    Caroline Mary Sullivan (Kalista) age 94, Appleton, passed away on June 30, 2012 at Brewster Village. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 AM Friday July 6, 2012 at St. Marys Catholic Church, 312 South State Street, with Father David Funk, OFM CAP officiating. Friends and family may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of service and also on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 North Superior Street. Full obituary will be published at a later date.

    Caroline Mary Sullivan (Kalista), age 94, of Appleton, died peacefully on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Brewster Village in Appleton. She was born on August 17, 1917 in Kaukauna, to Charles J. and Mary C. (Shuber) Kalista. Caroline graduated from Kaukauna High School, Oshkosh State Teachers College, and UW-Whitewater. On June 5, 1943 she married then First Lieutenant John A. Sullivan (Army Air Corps) at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. They spent almost one year together, before he was redeployed to the World War II European front. On December 5, 1944, Major Sullivan, a squadron commander and fighter pilot of the Eighth Air Force in England was forced down over the North Sea on a return trip from a mission to Berlin, Germany. His body was never recovered. They had one daughter, Carol A. Sullivan.
    Caroline taught in Brussels, Wisconsin, Oshkosh, and then for many years at Appleton West and East High Schools while raising her daughter. At Appleton West, she was an advisor for the Clarion yearbook. Part way through her teaching career she earned her Master's degree at UW-Madison in business education. When Appleton East opened, she transferred there and established and managed a Cooperative Education program for business students until her retirement.
    Caroline loved nature. Her favorite place was her cottage in the woods in northern Wisconsin. She bought the land and designed the cottage, which has been a gathering place for family and friends for many years. After her retirement, Caroline enjoyed travel with her sister Mary Ann, her daughter Carol, and friends. For a time, she spent winters in Florida with her sister. She was a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Hospital and St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton and was a member of Catholic Daughters.
    Among her many accomplishments, Caroline was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, godmother, teacher, Girl Scout leader, and neighbor. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
    Caroline is survived by her daughter, Carol A. (Robert L. Smith) Sullivan; brother, Charles A. Kalista, Rolling Meadows, Illinois; brothers-in-law, Joseph L. (Edith) Sullivan, Cadott, Wisconsin and James (Judith) Sullivan, Madison; sisters-in-law, Betty Kalista, Fort Worth, Texas, Irene Sullivan, Cambridge, Wisconsin, and Ramona Sullivan, Waterloo, Wisconsin; many nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces and several great grand nephews and nieces and many dear friends.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Mary Ann Kalista, her brother Clifford J. Kalista, her sister-in-law Joan Kalista and several beloved nieces and nephews.
    The funeral liturgy for Caroline will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at ST MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State Street, Appleton, with Fr. David Funk, OFM CAP officiating. Family and friends may visit Thursday, July 5 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street and again on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of mass. A parish prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Inurnment will take place in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Kaukauna at a later date.     Mary Ann Kalista, age 90, died peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at St. Paul Home in Kaukauna. She was born on January 14, 1920, in Kaukauna; daughter of the late Charles J. and Mary C. (Shuber) Kalista. Mary Ann graduated from Kaukauna High School and the Oshkosh State Teachers College and taught as a middle grade teacher briefly in Lena, Antigo and Kimberly, and for many years, in Appleton. She also spent a year teaching the children of U.S. Armed Forces personnel in Orleans, France. In the middle of her career, she went back to college and received a Master of Library Science degree from George Peabody College, Nashville, TN. She then served as director of the IMCs (Instructional Media Centers) for several elementary schools in Appleton and later as Librarian and Instructional Materials Director at Huntley School, Appleton, until her retirement in 1984. After retiring, Mary Ann was instrumental in giving Appleton school children a glimpse of what it was like to attend school during the early days of our country. She dressed in colonial garb and taught children part-time in a log cabin, one-room school house for 13 years. Mary Ann was a 50 year member of Delta Kappa Gamma International (a professional honor society of women educators), serving them in many offices. She also belonged to Catholic Daughters and served as a Girl Scout Leader. Mary Ann was enthusiastic about life, loved children, and sharing knowledge. She also loved travel and explored many European and Middle Eastern countries during her spare time while teaching in France and after retirement.
    Mary Ann is survived by her sister, Caroline M. Sullivan, Kaukauna; brother, Charles A. Kalista, Rolling Meadows, IL; sister-in-law, Betty Kalista, Hurst, TX; nieces: Carol (Robert Smith) Sullivan, Appleton; Leslie (Bill) Gleason, Champaign, IL; Susan Doherty, Schaumberg, IL; and Grace Ryan and Jennifer Bargas, both of Ft. Worth, TX; nephews: Clifford J. (Phyllis) Kalista, Radnor, PA, and Jeff C. (Kay) Kalista, Bedford, TX. She is further survived by 11 great-nieces and -nephews and five great-great-nieces and -nephews, as well as by many beloved friends.
    She was pre-deceased by her parents, her brother Clifford Kalista, her sister-in-law Joan Kalista, her brother-in-law, Major John A. Sullivan and a niece Mary Bob Wellborn.
    A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ann will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at 11 a.m. at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Family and friends may visit Wednesday (TONIGHT) from 4-7 p.m. at Fargo Funeral Home, Kaukauna, and again on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass. Inurnment will take place in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Kaukauna. A memorial fund is being established in her name.

