    Van Ess, DonaldDonald J. Van Ess, 87, entered into Eternal Life peacefully, Wednesday, De c. 31, 2003, at home. Don was born April 10, 1916 to the late Joseph and M ary (Vanden Boomen) Van Ess. On June 15, 1940, he married Regina T. Piesch ek at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church. Don farmed for over 30 years in t he Town of Humboldt. Don was active in local government over the years, se rving on the County War Rationing Board during World War II, and also serv ed as Soil Conservation Field Representative. He also held the positi on of Supervisor in the Town of Humboldt. After moving from the farm, he o wned and operated a black ground trucking business for 20 years, serving m any homeowners and greenhouses in the area, until his retirement at age 7 0. Don enjoyed polka music and was a self-taught concertina player. He enj oyed fishing, gardening and playing cards. He truly loved time spent wi th his family, especially family gatherings at his cottage in Door Count y, which is still in the family today. He always had time to talk and w as a wonderful conversationalist. He will be greatly missed and forever tr easured.He is survived by his children and their spouses: Wayne and Elaine Van Es s, Nancy and Clete Cisler, Mike and Sue Van Ess, Rita and Aaron Daubner; g randchildren: Pam and Greg Filler, Amy and Shane Gutzman, Jennifer and Pe te Hoge, Nicole Cisler and special friend, John, Chad and Danielle Van Es s, Sean Van Ess and special friend Kristi, Tom and Jessica Daubner, Andy D aubner and Katie Daubner; great-grandchildren: Gillian and Georgia Fille r, Taylor and Tanner Gutzman, Evelyn and Eleanor Hoge, Bailey LaViolett e, Allison and Kristen Daubner. He is further survived by a sister: Maril yn Coppin; and sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Van Ess, Helen Cherney, Emma Gezel la, Margie Winnekins, Clara Winnekins, and Regina Pieschek; many nephews a nd nieces.He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence, Elmer, George, Dewe y, and sister, Caroline.Family and friends are invited to celebrate Don’s life on Sunday, Ja n. 4, 2004, at Proko-Wall Funeral Home & Crematory, 1630 E. Mason St. fr om 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Parish Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will c ontinue Monday after 9 a.m. at Proko-Wall Funeral Home & Crematory until t he cortege departs for church. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at H oly Martyrs of Gorcum. Burial in the church cemetery.“Dad was the true patriarch of our family. We will forever treasure the wo nderful memories we have and continue the family traditions he inspire d. We will miss you, Dad, but we know you are happy — at Home and with Mo m, again!”
