Obituary:
Edmund Vandenhoven, 88, Green Bay resident, died Monday, Nov. 3, 200 3, at a local hospital. He was born Aug. 29, 1915, in New Franken, to t he late Theodore and Theresa (Ripp) Vandenhoven. Ed served in the U.S. Ar my during World War II in the 32nd Red Arrow Division. He served from 19 41 until his discharge in 1945. When Ed returned from service he married t he former Sarah Van Lanen on Aug. 31, 1946, at St. Patrick Catholic Churc h. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2003. Ed and Sarah farmed in Bel levue for over 32 years until their retirement. He was also employed at Sc hreiber Cheese for over 30 years, retiring in 1978. Ed was a member of t he VFW Winiecki Post #9677 in Bellevue and a longtime member of St. Phil ip the Apostle Parish. As a member of St. Philip he took great pride in se rving as president of the St. Philip conference of the St. Vincent De Pa ul Society. Ed found great joy in his grandchildren and was never happi er than when talking history or working the land.
He is survived by two children, James (Ruth Lalonde) Vandenhoven, Wiscons in Rapids; and Patricia Vandenhoven, Green Bay; three grandchildren, Danie l, Karabeth and Seth; two great-grandchildren, Colt and Bryce; one brothe r, Wilfred (Lois) Vandenhoven, Green Bay; one sister, Betty Jane Drewiesk e, Green Bay; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Norman and an infant sister, Germ aine.
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home and Crematory, 1630 E. Mas on St., on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Parish Wake Service 7 p.m. VFW Memori al Service 6 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday at the funeral home f rom 10:30 a.m. until the cortege leaves for church. Mass of Christian Buri al 12 Noon Friday at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 312 Victoria St., wi th the Rev. Rallen Stencil officiating. Burial in the Allouez Catholic Cem etery.
Sincere thank you to the staff at the McCormick Home, the nurses and sta ff of the Odd Fellows Home, St. Mary's Hospital Staff, Dr. Rank and Sist er Helen. We would also like to thank the many people who visit ed Ed on a regular basis. Their thoughts and prayers were very much apprec iated.
