    Ruby Pearl Minlschmidt, age 87, of Black Creek, passed away Monday morning, May 23, 2011, at her home. She was born September 18, 1923, daughter of the late Willard and Frances (Van Straten) Last. On September 23, 1941, she was united in marriage to Floyd Minlschmidt. He preceded her in death in 1986.
    Ruby graduated from Shiocton High School Class of 1941. Ruby's father called her his "Little Gem." She was a faithful and active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Black Creek. She worked many years at the Black Creek School as a cook and loved time spent with her children and grandchildren.
    Survivors include her children; Mary Beth Minlschmidt, Appleton; Carol Knoke, Green Bay; John (Maxine) Minlschmidt, Black Creek; Jane (Greg) Reed, Seymour; Cindy (Eric) Dovenbarger, Florida; Cheri (Tom) Duffey, Appleton; Pam Minlschmidt, Appleton; Lisa Minlschmidt (special friend Ray), Appleton; Todd (Renee) Minlschmidt; Amy Lawrence (special friend Dave), Black Creek; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one sister Ethel Diermeier, Black Creek; Brother-in-law LeRoy Minlschmidt, Appleton.
    Preceded in death by a daughter Sue and a brother Willard.
    Friends may call at the Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home on Thursday, May 26, 2011, from 4-8 with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, May 27, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Black Creek, from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 11 with Father Theodore Hendricks officiating.     WEST BRANCH, Iowa - Willard "Bill" Francis Last, 78, formerly of Muscatine, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation, West Branch, after an extended illness.
    Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at St. Mathias Church. The Rev. John P. Gallagher will officiate. Casket bearers are Sam and Aaron Last, Mike Reeves, Dennis Janssen, Jack Lamm and Fred Wookey. Honorary casket bearers are Paul Bermel, Paul Schumacher and Sean Last. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus or Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation.
    Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, with a 7 p.m. rosary by the Knights of Columbus, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley Funeral Home, 1931 Houser St. Online condolences may be left for the Last family at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
    Mr. Last was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Black Creek, Wis., the son of Willard F. and Frances Van Straten Last. He married Helen Elizabeth Jochman June 16, 1948, in Appleton, Wis. She preceded him in death in 1994.
    He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a master's degree in microbiology.
    He was a member of St. Mathias Church, the Knights of Columbus, was a past grand knight, and a member of the 4th degree. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge No. 388.
    He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the great outdoors.
    He served in World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a regional governor in Korea after World War II and prior to the Korean War.
    He worked as a superintendent of Quality Control at Grain Processing Corp., retiring after 37 years of service. He was instrumental in starting Quality Control and the fermentation plant.
    Survivors include a two sons, Michael Last and wife Kathy of West Liberty and Mark Last of Muscatine; seven grandchildren, Shasta, Eric, Sam, Sean, Aaron and Hunter Last, and Stephanie Reeves; two sisters, Ruby Minlschmidt and Ethel Diermeier and husband Clarence, all of Black Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a son, Matthew J. Last in 1991.
