lives with his parents; Frank, a blacksmith of Center township; Josephine and Jesse, deceased; Charles, residing at home; Clara, wife of Adam Limpert, a contractor of Appleton; Emma and Hattie, deceased, the latter of whom was the wife of Ernest Hugie, of Anaconda, Montana; Louise, who is single and resides at home; Pauline, who married Mr. Berg, and Minnie, who is single and at home. Mr. and Mrs. Berg have had two children; Mildred Laura, born March 25, 1904, and Editha Louise, born February 16, 1906, both residing at home.

    Paula Owen: "Aunt Lucille (Steffen) and little Eugene (Lucille's brother) both came down with Diptheria. Grandma (Lucy Olk) Steffen put the two of them out on the back porch to isolate them from the rest of the family. Grandma Steffen also made my Grandma Veronica B. (e.g. Veronica Alma Steffen Boutellier) stay out there to take care of them. Aunt Lucille said my Grandma (Veronica Steffen) was crying that she didn't want to die. Course ole tough Aunt Lucille told her to stop crying she wasn't going to die. Their little Eugene was in bed next to Aunt Lucille and he called his Mom (Lucy Olk Steffen) to his side. He pointed up to the corner of the room and told his Mom to look at the beautiful angel. He told his Mom the angel wanted him to come with her and asked could he please go.     Leone Lamers, age 98, passed peacefully at Bethany home in Waupaca on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014. Formerly from Kaukauna, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Art, and a son, Paul. She was survived by sons Ken, North Fort Meyers, Florida, Dan, Waupaca, Dave, Libertyville, Illinois, Chip, Kaukauna, and a daughter, Barb [Achten], Waupaca, a brother Roman and sister Louise, both of Kaukauna.
    She had 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She worked in food service at Quinny school after her children were out of the home. She was a member of Holy Cross congregation and served on the hospital and homebound visitation committee with Art until her 90th year. She was most gratified by being able to assist Hmong families in learning English. She loved reading and chocolate, and had an open and curious mind.
    Leone was a dear, loving, and gentle wife and mother. She was a caring and faithful friend, and will be missed by all who knew her.
    An informal celebration of her life will be held on what would have been her 99th birthday, Feb. 19, 2014 at the Waupaca Ale House, 201 Fox Fire Dr. in Waupaca, from 4:00-6:30pm, with a blessing and stories at 6:00pm.

    Obituary:
    Roman L. Berg, age 95, of Kaukauna, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on September 3, 1918, in Appleton, the son of the late Fred and Alice (Langenberg) Berg. Roman served in the U.S. Army from January 7, 1942 until October 9, 1945. On October 3, 1944, he married Alice Damro at St. Leo's Parish in Tacoma, Washington. Roman and his brother Cy owned Berg's Dry Cleaners in Kaukauna, and he retired from the business in 1983. He was a faithful and active member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, where he volunteered his time with church collections. Roman was a member of the Kaukauna Lions and Elks Club. He was active in golf and bowling leagues, and especially enjoyed the friendship of the "Dirty Dozen". His family meant the world to him. He loved spending time with his wife and children and looked forward to family boating time on the water.
    Roman is survived by his son Larry Berg of Toronto, Canada; daughter Bonnie (Rick Collins) Berg of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; grandson David Berg of Toronto, Canada; and his sister Louise Damro of Kaukauna. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Roman was preceded in death by his wife Alice Berg and nine siblings.

    Jerome O. "Bud," "Jerry" Berg, Pleasanton, CA, 85, died June 6, 2008, following a battle with cancer. Jerry was born May 19, 1923, in Grand Chute, WI, to Leo N. and Mary Gitter Berg. Jerry graduated from Appleton (West) High School, Appleton, WI, in 1941. Ensign Berg bravely served as a naval aviator during World War II. He married Leone DeGroot on April 19, 1947, in Little Chute, WI. Following the war he worked 30 years for Ford Motor Co., initially as a pattern maker, and then as an engineer. He later retired in CA. His hobbies were woodworking, fishing, photography and travel. His travel destinations included Alaska, numerous European countries, Australia, New Zealand and China. The family traveled in their Airstream trailer all over the United States. He also served as President of the Minnesota Airstream Unit.

