Biography:
HENRY G. KRAUSE, the owner of an excellent farming property of 107 acres situated in Seymour township, is one of the self-made men of Outagamie county, where he has spent more than twenty years in farming and stock raising. Mr. Krause was born February 18, 1863, in Prussia, Germany, a son of Gottlieb and Wilhelmina (Filbrandt) Krause. The parents of Mr. Krause came to the United States in 1866 in a sailing vessel which took nine weeks to make the journey, and Gottlieb Krause for the following four years worked at various occupations, although his trade was that of a tailor. In 1870 he came to Seymour township and settled on eighty acres of wild land on section 33, where he erected a good frame dwelling and carried on farming until his death in 1910, when eighty-five years of age. He helped to organize the German Evangelical Church at Seymour, was a member of the school board for some years and was highly esteemed by all with whom he came into contact. His widow, who survives him, is eighty-six years old. Gottlieb and Wilhelmina Krause had the following children: Mary, Charles, August W., Johanna, Henry G. and Ida, of whom only the last-named was born in the United States.
Henry G. Krause was educated in the district schools and was yet a youth when he started out to make his own way in the world. He occupied himself at various employments until his marriage in 1887 to Johanna Meiske, and during the year following located on his present property, then a tract of sixty-seven acres, twenty-eight of which had been cleared. He at once settled down to clear and cultivate his property, replacing the old log buildings with new, substantial ones, and making his property one of the valuable farms of Seymour township. Mr. Krause has never been assisted in any way, and the success that has crowned his efforts has been due to his own perseverance and industry. Mr. Krause has for some years been engaged in cattle raising, and he has a fine herd of Holsteins and Short Horns, the latter receiving the most of his attention. In political matters he is a Republican, and although he has held the position of school director he has never aspired to public office, preferring to give his time and attention to his farming interests. The family attends the Congregational Church.
Mrs. Krause was one of the nine children of Fred and Minnie (Sastro) Meiske, who settled at Watertown, Wisconsin, in 1868. To Mr. and Mrs. Krause there have been born seven children: Robert, who lives at home; Ella and Louisa, school teachers of Seymour township; Henry; Eicha and Gertrude, living at home; and Wilbert, who died at the age of three months.

Alice M. Duhm, 90, of Black Creek, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 at West Haven in Brillion. Heaven gained a beautiful singing angel as she joined her husband, Vernon.
She was born July 27, 1925, daughter of the late Henry and Anita (Haefs) Krause. On June 5, 1948 she was united in marriage to Vernon Duhm. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2003.
Alice and Vernon farmed together for many years, and she also worked at Rich's Frozen Foods in Appleton.
Alice is a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Black Creek. She was very active in the church choir and ecumenical choir for many years.
She enjoyed taking long drives with Vernon and traveling with her daughter, Cheryl. Alice was a wonderful cook and made the best apple and lemon meringue pies, and enjoyed her flower gardens.
Alice made it a priority to attend the milestone events of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: James Duhm, Appleton; Karen (Kenneth) Borchardt, Brillion; Cheryl Duhm, Black Creek; son-in-law, Ruben Nooyen, Seymour; grandchildren: Carmen (Chuck) Utecht, Pheonix, AZ; Cara (Mike) Boremann, Byron, MN; Heather (Jeff) Brandt, Greenleaf; Troy (Carly) Nooyen, Pulaski; Bryce (Amy) Nooyen, Roaring Spring, PA; Brianna (fiancé Austin Abendroth) Nooyen, Seymour; great-grandchildren: Zoey, Avery, Taylor, Christopher, Elijah, Zachary, Ryah, Laken, Conner, Trever, and Gemma Rose. She is further survived by her sister: Ardis (Jim) Lyons; brother, Carl (Joyce) Krause; brother-in-law, Roy (Ethel) Duhm.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Karla Nooyen; grandchildren: Carrie Marie and Aaron Scott Borchardt; great-grandchildren: Lily Grace Utecht, Grace Ann and Faith Kay Nooyen; sister, Dolores Peterson; sisters-in-law: Geneva (Jack) Tesch and Victoria (Wilmer) Daelke.
Friends may call at Muehl-Boettcher Funeral Home, Seymour, on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue at St. John United Church of Christ, Black Creek, on Friday, July 15, 2016 from 9:30 am until the funeral service at 11 am with Pastor Mark Schwinn officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

