    Obituary:
    Herbert Lloyd Welsch, age 93, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Emeritus Fox River Assisted Living. Herb was a lifelong resident of Appleton. He proudly served his country as an Army officer during World War II in Germany. Upon his return to Appleton, Herb worked at Western Condensing, AAL (Thrivent) and Pinkerton.
    Survivors include his sons, Chuck (Susan) Welsch, Attleboro, Massachusetts, Tom (Barb) Welsch, Appleton, his daughter, Lyndy (Bruce) Ramella, and granddaughter Kristy Ramella, all of Mesa, Arizona. Herb's sisters, Joan Krueger and Lois Mattern, also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Arlene (Risse), and his grandson, Richard Welsch. His brothers Hank, Mike and Jim and his sisters, Gladys and Maxine are also deceased.
    A private family graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.
    The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Fox River Assisted Living for their care of Herb over the last few years.     Obituary:
    Lois Mae (Welsch) Mattern, age 79, of Menasha, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Cherry Meadows. Lois was born in Appleton on February 17, 1935, daughter of the late Henry and Ida (Bohm) Welsch. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1953 and went on to work as a secretary in the public schools for over 20 years. Shortly after graduating high school, Lois married the love of her life Eugene Mattern on July 14, 1956. Eugene and Lois had 53 wonderful years of marriage. He passed away in 2010.
    Lois loved to do craft projects including cross stitch and knitting. She was also a voracious reader, reading up to five books a week. Lois also enjoyed music; whether it be singing in the St. Timothy Choir or going to the Fox Valley Symphony as a season ticket holder. She volunteered both at church and with elementary school children helping them to read. She was also a great baker, making her special hickory nut and pumpkin pies for every holiday.
    Lois is survived by her two children; Paul Mattern of Gardner, Massachusetts, and Lisa (Jeff) Harper of Charleston, South Carolina. She is further survived by her grandchildren; Nicholas and Katherine Harper; sister: Joan Krueger; as well as her "Norwegian daughter": Kari (Ove Aalo) Mortenson and their children Nora and Sofie. Lois will also be missed by many in-laws, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Henry and Ida Welsch; her husband: Eugene Mattern; her son: Thomas; sisters: Maxine and Gladys; and brothers: Herbert, Milton "Mike", Henry "Hank", and Jimmy.
    The memorial service for Lois will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at ST. TIMOTHY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 473 7th Street, Menasha with Rev. David Skarsten officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at her church. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.
