Obituary:
Betty (Verfurth) Niesen, age 94 of Kaukauna, died at her home on April 19, 2016. She was born in Kaukauna on February 7, 1922, daughter of the late Matt and Stella (Fischer) Verfurth. Betty graduated from the Kaukauna High School and also graduated from Bowlby's Business College in Appleton. On March 16, 1944, she married Robert Niesen; he preceded her in death in 1998. Betty was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church (St. Katharine Drexel) in Kaukauna.
She is survived by six children: Bob (Dianna) Niesen of Kiel; Bill (Donna) Niesen of Minocqua; Pat Niesen of Yuma, Arizona; Peggy Niesen of Yuma, Arizona; Joann Stephens of Appleton; and Sue (Dave) Popp of Neenah; thirteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister: Jane Voet of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother: Richard (Catherine) Verfurth of King; a brother-in-law: Wayne Malchow of Neenah, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, sons Donald and John, a sister Mary Malchow, a brother-in-law Robert Voet, and a granddaughter Anne Niesen.
The funeral liturgy for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH - ST. MARY'S CHURCH, 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
Betty enjoyed life, her friends, but the thing most dear to her was time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Obituary:
Richard "Dick" Verfurth, age 85, passed away at Wisconsin Veterans Home at King on Thursday, September 1, 2016. He was born on September 29, 1930 to the late Matthew and Stella (Fischer) Verfurth. He met his life-long companion, Catherine Janssen in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 where he served in the Korean Conflict.
Dick was a member of the VFW from 1957 to 2016 where he was a quarter master starting in 1959, and he held that position until 1994. Dick was the longest running quarter master and was appreciated by everyone because all the work was done by hand. He volunteered at St. Mary's Catholic Church doing various jobs. Dick and Catherine loved to travel the United States. He was an avid Packer fan.
Dick is survived by his life-long companion Catherine Janssen; his sister Jane Voet; brother-in-law Wayne Malchow; nieces: Peggy Niesen, Pat Niesen, Joanne Stephens, Sue (Dave) Popp, Gail (Jeff) Hilbert; nephews: Bob (Dianna) Niesen, Bill (Donna) Niesen, James Voet, and Steven Voet and wife; Catherine's children: Sue (Jesse) Zuniga, Jack (Kathy) Janssen, Darlene White, Ellen Vandenberg, and Larry Janssen; and Catherine's 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren who he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Betty (Robert) Niesen, sister Mary Malchow; brother-in-law Robert Voet; nephews Donald and John Niesen.
A Funeral Service for Dick will be held at 12:00 noon on September 6, 2016 at ST KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH AT ST MARY CHURCH, 119 W Seventh Street, Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established in Dick's name. Mary Malchow, 78, a wonderful, wife, mother, sister,grandmother and great-grandmother, was called home by our Heavenly Father due to cancer.
Mary was born Oct. 9, 1935, to the late Matt and Stella (Fischer) Verfurth. She graduated from Kaukauna High School Class of 1953 and worked in the office of Thilmany Pulp & Paper Co., until her marriage to Wayne Malchow in June of 1958. They moved to Milwaukee, where she was employed as a teacher's aide for the Milwaukee Public School system for 13 years and as a secretary for the city another 5 years. They also lived in Menomonee Falls for 7 years before moving to Neenah.
Mary loved shopping, going out to lunch with her daughter, sister and friends, spent time cooking, baking, working on crossword puzzles and shared her husband's hobby of the Packers and travel. One thing she was proud of was winning 2 national cooking contests. They traveled to every one of the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. Also traveled in parts of England, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. The highlight of the trip was a visit to the town of Malchow, which had been behind the Iron Curtain, where they had coffee with the mayor and the press.
She is survived by her husband and best friend, Wayne; her daughter, Gail and son-in-law, Jeff Hilbert, Hubertus, Wis.; her grandson, Gregory Starke and his wife,, Claire; great-grandchildren, Kali, Natalie, Andrew and Logan Starke. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Niesen, Kaukauna; another sister, Jane Voet, Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Richard Verfurth, Kaukauna; 2 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glen (Barbara) Malchow, Prescott, AZ.; and Jim (Karen) Miller, Appleton; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A private memorial service was held at 2 in the afternoon at home, Saturday, May 24, 2014. Mary was cremated.

John R. Niesen, age 60, of Appleton, passed away March 29, 2008, from cancer. He was born Jan. 31, 1948, to Robert and Betty (Verfurth) Niesen of Kaukauna. He was a graduate of Kaukauna High School and the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. John was the president of Badger State Painting for 14 years and was most recently employed at Omni Paint and Glass, Inc.
John is survived by his loving wife "Betts" Betty (Beecher) Niesen; his son Jeffrey, currently serving in Iraq; a daughter Jackie of Eau Claire; a step-daughter Sharon (Jamie) Dachel, Chippewa Falls; two step-grandchildren, Jacob and Megan Dachel; and his faithful pet, Zoey. He will be sadly missed by his mother Betty, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, numerous nieces and nephews, along with neighbors and friends. John's brothers and sisters include: Bob (Diana), Kiel; Bill (Donna), Minocqua; Patricia and Margaret Niesen, Yuma, AZ; Joann Stephens, Kaukauna; and Sue (Dave) Popp, Neenah.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Ann, his brother Donald; and his father Robert Niesen.
John enjoyed riding his motorcycle, telling jokes, and sharing the bounty of his garden and fruit trees. Always generous, John donated 14 units of whole blood and 333 platelet/ plasma donation units at the Appleton Community Blood Center.
A Memorial Gathering for friends and family will be held Saturday, April 5th at Highland Memorial Park (3131 N. Richmond Street, Appleton) from 11:30 a.m to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be given to Children's Hospital of Milwaukee.

Obituary:
Joann Mary Stephens, age 62, of Appleton, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Cherry Meadows after a battle with cancer. She was born April 24, 1955 in Kaukauna, the daughter of Robert and Betty (Verfurth) Niesen.
Joann was most recently employed as the Quality Manager at Surface Mounty Technology. Prior to her work there, she spent 20 years with the Plexus Corporation. A proud veteran, Joann also served in the US Air Force. Joann graduated from Kaukauna High School before obtaining a Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Joann enjoyed spending time with her family, her Red Hat Group and any activity with water. She could be found daily either in her pool and hot tub or attending water aerobics classes. Joann's favorite vacation spot was Maui and she enjoyed many trips there with friends.
She is survived by two sons Robert (Nicole May) Stephens, Jr. and John (Dana) Stephens, and three beautiful grandchildren: Sidney May and Mya and Brett Stephens. She is also survived by her siblings Bob (Diana) Niesen, Bill (Donna) Niesen, Patricia Niesen, Margaret Niesen and Sue (Dave) Popp as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a loving and devoted dog, Bella. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and neighbors.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John and Donald Niesen.
A memorial service and celebration of Joann's life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 14, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Saturday October 14, from 10 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