    After 11 months overseas duty, First Lieut. Clifford Kalista arrived July 3 at Stratton Island, New York, to begin a month leave with his family and parents. Kalista served with the 104th Infantry division in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. On October 25, Lieut. Kalista was wounded in action and after some time in Paris hospitals was transferred to England where he was hospitalized until the end of July. He wears the bronze star, awarded for heroic achievement in action, the combat infantry badge, Purple Heart and the ETO ribbon with three battle stars for campaigns in northern France, the Rhineland and central Europe. He was promoted to first Lieutenant in March.

    First Lieutenant Clifford Kalista was recently awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his gallantry in action in Germany while a member of K Company in April of 1945. Kalista is at present a pilot assigned to the Seventh Division.

    Charles (Chuck) Kalista, age 89, of Rolling Meadows, IL died peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence. He was born on March 22, 1928 in Kaukanna, WI to Charles J. and Mary C (Shuber) Kalista.
    Chuck graduated from Kaukauna High School and then enlisted in the Army. He served our country in active duty for 2 years. After Chuck retuned home, he graduated and received his degree from the University of Wisconsin. On January 17, 1950 he married Joan M. Ferrige and had 2 daughters Leslie and Susan. During the years Chuck continued his service to our country by enlisting in the Air Force Reserve. He remained in the Reserve several years and worked up to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the time of his retirement. In 1997 he lost his beloved wife, Joan to cancer but later found a special friendship with Pat Giovannini (Pat Survives). During his retirement years Chuck continued to serve by volunteering and providing veterans with valuable military benefit information.
    Chuck is survived by his 2 daughters Leslie A. (Bill) Gleason, Susan B. (Bill) Doherty, grandchildren, Christopher (Kristen) Snyder, Ryan (Mandy) Snyder, Kathryn Doherty, David Doherty, great grandchildren Noah, Eli, Bennett, sister-in-law: Dorothy (Gordon) VanHandel, nieces/nephews Clifford (Diane) VanHandel, Carol (Robert Smith) Sullivan, Grace Ryan, Jennifer Bargas and Jeff C. (Kay) Kalista. He is further survived by many great and great great nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his wife Joan Kalista, his parents Charles and Mary (nee Shuber) Kalista, a brother Clifford Kalista, his sisters Caroline (Major John) Sullivan, Mary Ann Kalista, son-in-law Robert D. Snyder, nephew Bradley Van Handel and Clifford Kalista Jr. and niece Mary Bob Wellborn. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 noon to time of services at 2:00 PM at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg, IL. Interment Saturday in Appleton Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be appreciated to the Alzheimer's Association, 8430 W.
