    Obituary:
Orville Arnold Pohlman, 91, was called to his heavenly home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011. Orville was born on Sept. 25, 1920, in Black Creek, son of the late Louis and Emma (Bruch) Pohlman. His main employment was farming until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1942. After returning from duty in Occupied Japan, he met and married the love of his life, Lila Helen Schultz, on Nov. 1, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. They began their life together there and raised five children.
After 34 years with the Soo Line Railroad, Orville retired in 1980 and enjoyed spending time with his family at their cottage at Amberg, Wis. Some may remember the Reader's Digest nationwide search in 1950 looking for "Pinkie" Pohlman. All those who knew and loved him, will remember his kindness, his helpfulness, his kidding ways, his love of baseball and football, deer hunting, Pekinese dogs and that he was an awesome story teller.
Orville is lovingly survived by his wife of 64 years, Lila; their children, Phyllis (Dennis) Verhyen, Greenleaf; Donald (Cheryle) Pohlman, Plymouth; Carol (James) Steffens, Oak Creek; James (Sharon) Pohlman, Appleton; and Thomas Pohlman, Hartland; 11 loving grandchildren, Tina, Laura, Sara, Joseph, Christopher, Tiffani, Teaira, Tasha, Jessica, Wesley, and Carlee; 15 great-grandchildren, Alissa, Brittany, Katie, Ashwin, Kendra, Nicole, Matthew, Cole, Emily, Aviah, Kaleb, Brooke, Carter and Braden; a sister, Mary Abendroth, Appleton. Orville will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
Orville was preceded in death by three brothers, Vernon, Le Roy and Lloyd Pohlman; two sisters, Arry VanLieshout and Amy Pohlman.
Funeral service for Orville will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 209 S. Allen Street, Appleton, with the Rev. Kurt Kovanen officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church until the hour of service. Full military honors will follow the service at the church. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum, Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Orville's name.
Orville's family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Fox River Assisted Living for their special loving care of his last days.

Sara was born on July 7, 1970 at the Kaukauna Hospital to Dennis and Phyllis (Polhman) Verhyen and she grew up in Appleton. She worked at Theda Care Medical Center in Appleton. On June 20, 1992 she was united in marriage to Jim Wallace, her only love, and together they raised two wonderful children. As a Mother she never missed an event of her children, nieces, and nephews. Those times will always be remembered. Sara had a heart of gold and always put everyone's needs before her own. She delighted in the simple things in life. Sara was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she taught religious education for 13 years, joined this year by her daughter Nicole as her co-teacher. She planted the seed of God's word and hoped it would grow in everyone she met. Sara's positive attitude and wonderful outlook will be greatly missed.
