    Vivian F. Thiry, 90, Green Bay passed away on Friday, December 19, 2008. Vivian was born on May 3, 1918 in Kaukauna the daughter of the late Peter and Frances Gerend. She was a long time employee in the Accounting Department with the Green Bay Board of Education until her retirement.
    Vivian is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Judi and Gary Knuth, two grandsons Nick (Mi Suk) Knuth, Rick (Trista) Knuth, 6 great-grandchildren Mya Lyn and Cody Knuth, Griffin and Zack Knuth, Kristy and Kayla Krenke, two special nieces Merna Solper and Pat Van Essen.
    Gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008 from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Allouez Chapel Mausoleum 2121 Riverside Drive. Funeral Service 4:00 P.M. in the chapel with Father Dan Anholzer officiating. Entombment in the Mausoleum.

    Sister Rose Gerend, age 101, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.
    Sister Rose was born March 27, 1905 in Kaukauna, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lorrig) Gerend. She entered the convent in 1920 and professed her vows in 1923. Sister Rose served as a primary grade teacher at St. Joseph, Rice Lake, Guardian Angel Boarding School, Oneida, St. Joseph, Waukesha, St. Anthony, Neopit, St. Andrew, Potosi, St. Anthony, Oconto Falls, St. Mary, Brillion, St. Joseph and St. Philip, Green Bay, St. Therese, Appleton, Immaculate Conception, DePere; San Roque, Santa Barbara, Calif.; St. Mary, Delaware, Ohio; St. Theresa, Kekaha, Cathedral Honolulu, Hawaii; and St. Peter, Bapchule, Ariz. She also served as the Administrator of St. Joseph Home, West Point, Neb., and homemaker at Maria Reina, Lima, Peru. Sister Rose retired to St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc, in 1994 and had been residing in St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse since 1998. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.
    Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a brother and sister-in-law: Herbert and Katherine Gerend, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive
    Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O. Praem with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
    The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Convent Chapel.
    The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

    Mauel, Jeanette M., Little Chute, age 90, died Monday, November 22, 2004 at a local nursing home. Jeanette was born in Appleton on Christmas Day of 1913, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lorig) Gerend. On May 10, 1937, she married Ambrose Mauel at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna; he preceded her in death on October 27, 1990. Jeanette was a longtime and faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna where she served on the Altar Society and also helped with funeral meals for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, and traveling, and will be remembered by many as an avid, intelligent, and knowledgeable football fan.
    Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Mary (Bob) Handel of Kimberly; two grandchildren: Dave (Roxanne) Handel of Greenville and their children Janel Zimmerman and Collin Handel; and Lisa (Jon) Piette of Combined Locks and their children Kyra and Matt Piette; a sister: Sr. Rose Gerend of Manitowoc; a brother: Herbert (Katie) Gerend of Manitowoc; and a sister-in-law: Cordell Mauel of Appleton.
    Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ambrose in 1990, brothers Norbert (Gert) Gerend, Joseph (Herta) Gerend, and Elroy Gerend; and sisters Olive (Jim) Blackburn, Adelaide (Walter) Doty, and Frances Gerend.
    The funeral liturgy for Jeanette will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Robert Udulutsch, OFM, Cap. officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Combined Locks. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
    The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Parkside Care Center for the wonderful care they showed Jeanette during her stay. Thanks also to Elaine Laux, Jeanette's roommate and companion. Your friendship was treasured more than you know.