Dolores A. Peterson, 77, Appleton, passed away unexpectedly at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009. She was born in Seymour, on Feb. 6, 1932, the daughter of the late Henry G. and Anita M. (Haefs) Krause. Dolores was preceded in death by her former husband, James E. Peterson, in 1988.
Dolores was a nursing assistant for Appleton Medical Center and also worked in home care. Dolores was a very caring person and a listener who had strong Christian values. She loved family functions, playing the organ and piano, loved reading and writing letters to family and friends. Dolores cherished her cats, Missy and Babe, and her dog, Lady.
Dolores is survived by her children, Gene (Alice) Peterson, Freedom, and their daughter, Tonya (Greg) Darnell; Rodney "Rod" Peterson, Appleton; Marlin (Cathy) Peterson, Neenah; Dale Peterson, Milwaukee; and Steve Peterson, Menasha; great-grandchildren, Leo, Karina, Isaiah, Holly, Stephanie, Pam and Tina; and a special foster granddaughter; sisters, Alice Duhm and Ardis (Jim) Lyons; brother, Carl (Joyce) Krause; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Doreen Peterson; and brother-in-law, Vernon Duhm.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at the Wichmann Funeral Home. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park following the services.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for their compassionate and professional care.
A memorial fund in Dolores' name is being established.

Ruth E. Spietz, 80, Green Bay, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, at a local nursing home. She was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Seymour, to the late Eiche and Minnie (Haefs) Krause.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Knapowski, Green Bay; a grandson, Eric Knapowski, Green Bay; one sister, Rogene Spietz, Brillion; one brother, Darwin Krause, Green Bay; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Spietz; her parents; one brother, Robert Krause; and her sister, Marlene Schmidt.

Spietz, Rogene Ann Krause
Rogene Ann Krause Spietz, 78, of Brillion, passed away peacefully at Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein after a lengthy illness. She was born May 31, 1929, to Minnie (Haefs) and Eiche Krause in the Town of Seymour, WI. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1947. On September 3, 1949, Rogene & Gerhardt were united in marriage at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour. Rogene was employed at the Ariens Company in Brillion from 1965-1991. She was a longtime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brillion.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gerhardt; five children: Linda (Bill) Benner, Amberg; David (Lois) Spietz, Saukville; Luanne White, Menasha; Mark (Jane) Spietz, Oshkosh; Susan Spietz, Amberg; nine grandchildren: Robert Lenz, William Benner III, Christopher (Candi) Spietz, Rebecca (Paul) Clements, Katherine Spietz, Nathan (Sara) White, Shaun White, Lindsey Spietz, Alicia Spietz; four great-grandchildren: Clayton Benner, Jayden Spietz, Jonathon Spietz, Paxton Clements; a brother, Darwin (Mary) Krause and other family members.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry George Spietz, a brother Robert Krause, two sisters: Marlene Schmidt and Ruth (William) Spietz and a granddaughter, Tanya Benner.
A celebration of Rogene's life will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at NOON at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brillion, with Pastor Ross Henzi officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Wrightstown.
Rogene's family would like to thank the staff of Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein for their compassionate and excellent care of Rogene for the past two years and also Pastor Ross Henzi and the ladies of the church.

Bernadine worked for GTE for 40 years in Seymour and Plymouth. She was a past graduate of Seymour High School. She was a member of Seymour United Methodist Church.

I, Karla Nooyen, age 59, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 26, 2013 due to pancreatic cancer with my husband and family supporting me. I was born May 23, 1954 to Alice and Vernon Duhm. I enjoyed reading, walking and spending time with my family.
I am survived by my husband Ruben of Seymour. Together, we had 4 children; Brianna Nooyen living at home dating Austin Abendroth, Bryce married to Amy Nooyen of Middletown PA, Troy married to Carly Nooyen of Pulaski, and Heather married to Jeff Brandt of Greenleaf. We also 4 grandchildren: Trever and Conner, sons of Troy and Carly, and Laken and Ryah, daughters of Heather and Jeff.
I am also survived by my mom, Alice Duhm, 2 sisters: Cheryl Duhm of Black Creek, Karen (Ken) Borchardt of Brillion and brother, James Duhm of Appleton.
I also had many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded me in death are my dad, Vernon Duhm, Henry and Adele Nooyen; niece and nephew Carrie and Aaron Borchardt.

I want to thank everyone for all the cards and gifts I received while being treated for cancer. I want to thank the emergency room staff at St. Mary's Hospital, the doctors: Dr. Warren, Dr. Winkler of Green Bay, and Dr. La Conte of Madison, and of course all of the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, especially the staff at the Oncology Center and the people from Unity Hospice. I can't begin to name names; there are so many. You all have been helpful and understanding even when I wasn't my best. So thank you. Everyone that waved or talked to me while I was walking, it sure helped to encourage me.