    Leo H. Berg N155 Brux Road Darboy Age 74, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. He was born May 16, 1926 in the Town of Grand Chute, son of the late Leo N. and Mary (Gitter) Berg. Leo was a Korean War Army Veteran, having served from 1951 to 1953. On May 13, 1953 he married the former Theresa Mae Emons at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute. Leo was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Darboy where he served as an usher for many years, had served as Trustee from 1963 to 1973 and was Treasurer and caretaker of the cemetery from 1963 to 1999. Leo also was a member of the Leo Van Roy Post 265 of the American Legion, where he held various offices. He was a member of the Town of Buchanan Fire Department for 34 years and had served 19 years as Fire Chief. From 1993 to 1999, he was also Town of Buchanan Supervisor. Leo was employed at American Can, retiring after 36 years, and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. Following his retirement, he worked part time for the Darboy Sanitary District.     Carlton E. Berg, age 83, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. He was born on March 31, 1930 in Appleton to the late Leo N. and Mary (Gitter) Berg. His mother passed away when he was an infant, and he was raised by a loving aunt and uncle, Laura and Louis Sager. Carlton served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He married the love of his life Geraldine DeGroot on October 1, 1953, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton and lived at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida for fifteen months while Carl finished his enlistment. Following his military service, they moved back to Appleton and were blessed with four children.
    Carl worked as a self-employed contractor and was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was president of the Holy Name Society at St. Therese Catholic Church. Carl enjoyed sailing, boating, woodworking, and traveling. He looked forward to the Sunday drives, Friday morning breakfast with his siblings, listening to marching band music, doing lawn care on the John Deere and spending time at their home on the lake.
    Carl was a loving and devoted husband, and a very caring father and grandfather. Most important to him was his family and the time they spent together, and the memories they made will always be treasured.
    Carl is survived by his son, Michael Berg of San Diego, California; daughters, Karen Berg of Neenah, Carla (Robert) Ater of Appleton, and Barbara (Gene) Wall of Triangle, Virginia; grandchildren: Adam Apell and Emily Apell; John (Ashley) Perry and Mark Perry; and Elena Wall; great grandchildren: Deonte and Jazmine Coffin, Dominic Apell; and Madaline Perry; sisters and brothers: Joan Janz, Loretta (Gerald) Schultz, Adam (Charlotte) Berg, Victor Berg, Vincent (Ione) Berg, Florence Walker, and Anna (Richard) Hayes; sisters-in-law: Verona, Dolores, Mildred, Leone, Theresa, and Anita Berg; Helen DeGroot, and Evelyn Dolan; and brother-in-law, Richard DeBroux.     Robert F. Grimmer, age 74, of Menasha passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, April 16, 2016. He was born on November 4, 1941 in Appleton, Wisconsin son of the late William A. and Marcella A. (Berg) Grimmer. Bob was a graduate of Appleton West High School. He worked as a Lead Pressman for Banta for 42 years until retirement, and was very active in the Union "GCIU" where he held numerous offices. Bob was also a Past President of the Appleton Bowling Association "ABA." He enjoyed bowling, auto racing, camping, and being outdoors.
    He will be sadly missed by his children: Michael (Dawn) Grimmer, Appleton, Julie (Ron) Routhieaux, Little Chute, Robin (Corby) Blansette, Appleton; grandchildren: Justin Wilkum; Aimee and Emma Grimmer; Dominick Green; Hayden and Ashton Routhieaux; nephew, Dave (Colleen) Grimmer; Mother to Michael and Julie, Darlene Steger, Appleton; and several good friends.
